Title: scanner help
Post by: thatguy on July 24, 2008, 02:14:00 pm
my dad is in a clean up/sort out kick, and the family spent about 8 hours yesterday going through boxes of papers, pictures, and slides.  lots of slides.  dad wants to scan the slides and store them digitally.  i suggested that we do the same with the pictures and some documents.

are there combination scanners that can do flatbed scanning and slides/negatives, or do i need to look at two different machines?  does anyone have any relevant experience?

It's a whole lot of work.  If somebody has the time and the patience, then you should look at Veho slide scanners with the autoloader - but it still takes forever.

We rented a NIKON pro-scanner for about $75 for a weekend, and used it for three straight days.  Didn't get even half of the family collection done.

Instead, we took a collection from family members, shipped the negatives off to India (http://www.scancafe.com) and paid $.25-$.30 per slide/photo/negative.  We sent a DVD to each family member that chipped in.  Highly recommended.
