How the hell are they that expensive?????????? 97 bucks floor seats????? I think I'll try to get tickets but geez louise.

well, 03 tour tickets were $35, 05 was $80, so if they only went up by $17 on this tour, it's probably not a bad price in comparison.
coldplay @ nearly $100 makes me really feel like $50 for james brown @ 930 was an absolutely amazing deal.

Could anyone give me the Best Buy presale password? You'd help me give a gift to my girlfriend.

Cheapskate!
-
Yeah, someone post the password, haha. I want to jump in on the presale.
-
do a little internet research and you can usually find the presale words.
-
I think for this presale its not a password but an acutal membership number
-
The presale is for a free Best Buy program. Oh what a cheapskate I am for wanting to give my information to one less soulless corporation.
-
is it really cool to like coldplay these days??
-
anyone know if they lifted any kraftwerk for this new album?
-
Everyone likes coldplay, you know how I know if your gay, you listen to coldplay.
-
ergo, everyone is gay?
-
i am not an everyone...
-
I've heard it said that nobody pays for cd's anymore. If that is the case, Mr. Martin needs some way to keep Gwynneth in the Prada while she's busy raising Apples. Hence, higher priced concert tix.

So I joined the Best Buy membership reward thing so I don't know what the hell password they will ask for on the ticketmaster pre sale.
-
So I missed out on the password. Looks like all the mother fucking scumbag dick eating scalpers got them. As you can see if you go to Ebay. Some are going for 200 bucks. For a freaking password?? Really????
-
wm17: you had to be a member of the BB rewards club as of a certain date (april 1st?). if you joined recently - like, say this week - you didn't qualify for a password. i'm in the same boat. oh well.
if anyone has been a member of the best buy rewards zone program for more than a month, and can help me with getting a password, i'd really appreciate it - please PM me. it will take about 30 seconds of your time. thanks!
-
Didn't you learn your lesson from Radiohead? Don't sweat it. Good tickets will be readily available closer to the show.
-
sorry sweetcell that i can't help and i figured that was the case regarding the pw... i just was never arsed about activating my account when they first gave me one of those silly cards...
-
yeah, i know, just being impatient :)
not too worried, but if given a choice i'd rather lock things up earlier rather than later. also, this show will most probably be over-scalped, so that'll be another source of last-minute tickets. i'm just not very good at the whole "delayed gratification" thing.
-
But its the MCI center. You can never get good seats to that place haha. Well that is my case for the matter.

Well that's good to know. Now I'll have to see what I can pull Sat. Seems to be always seats in the 400's but we'll see.
-
Pulled 111 G on Best Buy presale... wouldn't mind 112/121 - but the seat numbers are near 112, so it'll keep my girlfriend pretty happy
-
Pretty good seats great, people will be screwed for Sat thats for sure. ie me
-
pulled 101 row F. Not bad, not great.
-
sorry cant help anyone out. i need mine for later show dates :D

I don't particularly feel that's true. I looked over and over for a while before I snagged these. Aside from some back-floor seats, these were pretty much the best ones available, at least as far as I saw. I tell you what though... I've been very resourceful with shows at Verizon/MCI. These would actually be the worst seats I've personally sat in at this venue. Feel free to PM me. If I upgrade these, I'm glad to give them to a board member for the face value (fees, etc. included).
There may well be plenty of decent seats available on Saturday though - there's no telling.
-
Yeah, we'll see how it goes. I know everytime I buy tickets right on the dot at 10am for verizon shows I get crap seats. However I did get some halfway decent seats for Pearl Jam this time but still they are like in 106 Row Q or something like that. I'll see how it goes saturday. Also buying thru livenation you sometimes get better seats then ticketmaster.
-
So what did everyone get???? I got 121 Row D so I jumped on that as the first hit. Just for shits and giggles I went back to see what else I could pull. Next one was a floor seat section 4 Row J. I was tempted to buy it said oh well. Then I tried again and pulled a 121 Row A which is a few rows better then what I orginally pulled. I wish those seats came up first, fuckers. Oh yeah 120 bucks?????? Geez louise. Now I'm wondering if I should have got that floor seat.
-
<indie music snob comment regarding coldplay deleted>
-
What did it say???????
-
anyone want to take a shot at guessing what my hypothetical snide remark regarding coldplay was?
-
ohhh you said it, never mind

Truth.
-
It don't matter I already got a good seat
-
FYI, just saw this announcement for the philly show: (http://ev15.evenue.net/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/SEGetEventInfo?ticketCode=GS:WACH:WA2007:CP:&linkID=global-wachovia)
The Coldplay concert has been rescheduled for July 25, 2008 at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia. Tickets for the original date of June 29, 2008 will be honored at the rescheduled show.
i wonder if this means they'll change the DC date too...

is this thread serious?

of course not, it's ironic. everything here is.

It's serious.

no, there are only good posters.

