Does anyone know of a cool, nifty new way of sharing music. something i can put songs on and other people can go to and download them?
i know, i know, its illegal but i'm just gonna burn em these discs anyway.
i suppose 1GB of storage space on a website might work?
any suggestions? merci.
-
have you considered joining lala to swap those cds? what are you trying to rid of and what might you be interested in getting...
-
as a RIAA-respecting memeber of this community, i must take a strong stand here, thus i will NOT suggest that you use illegal services such as soulseek or limewire ("direct connect to host" function). that would be wrong.
-
You guys are going to put these musicians out of work. They're going to have to get real jobs and won't be able to tour, and all you'll be able to see live at the clubs are shitty DC and Baltimore bands like Jimmies Chicken Shack.
-
i think i just got 3 totally different responses!
i dont want to use P2P cause people think you can get arrested using them. and i am not trying to actually trade CDs. but sometimes i find a good song. I have a common folder on my work server i use, but that could land me in hot water, and is only accessible to my co-workers.
I suppose i could make a website then upload the songs to there, but shit if i know how to make a website!
i did get a nifty suggestion from a PM though, thank you!

If you're good with torrenting, oink. I have something like 10 invites if anyone wants one.

i am clueless on torrenting, but have been meaning to tackle it soon, an invite to what, you say?
-
Oink is a private torrent network where youcan download hundreds of thousands of albums. It is not what you want.
-
Torrenting is pretty self-explanitory. Oink is a torrent-based music download/sharing site that makes sharing/downloading music easier than it's ever been.
Indietorrents is another good one that sticks to non-riaa affiliated music.

Seriously if you are looking for a legal way to "share" music lala is a really good way to go... unless you are trying to flip hootie for sufjan
list or pm me titles you are trying to dump and i can tell you if they are instant shippers at lala or not. there are also some really good prices for new there as well at the moment.
-
And if you want to join, ask me for an invite! Kosmo probably has all of the free shirts already anyway :D

and if ya gots cds that people want and can get cds you want lala couldn't be easier... they send all the shipping supplies for free and postage is paid like netflix.

I agree Lala is the best thing since sliced bread, but it sounds to me like sonick is trying to share digital songs/albums that he discovers or likes to his friends quickly and easily. Not sure Lala is what he wants, but anyone that's not interested in signing up is a fool in my book. It's the way to go for older, mainstream albums.
-
ok now i see what he's after.. misread the part about burning em, which i saw as sharing and then dumping not copying them.

Sounds like he wants to start an MP3 blog (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP3_blog).
-
Sounds like you want a virtual LAN for just your friends.
I'd recommend a Himachi network:

i love you guys!!!
you the most knowledgable pals a guy could have!
without really being my real pals! ya know?
:)
i'll let you all know once i've gotten something going.
an mp3 blog sounds exactly what i want...just not sure where to begin.

sendspace.com sounds like a cool place to start, though i will probably end up looking for a more creative outlet....i'll see if friends actually use this one first, before i dedicate countless hours to create a website, blog..and pay for it!
here is a link to my sendspace folder...just put a couple songs...let me know if it works, doesnt work, etc. (http://www.sendspace.com/folder/wpxeo5)

if you really want an mp3 blog i'm in the process of changing web hosting providers and have lots of space and bandwidth for some blogging, just besure to leave those files up for a couple days only...

yeah, PM or email me about it, i was actually hoping to have most of my blog be links to music already available online, with maybe a private page for friends or something.
