Title: Password for The Killers/Keane @ Merriweather?
Post by: jdeweesus on April 20, 2005, 01:44:00 pm
I'm new to the area & just signed up for the 9:30 club list serve.  Does anyone have the password for Friday's presale?  I would really, really, really appreciate it!   :D

I'll be the voice of good will on this one...from the 9:30 main page:

Here is the mail list page.
It is a good mailing list page.
 The best one ever.

 Join the mailing list:

To join, just send email to: list_serve@930.com

We send weekly updates of the concert calendar and the rare special announcement.

 That's it.
We hate spam more than you.

Other than that (to quote Bob Mould) I can't help you anymore.

I did sign up for the list-serv but I figured that since it's 2 days before the presale, the email with the password was already sent.  Is it really "SWORDFISH" or am I getting taken for a ride?

Since the Killers are the headliners one can guess that the password will be Killers-related.  Potential choices include:

 brightside
 hotfuss
 poseurs
 wesoundedbetterwhenwewereknownasthestrokes

i haven't gotten a password via the 9:30 email list yet... there is one out there but i don't know its source... the posting of presale passwords is something we don't make a habit of here.

Saw the Killers last year open for Morrissey. The most memorable part was when one of their stage monitors caught on fire. Other than that, I thought they were B-O-R-I-N-G.

Honestly, before I saw Keane & The Killers in concert at the HFS Nutcracker, I wasn't that big of a fan.  (I only went to the Nutcracker to see Velvet Revolver.)  I like Keane much better than The Killers.

You elitist pricks. I was tired of seeing all of you unnecessarily pretentious twats mock and scoff at an individual who simply wanted to purchase tickets to a show. I'm so glad the blogosphere (e.g. DCist and DCeiver) has broken this effort to keep information regarding 9:30 club sale dates tightly guarded. The password for this show has already been blogged by numerous sites; it's available to anyone who wants it. So why resist and deliberately try to make someone's life harder by refusing to give up the info? Isn't this forum's intent to create a community of fans? By keeping this type of information to yourself and a few minimum wage garnering pseudo-hipsters, you're just being divisive and self-interested. Try exhibiting some simple human decency in the future.

Thanks, nomad, for sticking up for me.  I find it actually amusing that everyone who was so against putting the password out there actually hates all the bands that are playing at said concert anyway.

I'm sorry if this ruined your day   :(

whats so tightly guarded about an email annoucement list anyone can sign up for?  or signing up for the volume newsletter which can also be picked up at the club or other places.

as most of the regulars will tell you i have no problem providing presale passwords via pm to those who ask nicely...

it rubs us regulars the wrong way everytime someone comes asking for a presale password particularily one sent out by the club... do all the name calling you want but thats how at least i feel.

the quiet presale is a new wrinkle that people are coming to terms with.

presale and associated passwords are bs anyway...

The password was in the 9:30 e-mail which came last night, which was several hours after the person asked for it.  In other words, I don't think most people knew what the password was at the time it was requested.

Secondly, you are right - it is available to all.  The person signed up for the e-mail, received the e-mail, and received the password.

I'm not sure why this gets you so frothy at the mouth.

i don't work for the club and thus have little inside info so i get my info like the rest of the people on this board...  where the password that was so widely being posted came from i have no idea and would not consider it official without the source. which could have been a bands email whatever...

 seriously take a chill pill...

kids have no morals these days. You create a forum and mailing list, and to that, you create perks of being on that mailing list.  But when the perks of being on the mailing list are circumvented by loser kids like you, it renders them almost useless.

some people spend a good deal of time and effort to find mailing lists and forums and such to get thier information from and be "in the know" so to speak, and we dont like some killers kid doing lame things like posting passwords (not that we care about this one, but do that shit for the Pixies show and you might pay for it with your life!!)

so go ahead, post the information, and when the presale sells out in 3 seconds and you have to watch the Killers re-run of SNL 4 more times this summer....blame only yourself.... (not like that lame show will come anywhere near selling out, but other shows do just that)

i don't know, i could see it selling out.
i happened to be in columbus when they played columbus last year and it was sold out.. and unfortunately i unknowingly used the same parking deck that most of the people going ot that show used.

We go through this all the time....everytime there's a big show promoted by IMP with a pre-sale people sign up here and ask this same question.

The great part is that when those same new members don't get tix they come back and bitch moan and cry about how they didn't get tix, the site didn't work, presale last 2 minutes and on and on and on.  (remember the guy a few weeks ago who said he was gonna alert the press to the unfairness of the audioslave (or whatever worthless band it was) presale?)

Ironic don't you think?  Maybe the reason they couldn't get through is because the password was all over the freakin net?  I don't post passwords just out of principle...my own worthless gesture to try to make pre-sale work the way it's supposed to (even though they don't).

This scenario repeats itself over and over and over again.  We laugh and then people like you leave never to return...at least usually.  And if you stick around, well that's great too.  Believe me, if you do, you'll joining in in this discussion from our side of the fence soon enough.

This is hardly a issue of morality. The fact that the password is already available renders your point about the password being posted here causing a greater demand for presale completely mute. My main concern was the way a simple request for information that had already been distributed was responded to by the members of this forum. Your douchebag commentary on the artist and the "ethics" of giving out the password was unnecessary; why not just facilitate another fan's effort to go to a show? You may now return to reading Pitchforkmedia.com and watching MTV2.

I resent that.  My point is not mute.  It speaks very well...in 3 languages in fact.

