let's stop cluttering up the just announced thread...

Might I suggest we plan something for January, sort of a Holiday Hangover Party.  With holiday parties, people going out of town, its impossible to get a date people agree upon for December... Besides Jan is dead show wise.

Are forum parties anything like the board discourse?

dr doom - based on hearsay, they're even worse.

despite that, i'd be interested in meeting folks.  backbar on a quiet (dark) night, or maybe early'ish on a good weekend show night (pre-party!) would be my suggestions.

Yes, that would be better, because it would be nonsmoking!

jan 6 is also christmas eve for orthodox christians (if i was back home i'd be having a big feast that night).  because it's right after the holidaze, it would be the most appropriate weekend for the hangover theme.  and if we do it in the backbar, it would be the same night as the Soldiers of Jah Army upstairs    :)

 any objections to jan 6?

Thumbs up on the date.  Walther-productions.com presents SOLDIERS OF JAH ARMY

January is good if anyone is counting. Saturday preferred...I guess it'd have to be on a night w/ no Blowoff.

I think this would work as a great pre-party for the Incubus show.

Blowoff is just upstairs now unless things have reverted.

i was thinking that the backbar would be the right place to have this gathering - can bands even play down there?  i'd like to meet folks and chat, having bands play would make this difficult.
Title: Re: Forum Party
Post by: Sir HC on December 04, 2006, 05:05:00 pm
When Blowoff would do the 2 man band thing they played down there.  It would be a pain, I guess we could wire something up, bring down a cheesy board and get it happening.

I guess I would be the gimp for such a thing...

i just wanna meet and greet sir surly.  he's one of my favorites.  and betty, too.  and of cource mister bearman, for that name alone. grrr baby, grrr. i've met nkotb, and he was down to earth and cool, so i'm sure a forum gathering would be quite the event.

Be a great way to start off the new year, 9:30 forum party in January although i dunno doing this before the Incubus would be a good idea, i can't imagine the rush for that. And maybe instead of a band playing being we'll all have laryngitis after that, maybe someone should just burn like the top 100 singles from the forum, i mean there's already a list for that being generated so that would be a great way to icebreak people who don't visit the forum as much

Although I've met a few forumites, I've never done an official Forum meet.  Does Seth show up to bless the occasion?    Does Surly Bonds show up with a flipchart full of disturbing images and links?

so, before we forget: is everything a go for a Saturday January 6th forum party?  do we need to clear anything with seth, or anyone else?  have we picked a location - is it backbar, or another place?  who will bring the incubus + fall out boy mix CD?  will the birchmere be providing catering?!?

just wanted to clear this up before we all take off for the holidaze.

backbar it is.

consensus appears to be forming around a later start time for the soiree.  i suggest setting a start time around 8'ish, there should still be a few straglers (read: alcoholics, read: me) for the puck-heads once the caps finish losing.

food: lemme look into that.  while i won't guarantee birchmere catering (unless someone wants to help me foot the bill), i'm happy to arrange some type of nourishment to go along with our tasty beverages.  PM me if you wanna join in on the food providing fun.

FYI... Still no official confirmation on whether or not we can use the BackBar that night...  So tis time to put on the thinking caps for alternate venues, just in case.  An place with a DJ rig that could be used would be a plus.

I'm busy on the 6th and cannot make it, though honestly I'm not particularly interested in attending regardless, so take that with a grain of salt. I'd be more interested in attending if it were on January 13th instead, because then I could also check out the Blowoff featuring the DJ sounds of Bob Mould & Richard Morel at the 9:30.
