Title: Bono on Meet the Press
Post by: vansmack on June 24, 2005, 01:21:00 pm
Because everybody loves him, I thought I would let you all know that Bono will be on the Meet the Press this Sunday.

His interview is scheduled to follow Donald Rumsfeld, of all people.

 ------------------------------------------------------
                     NBC Meet The Press
 ------------------------------------------------------

MEET THE PRESS WITH TIM RUSSERT
 WEEKEND LISTINGS 6/26/05

 DONALD RUMSFELD
 Secretary of Defense

 BONO
 Lead Singer, U2
Co-Founder, DATA (Debt, AIDS, Trade, Africa)

With increased questions about the length and costs of U.S. involvement in Iraq, the Bush administration is facing mounting political pressure to define our mission, as well as our exit strategy.  With us this Sunday to address the U.S. role in Iraq is the Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.

Then, an exclusive interview with Bono, the lead singer of U2 who is also a leading voice fighting poverty in Africa.  Bono - the co-founder of DATA (Debt, AIDS, Trade, Africa) - will make his first appearance on "Meet the Press" to discuss the global fight against poverty and the July 2nd,  "Live 8" series of concerts -- which seek to encourage the G-8 nations to provide the world's poorest nations with complete debt cancellation, increased aid, and more trade.

Rumsfeld and Bono -- only on this Sunday's "Meet the Press with Tim Russert."

Tim Russert is the moderator of "Meet the Press." Betsy Fischer is the executive producer. Michelle Jaconi and Christine Egy are producers.

"Meet the Press" is regularly seen from 9-10 a.m. ET, except in Washington D.C. and New York City where the broadcast is seen from 10:30-11:30 a.m ET. Please check local listings or the "Meet the Press" website (www.mtp.msnbc.com <http://www.mtp.msnbc.com>) for airtimes in your area.

Not big enough.  He'll need to lead a global institution.

And Ireland, for the record has both a President and a Prime Minister.

even more embarrassingly for me (but partly a reflection on the overall approach to teaching Irish in schools) is that after 20 years of living there and it being taught to me I never really got the hang of it either, along with about 95% of the population

you know, it's become fashionable to rag on Bono b/c he's so full of himself or above it all or whatever.  i think the guy puts his money where his mouth is---maybe he's self asorbed like a lot of rock stars and celebrities but how many other people with his money and fame are leading efforts for things like finding solutions for AIDS in Africa?  He's knows his fame will bring attention to this and he's right.  it's not like he's just going to parties in his free time. he probably has singlehandedly brought more attention to this issue than anyone else in the world. i think he deserves a lot of cred.

Tell that to all of the hard working Irish taxpayers!!!

This show had to be full of more shit than a DMB bridge crossing incident.

I'll bet you care a lot about disasters, fires, floods and killer bees?

ok, not sure what you mean by the reference to disasters and killer bees, etc.  but ok, whatever.

And Jag, i watched MTP and i thought Bono had good things to say.  and i worked in politics for 10 years, so i'm as cynical as they come about tv appearances.  he did a lot better than Donald Rumsfeld who was on before him--Rummy was fumbling all over himself trying not to answer Tim Russert's questions.

I agree with Tooms. I was actually quit surprised with how informed Bono came across as well as how sincere he seemed to be. I don't think that was acting, especially when he admitted that Bush and Blair may be using him as a puppet.

I didn't see it but I would fully expect that Bono would have came off much better than old Dumbsfeld considering all the super deep stinking shit he and his elite buddies have us all mired in at the moment with the outlook looking even worse for us.

Either way, considering both guests, in my eyes, the show was one I'd regard as a total shitfest.

Why is it that most of these blow bag rock stars seem to never care about the many disenfranchiesed in their own countries? Doesn't charity start at home? No disrespect whatsoever intended towards the hardships of others elsewhere. It's just that the homies always seem to get left out in the cold, so to speak. And as we all know, just because a country is rich, or even well off, doesn't mean that all of it's citizens share in that wealth.

3 sold out nights in Dublin to more that 240,000 Irish last weekend.  The Irish seem to be OK with it.

HIV/AIDS - adult prevalence rate in Ireland:
0.1% (2001 est.).  Less then 100 people die in Ireland a year from AIDS.

Less then 10% of Ireland lives below the Poverty Line.

 4.3% Unemployment rate.

What do you want him to fix again?
