I was searching for "foo.html" to settle some occupational curiosity, and I came across the following article.
P.S. Before anyone shits their pants, I'm posting this TONGUE IN CHEEK.
"Some rock stars want to free Tibet. Others want to save Mumia. The Foo Fighters, on the other hand, want their fans to ignore accepted medical wisdom about AIDS.
The multimillion-album-selling alternative rock outfit has thrown its weight behind Alive and Well, an "alternative AIDS information group" that denies any link between HIV and AIDS."

most interesting item i've heard about in awhile.
nice post.
waiting for this to be the biggest conspiracy debacle since the last few episodes of lost season three, and 9/11.

wow, how strange...
-
I'm pretty sure only Nate is involved with this. They let them use a song a really long time ago.

Yeah, the article is from 2000. I was just in disbelief reading it. Strange thing to randomly find.

Actually, I remember seeing a TV special about the woman who founded that movement, and benefit concert with the Foos was part of the special. Grohl introduced the woman to the audience and asked them to listen to what she had to say. And I admit that seeing that has influenced the way I feel about the band to this day...

Great. Now they have something in common with porn stars having unprotected sex and are in denial about HIV and AIDS.

A very eloquent point from Mr. Marshmallow.

"Your risk of being hit by lightning is greater than that of contracting HIV through a one-time random sexual contact with someone you don't know here in
America," says Maggiore, an HIV-positive Southern California resident with no formal training in medicine or the sciences. "And if (a young person) were
to get a positive diagnosis, that does not mean they've been infected with HIV." The HIV-AIDS connection, maintains Maggiore, has been promoted by greedy
drug companies.
I wonder if she's still alive.

i dont understand what's tounge in cheek about your post ... this completely changes the way i look at the foo fighters, much like when i found out that jason lee is a scientologist
unbelievably reckless and retarded move on their part

Well, as I didn't know much about this story when I posted it (like I said, I found it completely by accident and had never heard of this before), I didn't want people to think I was spreading anti-Foo propaganda.
To be honest, I wasn't even sure how reliable it was when I posted it. Looks like it is valid, so I've removed my tongue from said cheek.

Weird timing. I just read an article on this very topic yesterday. I never knew this was even an issue.

i'd say jim morrison was a tad more reckless.

This article is messed up. However, just because the one weird member of the Foo Fighters endorses such a group doesn't mean that the whole band does. I have a feeling Dave would disagree with his bandmate about that.
Nate is a weird guy. And while I appreciate the article mother jones wrote, to just go and say that the whole band supports it without quotes from the other members is a bit much.
