Title: Merriweather website
Post by: helicon1 on February 05, 2004, 12:34:00 am
Just want to say that it's really nice not to see all the Clear Channel banners and ads that used to drown the Merriweather website. Looks like a sign of good things to come  :)  Great job!

where's the site now?  I went to mppconcerts.com and got a generic clear channel page.

Does that include when tickets initially go on sale?  Like Saturdays at 10:00am?  Or just during regular box-office hours?

I really hope Merriweather does well this year.  There are so many excellent shows too big for the club but would be swallowed up at the bloated Nissan Pavilion.  The Pixies spring to mind.  Hopefully lots of bands will to play at a non Clear Channel venue this summer.  I wonder what Seth's got up his sleeves?

too big for 930? If the pixies fill up Merriweather, Ill eat my shoes.

That'll be a tough call.  Their reputation and legend has grown almost exponentially in the last 10 years.  I know a cadre of early 20-somethings who all view the Pixies as musical forefathers and will fall head over heels to see them.

More shows along the lines of Kenny Chesney/Rascal Flatts/Uncle Kracker? If you're thinking Merriweather is going to mutate into a hip place, this show is evidence to the contrary.

you will all rue the day when Rascal Flatts is hip.

Well that bible of hipness AMG gave their last two albums four stars each. Better than Radiohead did, but not as good as Wilco did.

not familiar with AMG

but i suppose its good that Radiohead is less hip than Wilco

Coachella has Wilco opening for Radiohead and the Pixies though.

AMG=www.allmusic.com

Again, I was being sarcastic. Allmusic is harly a reliable source for music reviews. Seems more like a vehicle to sell music rather than a critical resource.

Seems like Wilco SHOULD be opening for Radiohead. Radiohead has probably sold many more records.

If Pixies ar #2 on the bill and Wilco is #3, does that really mean that one is opening for the other? I'm willing to wager they probably get equal stage time.

dunno really what the order is, the headliner gets an extra 20 minutes opposed to everyone else though.  its possible Wilco would headline a 2nd stage but i highly doubt it , they certainly seem Main Stage material.

oh, yeah, screw allmusic.com   unless i am trying to find where a band is from

I use allmusic to get a basic idea, then look elsewhere for more meaningful material.

Merriweather is a helluva lot hipper than Nissan.  I will never go to another show out there again.  Some of the best shows I've ever seen have been at MPP.  Sugarcubes/PIL/New Order on the same bill back in 89.  Even last year's Radiohead show was amazing.  Best acoustics of any outdoor venue anywhere.  Granted, I'm not really excited about the first two shows announced but I have a feeling IMP will put together some great packages.

You must be joking.  Never seen a show at Wolf Trap?  Tanglewood (MA)?  Blossom (OH)?  AmSouth (TN)?  The Greek or Shoreline (CA)?  Or any number of other exponentially superior (from an acoustic standpoint) outdoor venues?  Comparatively, the sound at MPP has been suck-o-rama.  Let's hope that Seth will have some influence on updating that, as well as what we all presume will be a more interesting booking policy.
