Bjork?? Ugh. Think I'm gonna skip this year.
-
i have to skip this year, but yeah, Bjorks a real yawner.
-
Looking at their schedule, Explosions in the Sky seem highly likely...
Which would be great since I can't make it to the 9:30 show.
-
they have an interest in playing. i think i asked them about 06 and they were like 'not this year, maybe next year'. the schedule i think will allow for them to be there.. so..

Tickets are now on presale here ... http://coachella.ducatking.com/ (http://coachella.ducatking.com/)
You need to first register and then the code is ROXANNE
-
Hey! Wait a minute ... the code is ROXANNE ... The Police are reuniting this year ... do you think that .. er .. em?
-
The LA Times are "confirming" Rage Against The Machine, RHCP, Bjork, Arcade Fire, Interpol, Willie Nelson, the Roots, Manu Chao, The Decemberists, Arctic Monkeys, Travis, Sonic Youth, Crowded House, Air, Tiesto,Silversun Pickups, Ozomatli, The Good The Bad and The Queen, Jarvis Cocker, The Kooks, The Cribs, The Feeling and Kings of Leon.
No word on Police, strangely enough.
-
The LA Times are "confirming" Rage Against The Machine
RATM, with zack?!? what sort of backing do they have for such a claim?!? please post a link.
if that's true, i'm on the next plane to coachella. in all my years of concert-going, nothing - and i mean nothing - beats a RATM show. i'll be there, with both feet firmly planted off the ground.
-
Crowded House? Regrouped? Neil and Tim toured together a couple years ago, but I didn't think they were going to take it further than that.
Interpol and Travis? Can we expect a regular tour from them both again this year?
Interesting line up, but still not enough to sway me to go.
-
God damn it why RHCP? Do they have to fuck up every major festival now?
-
rage, bjork and the chili peppers?
are you sure thats not the lineup for Coachella 1995????
give me a break. i love coachella and i think its the best festival this side of the atlantic, but why must thier headliners almost ALWAYS be some washed up band from the 80s-90s? whats wrong with a newer band headlining?
Beastie boys, cure, tool, depeche mode? rage against the machine?
i'll give em coldplay and radiohead but other than that, their headliners are lame lame lame
at least the rest of the lineup looks awesome.
-
So . . . . you have an issue with Depeche Mode, Rage, & Tool but you like Coldplay. Coldplay. Ummmm . . . . yeah. Check.
-
Yup. It's confirmed. Rage is headlining. I may just have to make my 1st Coachella trip.
Rage, Bjork, Chili Peppers Sign On For Coachella
January 22, 2007, 12:00 AM ET
As first tipped here on Friday, a reunited Rage Against The Machine, Bjork and the Red Hot Chili Peppers will lead the lineup for the 2007 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, to be held April 27-29 in Indio, Calif. Sources tell Billboard.com the event will also feature a reunion gig from Crowded House as well as the Arcade Fire, Sonic Youth, Air, the Roots, Willie Nelson, Interpol, Manu Chao and Fountains Of Wayne.
Rage Against The Machine co-headlined the first Coachella with Tool in 1999, while Bjork was a headliner in 2002 and the Chili Peppers served in that role the following year. The full lineup will be announced imminently; it is also expected to sport sets by Jarvis Cocker, the Good, the Bad and the Queen, Hot Chip, Peeping Tom, the Decemberists, Arctic Monkeys, Tiesto, Kings Of Leon, Travis, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Lily Allen, Kaiser Chiefs, Silversun Pickups and LCD Soundsystem.
Sources say the Rage performance, the group's first since 2000, will likely be a one-off. Vocalist Zack de la Rocha has barely been heard from since the band split due to creative differences; fellow members Tom Morello, Brad Wilk and Tim Commerford went on to form Audioslave with ex-Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell.
Bjork will likely unveil material from her new studio album, due this spring via Atlantic. As previously reported, it will include contributions from producer Timbaland and vocalist Antony of Antony and the Johnsons.
Coachella tickets go on sale Saturday (January 27th)

