Wow, the 930 club in Baltimore...that's not a good thing for us DC residents....means less shows down here. And its a real bad thing for the Recher...who will now have nothing but jam bands to book.

Hey sonick, get on this one, why hasn't BigYawn gotten it's ugly paws all over this one?

Maybe it won't affect us in DC. Sometimes bands/artists go to venues in Baltimore, and still make their way to DC/VA. Or, they visit the club another time during the course of the year.
Sometimes, Norva books the same bands/artist on tour as 9:30 club. As a whole, I think 9:30 club books better acts than the Norva. So, maybe this new club will provide similar bookings to that of the Norva.
I was at Rams Head (Annapolis) over the weekend - I didn't see or hear anything about this announcement.
More reasons to visit Jag and Sonick! :)

We're evil for thinking this, aren't we....but I thought it.  Seems like more bands have been skipping DC these days anyway....

Yeah, but how many people from the DC area are going to travel to Norfolk for a show, esp. on a weeknight? Baltimore is much closer and lately it seems that tours have been doing an "either/or" approach to this area.

my memory might be a bit fuzzy on this one, but isn't this just the latest in a series of attempts to use that space as a live music venue?  plus if the rams head is promoting it, will it have rams head/birchmere standard pricing

Does this mean expensive?  I've never been to Ram's Head, and Birchmere just a few times....

Also, is this place in the city --isn't the power plant thingamajig near the waterfront?

yup i.e john hiatt solo at the ramshead $60 clams... now the ramshead gets a "premium" price for tickets because of the "intimate" nature of the venue.  however, they charge the same if you get a table near near the starge or get stuck in the corner.  this venue bigger than the ramshead so who knows what the pricing will be like.  and ticket prices depend on what the artist want to get paid to shake thier groove makers...

Ultimately Bohager's and Hammerjacks didn't take that many shows away from DC...I'm not too worried about it.

ewewew.  the power plant is just a shell that holds one failing corporate chain after another.  i doubt i would ever want to go there for a show.

and also, reputation has a lot to do with booking, right?  i mean, you hear bands talk about venues they expect to play, and Black Cat and 9:30 are the two really established venues here.  Recher doesn't have a name like them yet, and this new place (or Ram's Head for that matter) certainly won't either.

 I'm not worried.

More places to see shows...... YAY!

They wont get away with real high ticket prices if they want the club full most nights. 1200 tickets are quite a lot to sell. Plus within 1 hours drive there is lots of venue competition.

Initially I did this of the repercussions of a new venue affecting Recher, Fletcher's, etc. Now, I'm less on the positive side about the possible affects of bands/artists skipping 9:30 club to help support this new venue or because of conflicts in booking/scheduling. Baltimore is much closer (obvious, I know) than the Norva. I'm wondering if having this new venue will be like the old days of The Bayou and the old 9:30 club.  Yep, the Power Plant is near the Waterfront. Some of the shows I think are expensive at Birchmere/Rams Head.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

I can't believe that anyone is actually worried about Baltimore taking shows from DC. Especially at that forever in the red hole known as The Power Plant.

 LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Besides, I have a feeling that they will lean more towards the mainstream and Frat set than our usual Indie and Brit Rocking hipster types. Or maybe they'll look to be the new hard rocking Hammerjacks.   :D

Wouldn't this possibly drive 9:30 ticket prices higher?

The 9:30 would be competing for shows with this venue, forcing them to outbid this new venue.

The 9:30, in turn, would take the increase in booking costs and pass it on to it's beloved patrons...

That's exactly what I thought...maybe with another venue bands I want to see may get booked....because it's ALL about me you know.

Really -- Beautiful South isn't touring.  The Waterboys come around once a year, as does Bowie.

Do you like any other bands?