Riddle me this: Why do people hate Coldplay so much?
-
Yeah why?????
-
I REFUSE to call it the "verizon" center. It is and will always be MCI.
As for the whole coldplay issue. Absolutely love the band. As for the price, effing hate it. Thus, I am not going, nor did I try to go.

apparently is has something to do with fact that listening to coldplay can turn you gay or something...
seriously tho, other than the generic "coldplay sucks", reasons i've come across include:
- they write sappy love songs. based on their selection of singles, one couldn't be blamed for thinking that. they aren't an edgy boundary-pushing band, which is a prerequisite for some. while i like coldplay, i gotta admit they're kinda middle-of-the-road wishy-washy. they're very safe. from their wiki page: "Coldplay describes their musical style as 'very heavy soft rock'".
- they've gone mainstream. a number of people have told me "i liked parachutes when i first discovered it, but have hated them since they became big". they write accessible songs, always have.
- they're wannabe-radiohead. i've never understood this one. chris martin has stated he wants his band to be as good as radiohead, not be radiohead. i'm quite familiar with both band's catalogs, and i don't know of any coldplay song that sounds like radiohead could have written it. if anyone has an example please share, i'm genuinely curious.
- none of the band members are sufficiently buff. only two boardees have made this complaint to date, but maybe it's a widespread one.
btw, the new album leaked on friday. at least one other boardee here thinks it's great, i think it's good but i'm still warming up to it. only had one listen, while doing dishes last night.
-
For starters - without going back and listening to the coldplay catalog - I think Yellow sounds like a reconfigured The Bends watered down for mass consumption. More generally, Parachutes - which I liked a lot - felt like it was channeling sentiments expressed by radiohead but in an easier to digest format.
I liked their second album too and remember thinking I heard elements from Kid A or Amniasiac reconfigured to be easier and accessible (mayber clocks is an example? i don't remember) - and anyway that wasn't a bad idea or career path.
I enjoyed their 2002 show at 9:30 and at this point they were a nice band with nice songs and essentially harmless.
Not sure how or why exactly X&Y struck me so wrong. It was an album whose sentiment and emotions just rang so false to me, and the band just seemed so tedious at this point - trying desperately hard to convey an earnestness that didn't feel earnest on any level. The songs just felt - useless. They became a chain store at the mall . . . selling predictable earnestness.
When I heard they were working with Brian Eno I thought the possibilities were interesting. Haven't heard the album but Violtet Hill sounds boring to me and i don't care if i never hear it again.

Radiohead? They're wannabe-U2. They are writing songs designed to be played in stadiums. "Viva la Vida" could be on the new U2 album, complete with huge chorus and religious lyrical imagery. When we saw them at the HFStival in Baltimore that year everyone in our group noticed how Chris Martin was trying his hardest to be the new Bono.
For the record, I have no problem with this. I admit to being a huge U2 fan so I don't mind big stadium rock once in a while. The jury is still out on the new record as I've only listened once and it takes me multiple times to decide if I like anything.

ah, that's a little closer, but still not on target for me unless one believes that U2 have a strangle-hold on stadium rock. martin's voice is way smoother than bono's, coldplay has too much piano and not enough guitars to be U2, etc etc... but yeah, i can see that comparison.
i believe that the full quote from mr martin is that he wants his band to be as big as U2 and as good as radiohead. no wonder he's so unliked :D

That sounds like if Patrick Dempsey said he wanted to be as big as Tom Cruise and as good as Brad Pitt.
Coldplay doesn't really sound anything like U2.

I like Coldplay. And I'm not gay.
I'm merely gayish. And proud of it.

Not according to the hair stylist at Smackette's party in The OC this weekend. He had on a white belt, and was certainly a disco-dancin', Oscar Wilde-readin', Streisand ticket-holdin' friend of Dorothy.
He's even going to go out and get a seersucker blazer to go with his white belt because he liked how much mine looked together. I wish I was making this stuff up.

Your wife hires a hairstylist for parties she throws? You California peeples really are odd.

He's as giddy as Smackie about the new album. He was trying desperately to win the KROQ (http://www.kroq.com/) contest and have them over at his house. Unfortunately, some girl from West Hills won this morning.

just curious - but does anyone know if any of the shows had pit tickets, or if its an all seated show? my friend won tickets to the show at MSG (the whole show is free) so no clue where we'll end up, but im also getting tix to see them in NJ. It was pretty cool to have pit tix at Nissan.
-
your friend won msg tix? congrats!
according to seating maps, none of the shows have GA pits (can't confirm that for MSG, tho). all seated.

yeah a bunch of friends and i were trying to win msg tix. not worried so much about pit tix for this show, was wondering if thered be pit tix for IZOD center (but sounds like thats a no). surprisingly enough - i can still (or a few days ago anyway) get great seats to the hartford, ct show. its getting too expensive to try and see more than one show tho.
cant wait for the MSG show! ill also see them (hopefully) for free at the today show. granted it probably means camping out on my birthday, but its chris martin and ill be with some friends.

Great, the reschduled date is for Aug 3 which I won't even be around because I'll be at Lollapalooza. Couldn't have done it a week later or so.

folks have the option of using their ticket(s) for the rescheduled show, or getting a refund from original point of purchase (but if you did well during onsale, why not offer it to someone else here instead of throwing it back?)
and in other news:
BC TO BROADCAST BRIXTON SHOW LIVE
As you know, Coldplay are playing a free show at London's Brixton Academy on Monday (June 16th). For those of you who didn't win tickets (or live on the other side of the world) we thought you'd like to know that the show will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 1. The gig will air at 8.30pm UK time as part of a three hour special which will also feature the band talking about the album. If you don't live in the UK, you can listen live online here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1)
-
those with Sirius radio, can hear the show at 8:30pm (US - EST) since they time delay the broadcasts 5 hours
