Who's going? It'll be my first show of '07. I hope he plays Sons of Cain and Bottle of Buckie.
-
I'll be there!
-
Is he still modelling for the Lucky Charms boxtop?
-
i'm going and hope the new songs are featured minimally. the new album was kind of a let down.

The new songs are really good live: at least the ones previewed last fall: sons of cain, who do you love, some beginners, army bound, CIA, etc.
It will be interesting to hear "Bomb" live: very different from the rest of the repetoire.
-
After seeing him at least 15 times prior, I'm hoping for alot of new songs.

The new album is a bit long and inconsistent, but there are some great tunes on it.

agreed - if he had cut down to 10 from 15 it would have been a cracker
-
My thoughts exactly. All his albums are too long for me. Cut 45 seconds of each song or something and get the albums running time to 38-42 mins. I know its picking nits but I think it was allmusic's reviewer that said the album could be awesome and he could do better.
-
anyone have a recent setlist?
-
I'll be there. I love the new album, so I'd be happy to hear a bunch of new songs.
-
It makes me sad that this is the same night as the Monopoli show at DC9. I already have a ticket for this so I'm going but would love to see the final Monopoli show.
-
I shall be there, pretty excited, Ted always gives a great show.
-
Bottle of Buckie is such an annoying song!
I had tickets and was going to go, but ended up unable due to school and moneyz, so I sold them.
-
I'll be there.

thanks.
-
yuppers. count me in.
-
I hope the new songs sound better live. . the album was a huge disappointment to me. I think half of it is barely listenable.

I thought that was one of the better songs.

I'm going. I've never seen him before, so I'm really looking forward to it, although I too wasn't overly impressed with the new album. It should be a fun show no matter what he plays, though. :)
-
It's also being broadcast on NPR tonight.
-
me.
-
He's on the Kojo Nnamdi show today around 1:00 if anyone didn't get tickets. I always see Kojo at TL/RX shows.
-
I'll be there. The last time I saw Ted was the last time he was at the Black Cat and he was really sick, but Ted being Ted, he still put on a very good show.
His new album seems like a great EP that was just stretched to a full length. The first 6 tracks (not counting the intro) stand up to just about anything he's done.
-
Anyone have an opinion of the opener, Love of Diagrams?
-
I still have an extra ticket if anyone needs one.
-
It's on tonight for the extra ticket selling.
The Love of Diagrams EP that's out is really good. The full-length comes out in April, I think, and I haven't heard it yet.
-
Haha, you can never tell whether more people will be looking for tickets or selling tickets at the door. I guess we'll see. :)
-
I was listening to The Best Show on WFMU a few weeks ago and Ted was helping out with the fundraising marathon... which was great and hilarious as usual. Anyhoo, when talk of Living w/ the Living came up, Ted remarked "I don't even really like the new album", half-jokingly.
-
now that was a fun show, with an energetic crowd and great sound! thought he might play a bit longer since his reportoire of material is every growing. we were packed in there like sardines, no matter where you stood.
-
His show gets better every time I see him. Tonight was brilliant.

They would have been fine had they had a vocalist between them who could actually sing...the music was good, but their voices were absolutely atrocious.
As for Ted, he always sounds better than ever at the 930 Club, and last night was no exception. I loved the new stuff, and I can't wait to actually be able to listen to the new cd (I bought it last night, and I've refused to download it or even preview it so far).
-
Great again, as always. I must have hit the jackpot where I was standing (Floor about 15 feet from the entrance on the right) no tall people and I had some personal space.
New songs sounded awesome. Bottle of Buckie and Sons of Cain kicked it. Bomb.Repeat.Bomb, which I don't like on the album was good live. It felt a little short but I'm sure it wasn't. I would have liked a few more Hearts of Oak tunes but their absence was a deal breaker.
-
He played for about an hour and a half. Since most bands seem to only play for about an hour these days, I was pretty happy with that.
-
good show, LOUD! I thoought the first 40 mins were excellent with highlights including a few songs from Hearts of Oak and Bomb Repeat Bomb - I bailed before the encore - what did he play?
does anyone else think he's a little uncomfortable with his expanding and diverse fan base - I thought I detected a bit of an edge to his 'Merriweather girls' banter...
-
I didn't get that, but I was in the balcony. I thought he was overly nice to them.
Band sounded really really good. His voice was in the best shape it's been in awhile. Of the two major clunkers to me on the new album (Bomb.Repeat.Bomb) and the reggae song, I thought the reggae song came off pretty well live. For the encore, he played Timorous Me, Walking To Do (or did he play that at the end of the regular set), and the Chumbawumba cover on the new album's bonus disc, Rapaport's Lament.
-
If you missed the show or the stream on NPR, or otherwise just want it, it is available for download on npr.org.
-
glad you guys had fun. I had fun at the Dean & Britta show (with Luna songs!).
-
Lot of people at that one? Do they play as a duo, or is it a full band?

I'm with you on the reggae song (curious to know what GGW thinks of it) but Bomb is probably the best song on the album for me!
-
It was half-full. Full band with drummer, vibraphone player, and keyboardist. Amazing show, I thought. 90 minute show!

i had a good time. ted sounded good. some songs off tyranny of distance which i love. i didn't hang around much for the encore (true fact: i hate encores) so if he played under the hedge i'll be sad, but i'm betting he didn't.
i thought the crowd was bouncy and fun. and largely not-annoying which is nice.
love of diagrams didn't do much for me. like a less-interesting rogers sisters maybe.
-
It would take both hands and maybe one foot to count the number of times I??ve seen Ted Leo. I thought last night was among the best of them. The added guitarist really rounds things out. The setlist was a well laid out mix of new and old. He almost lost the mojo by playing ??Bomb, Repeat, Bomb? ?? a song which should henceforth be banished from his repertoire ?? but quickly got it back.
I though Love of Diagrams were fantastic. Maybe the singing isn??t for everyone, but it??s post-punk ?? not a genre known for mellifluous vocal styling.

I kinda like the reggae vibe. Maybe not his strongest suit, but it gives a Clash feel. I don't like "Bomb." It sounds like he's trying to be Q and not U or early D-Plan. It just doesn't work for him at all (IMHO).

hah, there was a group of four behind us (left side of the balcony) who kept saying how great they were, and also hitting every single annoying variation of the drunken YEAHHHHHH shout on the planet during their set.
I WONDER IF THAT WAS YOU
-
NO. IT WASN'T ME. SORRY.

starting 15 minutes before the time posted on 930.com isn't cool. otherwise, all very cool. except for bombrepeat, on which i very much agree w/ggw.

I wonder if NPR had something to do with that? The article promoting the webcast stated that the show would start sometime around 9:40. Apparently, they knew about the early start time.
-
Ted kicked ass, I'm so thankful I finally got to see him. The new songs did sond pretty good live, although I too think he would do well not to play "Bomb" anymore. The reggae one came off pretty well, though.

Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what I thought of them.
-
I thought 'Bomb' and 'Unwanted Things' were both killer. I really only wish that he had played La Costa Brava, which is definitely my favorite track on the album.

Saw Ted Leo & the Pharmacists last night and they were great, lots of energy. Love of Diagrams had to cancel due to illness, so a local band opened. They were OK, but I'm not rushing to see when they're performing next.
