Hah that one did come to mind.

I'd do BYOP->sick velvet lineup next friday if I didn't have a wedding to attend.

The Velvet lineup is still doable, though.

I'll be the guy all dressed up and feeling all sorts of awkward.  :)

Back to the topic at hand:
Masaki Batoh/Helena Espval opening for Damon and Naomi (great on disc but a snoozefest live).

Going to see Muse last year at Merriweather and leaving before My Chemical Romance went on.

Pelican toured opening for Thrice recently.

Explosions in the sky typically have great openers (Eluvium, Lichens).

That reminds me; I need to make a few additions to the "snailhook..." thread.

are you saying that EITS are a worse act than their openers?  eluvium was sweet, but it's not as if he blew EITS out of the water - i still preferred the headliner.  and let's not forget that wedged between them was The Paper Chase, arguably one of the least enjoyable openers i have ever experienced.

it was indeed a great set, but death cab put on a very respectable performance afterwards.  i too was wondering, after that amazing set, what the hell dcfc would have to come up with to not look lame.  FF were still the highlight of the night, but dcfc managed to pull it off.

I'm just not too crazy about EITS.

Knew I'd catch shit for that post.

And yes, the Paper Chase were awful.

I did that too!

Also, didn't The Hives just open up for Maroon 5 a few months back?

And agree with DYOP opening for SWR. How sad is it this is gonna be my 4th time seeing SWR. The first 2 times I wanted to see them, Im completely over them.

To be fair here, isn't any band going to seem "good" next to The Bravery?

String Cheese Incident.

Some girl from college wanted me to go to that show with her.

As much as having a chance with said girl would've been nice, I couldn't put myself through that torture.

Shit.

The Flaming Lips opened for them?

What the hell was wrong with the world for that to happen.

They opened for a lot of jambands that year.

moe. and the Disco Biscuits were two others off the top of my head.

I dont see the Lips as a "jamband" type of act.  I guess the audiences are somewhat similar, but still.  Weird

Both they and ween have been pandering to the jammy crowd and have been regulars on the jamband festival circuit for a while now. A paycheck is a paycheck, I guess.

yeah, i went to the norfolk one, not the fairfax one... and then i went to the one where they opened for moe as well in charleston a couple days later (it was "on the way" down to atlanta for radiohead).. overall it was a good experience, but mainly because i didn't stay for the headliners.   they didn't actually tour with those bands, just played some random shows.

Not that the headliner was crap, but I bought tickets to see BNL at Merriweather solely because The Beautiful South were the support band. I had no interest in seeing BNL but we decided to stay anyway and enjoyed them.

One could argue the Dropkick Murphy's opening for the Bosstones at Merriweather soon.