I'd like to know why Willie Nelson is listed considering he is doing the Stagecoach Festival the following week as well. That does not make a lot of sense.
-
"God damn it why RHCP? Do they have to fuck up every major festival now?"
Apparently, yes. I am keeping my fingers crossed that Bonnaroo will somehow escape them this year.
-
From Pitchfork:
"Rage will headline the festival's final night, April 29, while Björk will headline on Friday, April 27 and the Red Hot Chili Peppers on Saturday, April 28. (Ugh Why do the Red Hot Chili Peppers always have to come around and ruin these sorts of things?)"
-
Also confirmed thru various sources:
Placebo
Faithless
Arctic Monkeys
Gotan Project
Happy Mondays
-
Pity the fools that didn't jump on the presale, with Ticketabastard charges you're looking at three bills EASY. But at least in this case it'll be worth every phuckin cent.
-
happy mondays? wtf? really?
-
Since Peeping Tom will be there I hope Mike Patton stabs Kiedis in the thorax.
-
I'm definitely skipping out this year. A few interesting bands, but this is not worth my time and money this time around, especially given that the bands I will most likely want to see will be in DC at some point this year anyway.
-
I'm too poor to go this year. I would really like to see Bjork though. I've never seen her. Looks like I'll be waiting to hear her other tour dates.
Can someone please make the Red Hot Chili Peppers GO AWAY? Thank you.
-
So . . . . you have an issue with Depeche Mode, Rage, & Tool but you like Coldplay. Coldplay. Ummmm . . . . yeah. Check.
no, silly, i dont like coldplay. but i can understand how they could headline such a festival.
welcome to the board, now stop assuming people like Coldplay.
-
So I take it the police thing isn't happening. :(
-
The Crowded House reunion makes a certain amount of sense, given that Neil and Tim Finn have continued to collaborate, and probably want to take advantage of the US release of the CD/DVD marking the 10th anniversary of Crwded House's final concert in Sydney.
However, given Paul Hester's suicide a couple of years ago, I'm surprised the rest of the band would want to do a reunion.
-
So I take it the police thing isn't happening.
either that, or they're still trying to keep the police thing "secret", as in worse kept secret ever. or maybe they really are no longer on the bill.
-
Doesn't the "rest of the band" consist of one other guy?

