Santa Clause symbolizes wealth (how the hell does he pay for all those supplies and elven labor?), happiness (the man's jolly, no?), and generosity (imagine charitable donation deductions on his IRS return). We want to take part in that symbolism. How? Hmmm...

Well if you had watched Santa Claus is Coming to Town the other night like I did, you would know that he does not come from money. He was, in fact, an orphan taken in by a family of modest toy makers, the Kringles.

Bullshit, he was invented by Coca-cola. (http://www.icubed.com/~colagrrl/xmas.htm)

I had no idea. My knowledge of Santa Claus comes largely from the old newspaper framed at my barber's, wherein Mr. Claus came to my hometown in the 1930s(?) via airplane, which crash-landed, but Santa was OK because he was full of "Christmas cheer."

Santa was a ginger up in that episode.

Because they are middle class WASPs. Middle class WASPs have an amazingly rich history of this kinda stuff. Look for women wearing white turtlenecks with little wreaths & shit embroidered on the collars, underneath their Xmas -themed sweatshirts. At work they are usually found in a garishly garland -bedecked cubicle repeating things like, "corporate accounts receivable, just a moment...".

Why do people other than Santa Claus give presents?
It's Christmas, for crying out loud.

Because they like baseball? Why do people wear anything with a sports team's logo on it, when they're not a member of that team? Why do people wear jerseys with players' names on them, when they're not that player?
It's a frickin' style of hat, one that's become extremely popular. Does everything stay within its place of origin? You may as well ask why anyone wears any kind of hats at all. They might just want to keep the sun out of their eyes, especially while playing golf. Perhaps they want to retain some of the large amount of heat lost through your head on chilly and/or windy days. Maybe they don't like the haircut they just got. I wore one as part of my uniform in the Navy, for goodness sake. Or maybe they just feel like wearing the damn thing. I really don't understand why that should bother anyone.

because santa hats make jews sad because their hats aren't as cool. and if we know anything its that the world and santa hate jews.
