Tis excellent can avoid CYHSY and the Killers by bouncing between stages and missing parts of a couple sets....
-
rename the clubhouse tent: the only tent to be!
-
now with Raconteurs and Gnarles back to back will we see them do the Crazy song together?
and is safe to assume that neko isn't touring with the new pronographers at the moment?
-
clap your hands and say yeah changed their name to turd party - now with peanuts.

neko didnt even play with the new pornos in chicago at lolla when they had an almost headlining set.
-
my thoughts on the schedule.
I am unhappy unhapppy. but i know the show cant be made for me.
the 5 bands i wanted to see, New Pornos, the Who, Scissor Sisters, Raconteurs and Wolfmother seem to be playing all together.
i can pick either NPs OR Raconteurs/Wolfmother during the day, but the 2 of those 5 that i've never seens (s.sisters and the who) are tougher.
and then from 3-5 i could care less where i am.
(i know i know Gnarls is playing at 4pm but i have seen Gnarls already and it bored me to tears)
-
How close together are the stages?
I'ma be doin' some walking.
-
i will say that the Flaming Lips closing against the Chili Peppers is concert scheduling GENIUS and i want to kiss Seth for doing that.

sadly . . . i think the rhcp will win out against the lips. the lip's last album way failed in comparison to the rhcp's. god, i hate to say that. and people only go to shows based on what the last album was.
the real note to strive for, is the confused looks on the all the kids faces, with their panic! at the asshole and muse shirts on, when the who take the stage. how many times will you hear, "like, my parents listened to these guys. let's go pay $20 for a bottle of water, and a vegan burrito."

Au contraire. This is an issue for me. I've heard the Flaming Lips put on a nice lil' show. On top of that, any cat (Wayne? is the lead sungers name) with a fuckin' hamster wheel is most def on some rock & roll shit, so they're alright with me. But miss the Chili Peppers for that???? FUCK NO . . . .
I hope the schedules run late so I can catch the Lips . . . .

Isnt there a third stage with some local bands as well?
-
third stage with local bands: not that i've heard of.
there is a third "venue" for "music", the dance tent... now this i just don't understand. methinks that the audience interested in those DJs probably wouldn't pay $97.50+ to see them - therefore the dance tent won't sell many additional tickets on its own. might influence a few people on the fence ("dude, the killers AND tiesto?!? now i gotta go!"), but probably not enough to justify the crazy amounts of money that tent will require in artists' fees. thoughts?

Well - there is some crossover with the early DJ's and the indie crowd (RJD2 and 2 Many DJ's) I know a kid that is paying just to see 2 Many DJ's - kinda silly, but yeah.

wait, am i reading this right? there is an extra fee for the dance tent at v-fest?
-
you're reading that wrong. no extra fees.
my point: the dance tent won't attract many people so organizers could have saved $ by not having it while not losing many ticket buyers.
on the otherhand, the tent does increase musical variety, which is the point of the festival.

i know at least 5 people that bought tickets solely for the DJ tent and have no plans to check out any of the other bands...
-
that DJ Lineup is a pretty sick DJ lineup. i mean, yeah, people pay $40 just to see Tiesto in some crowded ass nightclub.
i'd like to catch some of 2 many DJs, but dont have plans to see any of the other DJs.
but yeah, i know 2 people who are going just to hear James Holden!
-

yeah, i think you're slightly underestimating the audience for these acts. swing by that tent in the evening and i guarantee you it will be crowded with people not knowing/giving a shit about the who/rhcp/flaminglips/etc.
and i'm not even a DJ person like that, i'm more into the live bands too... but you have a line-up of 4-5(?) DJs that usually play 4-6 hour sets, compacting their set into an hour and a half. that tent will be 10 hours of straight bombs i'm sure.
some of the best times i had at coachella was checking out some DJ i never heard of but lured us in while we grabbed a bite to eat or went to the bathroom close to the DJ tent..
-
so, supposedly VHS or Beta will be playing a DJ set somewhere else (not on any of the 3 main stages) at 5pm.
and while this doesnt sound all that kickass, it is. I saw VHS or Beta do a DJ set at Lollapalooza and its great.
they are like a disco house DJ who then decides to play some punk songs and what not.
if you arent a killers/brazillian girls fan, i highly recommend VHS or Beta.

My thoughts: you'd be crazy to miss RJD2. Great great show.
-
cool, thanks for the input on the dance tent's popularity. i doubt i'll spend much time there, but good to know that it wasn't the questionable idea i thought it might be.
also: on the VFest "Artists" page, there's a handy-dandy PDF version (http://www.virginfestival.com/images/VirginFestival_Schedule-1069.pdf) of the day's schedule, suitable for printing. looking at it made it much easier to plan my day.

What does that tell you about the diversity of your friendships?

I go to Birchmere for the food.
-
Neko Case was with the New Pronos at the Austin City Limits show, but I can't find any mention for her being with the band for V fest.
-
ugh, I don't like the schedule either. Matching Tiesto against the Lips sucks, they are the two acts I want to see most, and then of course I can't see any RHCP if I try to do the other 2. First part of the day is a lot easier for me, except I wish Digweed weren't at the same time as Braz Girls and Thievery...want to catch all 3 of them.
-
here's where my maple leaf ass will be all day..
12pm - 12:50 - Kasabian
1:35pm - 230pm - New Pornos
2:30pm - 3:15pm - 2many DJs
3:15pm - 4pm - Clap your hands say yeah
4pm - 5:15pm - ummm, 75 minutes of rest!
5:15pm - 6:15pm - the killers
6:45pm - 7:45pm - the Who
8pm - 8:35pm - Scissor Sisters
9pm - 10pm - flaming lips

Assuming it doesn't rain, my hairy ass will be at Rehoboth Beach. Unless someone wants to give us two free tickets.

This decision just got a little easier; DJ Tiesto cancelled due to illness. There's a press release on the Virgin Festival website.
-
Whoa...if Neko plays with the Porns then methinks the decisions are going to be tough for many.
After seeing the VFest in Toronto, I would make a strong recommendation to catch Wolfmother, if only for 10-15 minutes. Really fun to watch and I don't think they'll be doing any headlining DC area shows.

Just saw that too. His illness sounds pretty awful, hope he recovers. Very cool that Carl Cox and Digweed get to play extended sets, should be tight.