placebo and sparklehorse, pretty nice.
about 20 or so bands i'd like to see, many bands i havent really heard.
not the best, but certainly not the worst lineup they've had!
-
I know it's just one band, but is anyone else shocked that the Shins aren't on there? I would have bet money that this would have been the year for them to be there.
-
i havent counted, but this seems like not enough bands for 3 days. i would imagine their official announcement may have more, and then even more will be added.
but yeah, the shins are like one of the LAST bands i dont think have ever played chella.
-
Not enough? Paul's stated goal was to decrease conflicts and make everything smoother over a 3 day period, in that sense this seems like plenty and I personally hope they stand pat. My quota of making tough choices and running around with my head cut off is fulfilled at CMJ, Airwaves, and SXSW to once be able to enjoy everything would be nice.
-
well, since i dont plan on going this year, i wasnt all up on "Pauls stated goal" but based on past Coachella's, theres more bands to be added.
if he's booking less bands per day, than this may be 90%. (theres ALWAYS a few more)
personally, i liked Coachella for its conflicts. sometimes you'd get a close spot for a great band just because they were playing opposite a band you didnt care for or had already seen.
and even if i did have to miss a band i wanted to see, it was only because a better band was playing!!!
-
There's a pretty big one missing from that list. The Jesus and Mary Chain
-
tiesto / paul van dyke?
i'm not a big dance music fan, but aren't these guys generally sneered at?
-
Here's the poster:
http://coachella.com/poster/web480.jpg (http://coachella.com/poster/web480.jpg)
Jesus and Mary Chain?!!!! WTF?!
-
nice to see against me! on the list
-
The last time I saw the JAMC in concert they were horrible. Here's hoping that they won't suck at Coachella. And same thing for the Happy Mondays.
Too bad they didn't get Ned's Atomic Dustbin or Inspiral Carpets to play. I think I would have flown out for those!
-
I wouldn't be surprised if J&MC show up, play for 15 minutes and leave.
-
yeah, i saw JAMC in 1996 and they were POO POO
but who knows,
actually JAMC turns this into at least the second best lineup Coachella ever had.
if they got Mudhoney, it would be Number 1.
-
-
I dig the line up, but for some reason there isn't one act I really want to see (okay, maybe the Happy Mondays). Anyway, I'm waiting to see the official Bonnaroo line up before I make any decisions.
-
The Happy Mondays were the worst of Manchester. They have a few good songs, but the best stuff they released was the Hallelujah EP, and it was all remixes. Now the Stone Roses on the other hand...oh man.
From the Manchester baggy era, I think my faves are the Stone Roses, Inspiral Carpets, Charlatans UK (OK, they're from Norwich), and Northside. Inspiral Carpets put on the most psychedelic show I've ever seen...strobes, slide projections, just the most insane visuals that you can't even imagine. I know, sounds very Pink Floyd, but they were far more 60's garage than anything else. Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine put on one hell of a light show too. Those were some fun concerts.
-
"tiesto / paul van dyke?
i'm not a big dance music fan, but aren't these guys generally sneered at?"
They're fucking terrible. Anthemic jock-trance.
-
so why are they at an indie-festival?
-
Your guess is as good as mine. I'm sure there will be something else going on at the same time though. Infected Mushroom are along the same lines too. They're like lame trance with a psychedelic twist.
-
tiesto and PVD are mega-stars of the dance scene. that they would headline the dance tent portion of such a large festival isn't that surprising.
i found it very interesting that infected mushroom are scheduled to appear (they are notorious for "missing their plane" because of "health reason"). once upon a time they were highly respected in the psytrance scene, now they're derided because of their cross-over success and/or change of style. no matter how much one might consider Coachella to be an "indie-festival", to some it is a sign of selling out.
-
I was kinda hoping to see some minimal/techhouse I.E. Booka Shade, DJ T, Akufen, Isolee, M.A.N.D.Y., etc. instead of the usual trance suspects in the dance tent.
-
so why are they at an indie-festival?
you're kidding right?? an indie festival?
-
We've got an event on the horizon that will prevent us from going to any music festivals this year, but if we were in the market, I'd definitely opt for the pitchfork festival over this thing. Only $30 for a two day pass, and you have the delightful city of Chicago as your backdrop.
-
small nit-pick: 2 day pass is slated to be $35 this year. your point remains though: a little more than a tenth of the cost of coachella (although only 2/3 as long) for a festival that can definitely be qualified as "indie".

but whos playing? certainly that should matter!
Lollapalooza is also cheap (presale was $40 for 3 days and regular was $130 for 3-days)
and you also have chicago, and you also have a little more of a party atmosphere....if you like to party, i know rhett doesnt. ;)
-

i suppose, if you live in Chicago!
personally, i dont have a place to stay in chicago and hotels in the summer....arent too cheap.
-
I reckon I am biased toward festivals in Chicago and Seattle, since I have family in both places. So you are right about that. Additionally, I like to have a real city as a backdrop, because my wife would never go for making a vacation out of a music festival alone (and I would agree).
You can get a 3 star hotel on North Michigan Ave for $86, or a 1-2 star near O'Hare for $36, according to Hotwire, for the festival dates.
-
while i agree with you that chicago festivals are better than one in the desert...Coachella is NO slouch as far having great venue with a really cool view and backdrop.
especially being from the east where i never see that landscape.
i would think Bonnaroo is the big loser as far as location, with Lolla (and pitchfork and whatever that other one in Chitown is) and ACL winning and coachella coming not too far behind. :)
-
Pretty much agree with your assessment, though I've never been to that part of California or Tennessee.
Bumbershoot in Seattle is a good location, too. Plus, the tickets run maybe $18/day. They don't get the huge headlining names that Coachella does, but like you and others have said, the Coachella headliners usually stink anyway.
-
for anyone who has been to coachella before..
how long do the headliners typically play for?
i know at bonnaroo the headliners play for a good 2.5 to 3 hour sets
-
its possible that with 3 days, and a proposed change in schedules to avoid too many scheduling conflicts, it could be different this year
but in previous years, headliners get about 90 minutes. i think a couple have gotten 1 hr 45 min, but nothing like the marathon sets Bonnaroo headliners get.
also, in previous years, all 4 other music areas remain active while the headliner is on.
-
crap. im thinking about buying tickets. anyone know which airport its close to? im going to look into airline prices to see if its worth it.

