Title: NO MORE BUSH tour
Post by: sonicyouth42 on August 04, 2008, 03:28:00 pm
Any info on this?  My girlfriend really wants to go to see MV+EE, but I have no idea how the setup will be.  With 8 or so acts, they can't play for very long -- maybe certain groups will collaborate on stage?  I'm trying to decide whether it's worth the drive, since I'm a couple hours outside the DC area.

Just wondering if you guys knew anything.  Maybe snailhook, since the show's at the Lounge?

I think all the colabborations are noted.

 50 foot women+Axolotl for example.

I imagine the reading portions won't be very long.

 MV+EE acoustic will be amazing.

And so will Jack Rose (as usual).

 Zaika will be a trip.

 Pretty excited for this show.

It's more of a celebration of the Bush era's coming to an end:

"Five years ago, in a time of woe for the underground, the country and the world, the members of the Ecstatic Yod Collective organized a tour called More Hair Less Bush. Including a variety of musicians and writers, the tour brought the flame of hope to cities cast into darkness by the hideous secretions of the Bush Twins.

Now, in 2008, as we prepare to enjoy the long-promised fruits of regime change, we felt it was time to bring our show on the road again. But this time, rather than offering balm and apologies to the psychically wounded, we would like to celebrate the pre-dawn of a new day ?? a day when the word ??cheney? is once more an empty phrase we use to terrify youngsters."

Although you do raise a valid point, "bush" has always been used to refer to girls.

This thread's taking a weird turn.

Wait...who's Chris Grier playing with? Is the special guest Tom Smith and will a bunch of the musicians take part in a noisy fucked-up TLASILA-esque jam at the end? Because that'd be all sorts of awesome.

I saw a guy wearing a Nader t-shirt yesterday... I wanted to tell him that he's the reason we had Bush/Cheney for the last seven and a half years, but then I realized that would only add to the insufferable self-righteousness such people carry around with them...  so I briefly contemplated punching him in the face, but recognized that wouldn't be productive, either.

That band's disappearance is cause for celebration, too.

But he didn't elminate the deficit while getting head in the oval office so it's not an impeachable offense.

There really is no hope for experimental music in D.C. if this show doesn't draw a decent amount.

So how was the show?  Who was the special guest?  I ended up not being able to make it tonight, so I'll be seeing it tomorrow in Baltimore.

Also, I hate anyone and everyone who says that bullshit about Nader being the reason for blah blah blah...

Show was excellent.

Jack Rose was incredible as to be expected. Reaffirmed my claim of his being the best living acoustic fingerpicker right now.

MV&EE dragged a bit IMO and something about the sound was slightly off during their set. Want to say it was too much high end.

Zaika exceeded expectations with a lengthy shape-shifting jam which kept me thoroughly interested for the duration of their set.

Axolotl/50 foot women was a great way to kick off the night musically.

I guess the special guest was Chris Grier who played a 5-10 minute solo set which was just the right length for what he was doing.

Byron Coley is a funny motherfucker.

 Think that somes everything up.

May go to Baltimore tonight too.

Oh and the turnout was way better than I expected which was a very pleasant surprise.
