the only good bands i can think of from jersey are stoner rock bands. hoboken had a great jangle-rock scene in the '80s.

Is there a crappier state in America east of the Mississippi? I think not. Though they do have a great nude beach. However, the music is unbeatable.

goddamn you are good, a quote for those who don't want to wade through it:

" (Oh, and would people please stop calling Fountains a New Jersey band? "That's the biggest misconception about us," Schlesinger laughs. "No one in the band actually lives in New Jersey.") "

Hoboken is technically NJ, but scene-wise it's NYC.  I think TMBG & Rosenbergs are also there. Otherwise there's:
 Misfits
 Electric Frankenstein
 Insomniacs
Swinging Neckbreakers- lead singer is a Trenton NJ postman- his hub was the one that processed those anthrax letters