their website is very very helpful, i would suggest going there.
San Diego and LA are (i think) about the same difference (2-3 hours) and there are a couple small airports you can fly into (Ontario and Palm Springs)
either way, you'll probably have to rent a car, too, so think of that. its probably not the festival for the penny-pincher but its probably the best one as far as lineup, venue and crowd...and its a nice vacation!
-
When I went a couple years ago, we flew to L.A., spent a night there, and then left on Saturday late-morning to get to Indio (it was only a 2-day festival then). The drive took well over 4.5 hours because of very heavy traffic in most big city areas of Calif. Traffic into the general area wasn't all that bad. We ended up missing a few bands that we wanted to see. So give yourself a lot of extra time if you're driving there.
Oh, and if you're thinking of camping, the lot is a giant, wide-open space with no shade and lots of dust. When the sun comes up, you'll roast in your tent. The "rules" are strict about no alcohol, etc., and they did check our stuff pretty thoroughly, but you can still sneak in some booze if you're crafty and want to have a nip.
-
fly in to either ontario (cheap but still relatively close) or palm springs (very close but about $100 more, from what i've seen). LAX, SD and orange county = too much extra travel time vs. cost.
no shade in camping area? bring yer own! buy one of those shade tents/gazebo/canopy thingies (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/category.do?cat=55558&bti=0&showAll=true).
-
keep in mind, sweetcell, you get like a 10'x10' area to camp in at Coachella. and everyone is butted right up against one another. this area doesnt include your car (you park that out in the lot) but its still not too much room for any kind of big ass tent/gazebo/awning thingy.
-
sonick, thanks for the reminder. i read that but forgot to mention it. the tent/awning thingy i was looking at was 8'x8'. most of them are 10x10 so they should just fit.
-
Regarding flights, we have always flown SouthWest to LAX from BWI for ~100 per person one way / 200 per person round trip. This is for a direct flight. This is generally cheaper than flying into Palm Springs or Ontario and you dont have to worry about layovers or xfers.
You will need to find a ride or rent a car either way.
Jason

