I've got a friend in Nigeria who just received 7 million US dollars as an inheritance. Because he's about to be exiled, Nigeria won't let him store the money in any of their banks. Is it possible if any of you allow him to keep his money in your account? You'll definitely get a cut. Just email me your account information and I'll pass it along to my good friend.

Not that I want to defend a thief in anyway, but I doubt that English is their native language. Either way, you would think that they would have enough brains to somehow verify their text. My God, English spell checkers must be the most common ones around and you don't even have to leave your cyber-driver's seat to find one.

There are many versions of this e-mail in play now (not all quite so mangled, though most seem to demand suspension of belief in the quality assurance procedures of Citibank customer service). The sick thing is, apparently at least a few people have been taken in--hence the popularity of copycat versions. You'd think that the copycats would at least cut and paste rather than further torturing the grammar and spelling. (Or maybe it's a diabolical experiment to determine just how credulous the American public is, for purposes of designing future scams.) At any rate, Citibank seems to be taking it pretty seriously Citi e-mail fraud alert link (http://www.citibank.com/domain/spoof/report_abuse.htm?BVE=http://web.da-us.citibank.com&BVP=/cgi-bin/citifi/scripts/&M=S&US&_u=visitor) .
