Unfortunately, I am going to be in Chicago on Monday night so I'll be missing this show.
I have a ticket that I can't use. If anybody is in Rosslyn today and wants the ticket (gratis), send me a PM.
-
still debating it
-
will be there
-
I'll be there... Just turn around and look left up towards the DJ booth and wave :) Hopefully no one will leap from the balcony in despair, because of the moody chamber pop heavy set being planned.
-
Amy Annelle, leader of opening band The Places, is a brilliant songwriter and singer, so if you're going try not to miss her.
-
duh.
"make us cry!"
-
My friend went to see them the last time they were here and he walked out before it was over, so I wont be going.
-
i'll be there, and i won't be working. kosmo, i might pop in to the DJ booth to say hi. this is a strong triple-bill, and the places should surprise many that go early.
-
Looks like they will be playing The Tain again this tour, I know others did not care for it, but I am really glad they are doing it again.
-
im thinking about going to see the long winters, but ijust saw them at the black cat so i dunno....
-
I'll be there. I have a softball game that I'm committed to, so, unless it rains, I'll probably only get there in time for The Decemberists. Saw them at the Black Cat a few months ago, and I thought they were excellent.
-
Someone cannot spell the bands name correctly.....
On the front page:
Today is......
Decembrists
Maybe we will get to see Russian revolutionaries instead?
-
Anyone want a pair of Decemb(e)rist tickets?
-
my evening just got a tad easier as the waxwings have been taken off the velvet lounge schedule...
-
seems the I'm the only one up for seeing the band for a third time, so there will be an unescorted chimbly in the crowd. ;)
-
I'm gonna skip this one reluctantly - seen em twice in the last 6 months and am definietly goin to Franz Ferdinand and maybe to Neko Case this week which is enough gigging for me
-
I wonder how full the show will be, would be a shame if it was not very full, I think part of the reason the other 2 shows were so good is that they were excited to see how full the rooms were.
-
great show, can't really say if it was better than the other 2 because they all had moments that made them great, they did play a pretty long set with a couple of new songs and generally more upbeat songs (no Grace Cathedral Hill for example), the cover of Ask was a nice touch as well and the sound was fantastic
-
Wow what a great show! Would have to say the highlight was "The Tain" even though it was the first time I'd ever heard it. For me the show started out a bit slow but really picked up steam towards the end.
I'll post my DJ setlist later today...
-
congrats Kosmo on another good set, thanks for the GBV and Fruit Bats
meant to mention the openers, The Places had a couple good songs, including one which made me think she was going to break out in to Neko Case's Deep Red Bells, I think I would prefer her on her recorded material more
The Long Winters put on another quality show, they are pretty consistent and tend to have a good time with the crowd, John Roderick was again hanging out in the back talking to fans
-
glad to hear it was a solid show. i couldn't go last night and gave up my tickets. though i do think they would have been suited for the black cat again in terms of crowd size. not much fun playing to a half full 930 club.
-
what was most interesting to me was watching how overwhelmed Colin was by the side of the room-- his eyes sort of bulged every time he looked up at the balcony. Sure, they rolled the stage forward to make the effect, but the place was pleasantly populated. It is interesting to trace them from Black Cat backstage to Black Cat mainstage to 9:30. Who knows, maybe next is the arena tour? (just kidding)
Every time I hear the Tain I think of Quix*o*tic. (What the hell happened to them, anyway?)
The crowd was young and didn't seem to know either "July, July" or "Ask". (How can a music fan not know such basics as "Ask," I ask?) Lots of cheering for what I would consider their worst material off the new album. Also, lots of folks amused at the bass-drum-in-the-crowd trick, which we've seen at their shows before.
By the way-- I hope it was that Colin didn't want to change a string on stage rather than that he didn't know how to. That's pretty sad.

Unfortunetely, I know zero of those songs.
-
Well considering that the oldest records were released around 1994 it's not hard to believe. But, I'd get cracking because there will be quiz on Friday.
-
i assume the Decemberists came with their own pre-show music-- those were the same clips that i remember hearing from the Black Cat show this spring.
oh, wait. that was almost the same set list too.
I was ripped off!

no it wasn't
i don't think they played leslie ann levine or Grace Cathedral Hill last night, did they even play Here I Dreamt I was an architect, and they played 2 new songs and 2 covers
they also played Apology song last night which I don't think was played last time
The one song they have not played at any of the shows, and I wish they would, is The Legionnaire's Lament