Also keep in mind that this poster has already changed since originally being posted and is bound to change multiple times before the festival takes place. For example, Madonna, Daft Punk, and Kanye (who isn't on the poster) were all added to last year's festival late.
In 2004, Beck was a late addition and never was added to the poster but still played a set.
I'm just saying...
-
just bought my 3-day pass: $287.50, including all fees...*sigh*
luckily i got very cheap airfare into ontario. but with hotel, car rental, food and incidentals, this vacation will clock at just over a grand. good thing i don't do this too often!
-
Think those 3-day passes will last long? I'm the worst ever when it comes to calling shit like this. I got mine during the pre-sale and it looks like I saved around $65. The friend I'm going with still hasn't gotten hers, though.
-
heh, congrats on grabing a pass during the presale. it was the line-up that pushed me on to the bandwagon, so getting a pre-announcement ticket just wasn't on my mind. look at this way: you get an extra 8 beers :)
how long will they last? i wouldn't bet on too long, definitely will sell out. the one-day passes for sunday (RATM) sold out instantly, i've been reading rumblings that folks are buying 3-day passes just for sunday access. unless your friend has a good reason not to (i.e. doesn't have money at the moment), i'd strongly encourage her to grab one asap. if she's committed to going, why wait? why risk it?
if i had to *guess* a sell-out date, i'd give it a week. pure speculation.
maybe we should have a forum party at coachella... met up at the beer tent an hour before the sparklehorse set :)
-
i'm having my own forum party in Baltimore at the Sparklehorse show on March 1st. :)
-
How weird, I am listening to Sparklehorse right now (new album). The last time I saw them was 1999?! I guess they don't like to tour...
-
sonick - if it wasn't a thursday, i'd definitely trek up... ugh, must be strong, resist temptation...
-
If I wasn't going to the Cat's Cradle Sparklehorse show the next night, I'd be at that "forum" party.
-
just bought my 3-day pass: $287.50, including all fees...*sigh*
oh, i see, so you are skipping the Hip show to go out and party in Calfornia???
not very canadian of you, sir! :p
-
i just picked up my 3-day pass. what websites do you all recommend for airlines? i was thinking about booking a flight through orbitz.com, but thought that someone else might have a better option to check out. thanks in advance!
-
sonick - oh shit, i didnt even notice that. DAMN. between that and the muse show, it's taken my excitement down a notch.
ok, it's passed :) anyone need 2 tickets to the tragically hip show at the 930?!? at cost... PM me.
bizou: we got our airfare on delta.com, flying in to ontario, for $240. if that and orbitz don't work for ya, try travelocity.com and sidestep.com. oh, wait, i forgot: the geekiest cheap-flight-finding site evah: http://matrix.itasoftware.com/cvg/dispatch/prego/calendar (http://matrix.itasoftware.com/cvg/dispatch/prego/calendar) = rules
-
sweetie:
i'll take those hip tickets off your hands when i have the cash in a few weeks.
if you still have em then... i'm your huckleberry!
-
sweetcell - thanks for the http://matrix.itasoftware.com/cvg/dispatch/prego/calendar (http://matrix.itasoftware.com/cvg/dispatch/prego/calendar) link
i found flights that were $50 cheaper than orbitz.com!
-
sonick: Calling another guy Sweetie? How gay.
Why not work him down on ticket price? There of no use to him.
-
rhett: you're evil! but you're right, they're of no use to me.
bizou: awesome, you're welcome, you owe me a beer :)
i can always hope that the Hip show is covered by NPR. is there any way to petition them?
-
i am comfortable with my sexuality.
how about you, rhett?
-
Saturday and Sunday single day tickets are sold out. Hmmm...
-
i am comfortable with my sexuality.
how about you, rhett?
I'm comfortable with your sexuality too, Sonick.
-
just picked my plane ticket...$265 after all those pesky charges. how did everyone else do?
-
not bad! i got $240 total, DCA-ONT, 1 connection in ATL. what are you doing for accomodations? i found a motel (with pool!) in indio for $189, 3 miles from venue.
-
Fuckin a... $317 through jet blue. I didn't have much of a choice though; I had an unused ticket to LA from last year that I just had to put another $60 or so on top of.
-
Luckily one of my sisters friends lives in LA, so I'll be staying there for free.
I got my tickets off of orbitz.com. The prices vary from day to day, but I've noticed that they are cheaper on Tuesdays/Wednesdays.
-
you're going to drive back and forth from LA each day?!? depending where in LA, it's 1.5 to 2.5 hours away - without traffic, of which there will be plenty during the festival. might be do-able if you leave each day before the end of the last act (i.e. avoid the rush), otherwise... hope you're good at sleeping in cars and the driver isn't.
-
yeah i dont know how its going to work out. let's just say i wont be driving.
-
For people who dont mind flying into LAX you can fly roundtrip from BWI to LAX on Southwest for 200 per person non stop. Add a cheap rental car (which is easy to do on a weekend in LA) or find a ride and you can probably save money over all the Orbitz/Expedia/whatever deals.
-
Of Montreal added 4/27
-
EDIT: Coachella 3 day pass is sold out :)
-
wow.
you can still get a one-day pass for friday. but all 3-day passes are gone. i'm willing to bet that a lot of SoCal folks ended up buying 3-day passes just for sunday.
better start now to mentally prepare myself for a weekend among the masses. very large masses.
-

wow, it's been over a month since this thread has seen any activity, i had to go back 8 or 9 pages to find it.