And your "he did it first so it's ok" take distruting the password beyond its intended recipients is lame you douchebag.

i hardly if ever read pitchfork.... and regardless of when and where the password was posted as far as i'm concerned it wasn't an official presale password becuase i didn't know it's origin.  and if you will notice the club wasn't providing it either via the FAQ.

 i only watch vh-1 classic

This is one of the first times I've ever engaged in this time-consuming forum trolling bs, and I certainly don't want spam mail clogging up my inbox. I'm a fan who doesn't want to have to spend all that time searching for this info, and I'm not any less of fan for doing so. I'm all for the democratization of this type of info; it isn't right that some are getting an unfair advantage in these presales.

God, this discussion has gotten awfully violent.  Aren't we all fans of music?  Why are we calling names and insulting each other?  All I did was ask for a friggin' password.  I asked politely & offered to have it PM-ed to me.  Someone was actually nice enough to send it to me via email, right after I got the email from the 9:30 club with the presale announcement.

 And, I'm not a kid - I'm 27 years old, dammit!

I must say, you guys really roll out the red carpet for new members, don't you?  It is pathetic to see how you get off on tearing someone else down.  And you're calling HIM a kid.  Grow up.

Your douchebag commentary on the artist and the "ethics" of giving out the password was unnecessary; why not just facilitate another fan's effort to go to a show? You may now return to reading Pitchforkmedia.com and watching MTV2.
I think you're the elitist prick, assuming we all read Pitchform and watch MTV2 (new or old MTV2?) -- I would absolutely PM jdeweesus the password (I got to the forum too late to be of help).  But posting it is different, even if it has shown up on a few blogs.  Oh, that's right, it's out so you may as well fly planes over head with it....exact same difference.

Who the hell do you think wants to spam you?  The 9:30 Club email comes out once a week, that's it, 'nuff said.

The one good thing about this little exchange is I assume you will soon leave and not come back to converse with all us elitist prick losers.

Jedeweesus (I cannot remember that username...), stick around.  This kind of thread is annoying, but they're not all annoying.  Though you will read a lot about the evils of cars, the joys of bikeriding, international footie scores and, maybe someday, lots and lots about britpop.

being called elist pricks for not "democratizing" information is going to get any red carpet rolled up really fast... if you don't like the way information is distributed then take your lumps...  <getting blue in face> i've passed along passwords via pm, and didn't see this password from an official source  until after it was posted.

You have to admit, you and he, both new to the forum, came on here with different intents and temperaments.

Alas, this is just one more thread in an ongoing debate that engenders some heat...really, it's not all unwelcoming...(I'm sorry, but nomad came off looking ready to stir up trouble -- I don't know why folks want to post to a forum they think is bogus....)

For instance, I'll bet you got PM'd the password by a few folks...no?

Whatever, dude.  If I intended to keep my identity secret, I wouldn't use a username with my frigging last name in it.  Get over yourself.

Oh, I do not agree with the way nomad went about it.  Honestly, had I known that this reaction would have happened, I never would have posted the question in the first place.

And yes, someone did send me the password by PM.  I mentioned that earlier.

what i find so amusing is how a simple half assed comment posted elsewhere, has turned into to this huge "controversy" and is  still reverberating, complete with continued name calling.

The killers are offering their fans a pre- sale ticketing system via the killers ticket page. This system is reserved for the killers online community and not the general public. To take advantage of this special offer, PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO REGISTER BELOW. Once you have registered, you will be e-mailed a username and password to access the killers pre-sale tickets.

This special offer is FREE. With the pre-sale ticket system, we are just taking new measures to make it more special for the killers' fans.

A true fan knows when tickets for a show go on sale. If you don't know then you are dumb. I got Row D seats. Stop complaining and use your brain. All bands will help thier fans get tickets in any way they can. Its real simple, bands have web-sites check them out from time to time, it might be worth it.

For anybody still interested in the presale today, the password is indeed "lasvegas".  Thanks to those who posted this information, and no thanks to the people who were dicks about it.  Looks like all that's left at this point is lawn seating, so it might make sense to wait until the rest of the tickets are released tomorrow via the regular sale on ticketmaster if you want better seats, assuming they weren't all released today, which I think is a safe assumption.

Also, it looks like there are only single tickets left through The Killers website.

do you see any correlation between you blabbering the password and there only being lawn seats left?

secondly i'm not about to post any password found on another blog, forum, etc without knowing the origin.  just because it's on posted elsewhere doesn't mean it correct.  if said password was incorrect and people were relying on it, it just causes more fustration when the presale sells out and they can't get tickets because of bogus info.

i have zero sympathy for any fan of band who routinely uses presales like Wilco and Interpol and isn't willing to take time to sign up for the appropriate mailing list, be it venue or band related.  if you don't want to be spammed, then use a seperate gmail account for such lists.  it's why al gore invented them.

and if its such a huge concern about how information is sent out. then directly contact the bands management, the promoter, etc to voice that concern.  posting  such concerns in a public forum is going to allow to become open for discussion.

I have a feeling no....it takes a certain sophistication of logical thought and realization of consequences, which I don't see evident in the debate from the "post it everywhere" side.

alright. I'm a general lurker, note the number of posts, but that my id is not in the 9 thousand range  ;)   I HAVE been on the killers mailing list for a good 6 months. The last email I got from them was mid-march, so much for being a fan.  I actually have a job where I can't be checking each band I love every freaking day(I checked 2 days ago and there was nothing about this!). And the best I could come up with at ticketmaster at 10 am for 4 tickets was lawn. So now we're split up around the center section kinda far back.  Will be trying again tomorrow, hopefully they'll release better and more seats. And I can sell at an outrageous price to the friends of all you people who decided it was necesssary to broadcast the presale password!!!
