Title: The Raconteurs last night
Post by: nrketch on May 29, 2008, 07:37:00 am
I just want to say D.C. should be ashamed of itself. This is the third concert I've been to at the 9:30 Club and once again I was let down by the crowd. The Raconteurs are one of the better bands out right now in my humble opinion, but you wouldn't know that by looking at the crowd. Why pay $40 to stand there with your dick in your hand. Come on peopel look alive! I've been to a handfull of places to see concerts, and D.C. by far fails in comparison to any other crowd I've been around. Just ridiculous!

Fuck you douchebag. If you pay $40 to see a show, you should be able to enjoy it in whatever way you see legally fit. If the joy of your concertgoing experience is dependent on how many puppet cheerleaders and moron dancers are in the crowd, then you truly are a douchebag.

Again, I will add. You are a douchebag. Stay the fuck home next time and play video games or watch Sopranos reruns or work on your sprayon tan, or whatever the fuck it is that douchebags usually do. Because we don't want douchebags of your kind at concerts in D.C.

 End of rant.

For all the reasons to complain about a audience at a show this is such a non issue... You might as be complaining that they don't dance at show in DC either        People being rude, chattering away, taking pictures with their phones, drunks, etc are valid complaints.

Did it ever occur to you that it's the middle of the week, people may have been at work and were a bit weary and just wanted to hear the band live without bouncing off the walls in the process.  Sheesh...  Go to some kiddie punk/emo show and have a blast

do you go to shows for the band or for the crowd?

what did you expect, a mosh pit?  crowd surfing?  do-si-do & a promenade?  from the middle of the floor, i thought the crowd was very good.  not too much talking (certainly couldn't hear it over the loud PA), enthusiastic, in to the music.  we were too packed in to do much dancing/air-guitaring anyways.  i appreciated not being amidst pogoing idiots and hyperactive teenyboppers.  i actually got to enjoy the show.

and congrats on starting a thread titled EXACTLY like one that already exists (minus the "the").  nice first post.

 douchebaggery confirmed.

I didn't go to the show, I have no idea who the band is, but if you want a social scene go to a club, if you want a concert, go to one of the best venues in the area when there is one going.

If I had a dollar for the horn throwing head banging douchebags I saw at this crowd, I'd have like 7 dollars.

Drunk asshole not letting me get back to my spot from the bar.

I love The Raconteurs and I was just disappointed in the lack of energy. By no means did I expect mosh pits or crowd surfing, just a little of any movement to show that you were excited to be there. I don't go to concerts for the social aspect, it's just that to me concerts are better when the crowd is into it. A hand in the air every now and again will suffice. It just seemed like 90% of the people might as well have been listening to the CD in their room, because that's how excited they acted. It's a live concert loosen up. I'm sure the band would rather see a few people looking half assed excited to see them play.

Limp-wristed response perfectly aligned with your douchebag status.  You should change your username.  We can do that here.  I don't think we've ever had a DoucheBag posting on the forum.

ah, much better.  as Voltaire said, "i disapprove of what you say, but i will defend to the death your right to say it" - much more measured response.

personally, i don't think folks in attendance were better off "listening to the CD in their room" - where were you standing/positioned in the club?!?  the vast majority around me was rocking out as best it could under the crushed, packed-in conditions.

fyi, i'm fairly confident that i've seen more shows in more cities than you have (go ahead, try me) - and while DC might not be the most rocking-out-est evar on any given night, the raconteurs crowd last night was inline with any show i've seen anywhere. i'm fairly confident the band walked off-stage last night feeling a lot of love.

the mere fact that two shows sold out almost instantaneously would suggest that people were excited to see the show.  and i suspect when jack and co. look out into the crowd all they see is dollar signs.  do honestly thing seasoned veterans like these guys are going to give less because a darken room of shoulder to shoulder people aren't reacting in a ohmygod this is the greatest band in the world were all your biggest fan please shower us with your almighty talents!  if the audience isn't reacting maybe the band should be trying harder...

'dc crowds suck' is more tired than 'only new york has real pizza.'    i agree that the crowd was actually pretty good last night.   also, in general, i think its hard to get too loose when you have no space . . . and its a wednesday .  . . . on wednesday i tend to internalize music.

Just let's not confuse 'energy' with 'drunkenness'. With our more staid bunch, we also get less fighting, fewer dudes peeing openly in the street etc

I know this happens a lot at very crowded shows, but  a friend who went pointed out that it was a PARTICULARLY bad crowd in terms of going for a beer and then hoping to get back to where you'd been ALL NIGHT LONG.

I hate that.  Someone coming back with two or three beers is clearly not trying to snake his way further up into the crowd and 'screw you.'  But, I go to many concerts and am well educated in the vagaries of crowd behavior.  At a show like this, many are not.

from the middle of the floor, things started off fine but got progressively worse as people packed themselves in.  i made a beer run about 3 or 4 songs in, and had no problems getting back to our spot.  but my return from the bathroom, just before the encore, was a no-go.  people just weren't giving way and when they did there was nowhere to go.  i caught the end of the main set from the back of the room, managed to get back to our spot during the intermission.

Boo fucking hoo. Are you there to drink or are you there to watch good music? Get your drinks between sets. I hate pushy assholes who push their way through a crowd (usually spilling their beers on people) when the band is playing.

Between sets?  You mean between bands?  Hmmm, not sure that's a business model the club would favor.  Just because you don't drink (much or at all, not sure which) doesn't mean the rest of us shouldn't.  It's usually not a problem.  I don't drink during the week at shows (more than a beer or two), but I certainly don't mind folks that do.  And I make up for it on Friday or Saturday nights - like tonight!!   ;)

did you not get the memo that clearly stated that dick holding was only suppose to occur in specific places at specific times.  violation of those rules meant immediate lose of certain privileges.

i don't drink because i'm to busy holding my dick...