ONLY 16 DAYS TO GO!!! i know that Joe M, azaghal and myself are in... anyone else? bnyced0?
my major concern is dealing with heat during the day and cold in the evening nights - how to pull it off clothes-wise without it being too much of a hassle... layers, i know, layers, but i'm not looking forward to dragging a jacket and long pants with me in a backpack. how hot and cold does it typically get? do we need to get in to survival mode here?
-
I've been wondering the same things re:clothes.
-
i'll be wearing sleeveless shirts, loose shorts, and comfy shoes :)
-
joe: but won't you be cold at night?
-
ummm, i don't think it will be cold at night...
hmmm...lemme ask the coachella board...
-
Friend was hell-bent on camping. And I hate the cold more than just about anything.
-
does anyone know if there are buses from long beach to indio for the shows?
-
ok, i've said this before, but i'll restate.
WATCH THE FORECAST!
i've gone 3 times and it was different every time.
year 1, i wore shorts and tees and it got down to like 55 at night. a bit chilly!
year 2, i brought a hoodie to wear at night and it was 107 all day and dropped to a chilly 90 at night, so i carried around a hoodie for nothin.
year 3 was perfect, 100 during the day, 75 at night. :)
the point is, if its going to break 100, bring a long sleeve white shirt or something. its the desert, remember to cover up. i was amazed to actually be COOLER with a long sleeve shirt than a tee when the temps soared.
say, if it was this weekend.. you're looking at 81 as a high, 60 as a low...so just bring a hoodie and you'll be toasty til midnight!
wow, 88 degrees at Coachella! fucking perfect weather!
-
Cut Chemist just added, 4/29! It'd be nice to see a Cut Chemist/DJ Shadow collab on stage!

Yeh I'm in, I haven't missed one yet and not going to start now. I'm flying in on Thursday night to escort some Brits from LA to Indio. It's been a mixed bag on the weather, the first coachella was in October and mild, but has been in late april/early may ever since and the weather has been scorching til about dusk then cool (not cold) until close. I've gotten to the point where I normally don't enter until about 4 or 5 pm, over the year I see most of these acts and sweatin it out all day into the night has lost it's luster. I normally bring an extra shirt/pullover in a back pack. Can't imagine ever needing pants though, between rockin out or dancing legs are usually in motion.
-
Just got this today and thought I'd share it for those going.

uhhh it says that its 'SECRET' and you will be told day of. my guess is the buses are leaving from indio, but it says all over. as its part of coachella (filter is in LA), the buses should be leaving from all over the area. but hell if i know. im just sharing it all :)
hell id rsvp just for the sake of it :) filter typically has some great shows that it promotes.

I went last year, it's sort of like the same thing they do at Cedar Street during SXSW, the buses left the Marriott in Indian Wells but they may change. There is free booze, but like Austin if you're not there early you're shit out of luck...except they have a pay bar standing by in case you don't want the free stuff and/or after it's gone. I can't remember who played, but it was worth it if you're already there but I wouldn't go early for it. Depending on your stamina I'd be leary flying all the way from here, going all out on Thursday and still having 3 days/nights of festival...I know I'm starting to sound old, but I suppose that's because I am.
If you didn't receive the original email from Filter then you put down who forwarded it to you if they did. If you're more than 2 people removed, no clue.
-
Assuming you just put down "no affiliation" if you don't have any.
Would this be worth trying to make if you're getting into longbeach at around 8:30 PM and going out to the festival site that night?

It'll be tight, if you're not landing til 8:30 between getting luggage, car, and on your way to Indio, and check in to your hotel, it would be a miracle if you could make it before the busses stop running out to the fest at 11. You're at least a 120 miles from Indio when you fly into LGB, so that's a couple of hours alone.

I can do JAMC>Sonic Youth>Bjork with no conflicts. Awesome.
-
God, that is what can suck about Coachella...Sonic Youth would win out, but I would still love to see Interpol. Am shocked that Interpol are playing after JAMC though.
-
azaghal, only issue for me would be missing gogol bordello... while bjork might be a good show, several thousand people freaking out to gypsy punk is a guaranteed good time :) i hope the mojave tent isn't too far from the main stage, so i can catch half of each without losing too much time in between.
joe, where did you get this set-time info? it's not on the main coachella site.
-
Yeah that is a good point. And I've never seen Gogol Bordello. I'll try to catch some of their set if it's close enough.
-
Actually it's an unofficial one. I got it from:
http://catdirtsez.blogspot.com/ (http://catdirtsez.blogspot.com/)
but, the schedule doesn't sound right...

I wouldn't put too much stock in that considering it's missing one of the tents (Gobi) and calls the Saraha Tent the dance tent. Also, it's the Outdoor Theater, not the Side Stage.
-
Anyone hear anything else about that filter party after getting the automated response?
-
nope, haven't heard anything since the auto-reply. not that i really care, unless God is DJ'ing i'll probably skip it.

Yeh, I think it's likely Arctic Monkeys will play the outdoor theater, while SY will be on the mainstage, and Faithless will close their tent partially conflicting with Bjork unfortunately.
-
Well there's the email. Doubt I'd be able to make it in time.
-
Comedians of Comedy (Jasper Redd, Brent Weinbach, Howard Kremer, Aziz Ansari, Hard'n'Phirm, Maria Bamford, Zach Galifianakis, Brian Posehn, Patton Oswalt)will play the Gobi Tent 4/27 from 2-4:30 pm.
-
Set times are now up!!!
Click here: http://www.coachella.com/event/set-times (http://www.coachella.com/event/set-times)
Unfortunately, Gogol Bordello AND DJ Shadow will overlap with Bjork (the unofficial set times I posted a couple days ago is pretty much accurate!) :(
-
OMG. i am going to be so HADD in the desert... too much good music going on at the same time. i have no idea how i'm going to pull it all off, inevitably i'm going to skip some of my current choices.
minor gripe: i would have preferred a few less bands and slightly longer sets from the "headliner" acts.

Yeh, there are some nasty one's this year. It's funny I'll travel just about anywhere to see SY but I can't sleep on Faithless as I believe they'll have a quieter Daft P acclaim this year and there's probably something wrong with me if I see SY more than 12 times in 12 months.

Sonic Youth vs. Faithless vs. Interpol
Faithless wins, I agree. And I imagine they are better suited in a large setting! I hope the crowd goes ballistic when that song "Insomnia" plays!@!

Interpol is stalking me this year, they're playing at least five other festivals I'm attending before Labour day so they were never really in the running for Coachella. I've only seen Faithless twice, once at Brixton Academy and once a V Fest (original in Chelmsford), amazing both times and no-shit if I would have had to choose between them and Daft Punk prior to Coachella last year I would have. I had only seen Daft Punk in a club in LA about a decade ago, it was good but nothing like the brain drubbing I took in Indio and Buenos Aires last year.

Hilarious that super lame Tiesto gets top billing over RHCP.

Merely playing last on the mainstage isn't considered "top billing." Talib Kweli/Mos Def (impromtu Blackstar reunion) played the mainstage LAST after Radiohead in 2004. Chemical Brothers closed the mainstage over the headliner Bjork in 2002, And finally Underworld played after Beck in 1999. Sometimes the "headliner" asks for an earlier time, other times Paul puts a dance act to close out the night to take advantage of the extra space, and great view.
-
I see.

Not to nitpick, but Blackstar actually closed out the festival on Sunday night of Coachella 2005, after Nine Inch Nails. Radiohead in '04 was odd because they finished their set around 10:45 and no one came onto the mainstage after them (Wilco had cancelled, and they weren't replaced). Kraftwerk played in the Sahara Tent that night after Radiohead though, maybe that's what you were thinking of.

Please nitpick, I was just pulling shit out of my old brain, on the fly, so it was inevitable I was going to get some of the 7 years mixed up. But the point is still that it's not uncommon that the "headliner" doesn't close out the mainstage but still retains top billing. But in the quest for correctness I'll try to do better in getting my facts together before posting and don't have any problem being called on it, would have done it myself.
