For a while it was Most Secret Method, but then they broke up. Anyone remember them? For now Trans Am and The Apes will do.

Hmm...I like Phaser a lot. WSC and Metropolitan are both pretty good....hmmm, favorite local band eh? Ummmm..... despite the occasional interferences in my life, up to and including my oh so fabulous trip to Kansas this weekend, Exit Clov it is !!!
-
I'm with Thirsty. Most Secret Method were great. And lord knows I'm discuss the Apes until my face turns blue.

no, really. i miss black eyes. so i guess i would say them if they still existed.
-
I kind of like Weird War after seeing them open for the Walkmen. Of course, that could just be in comparison to their TERRIBLE set...

metropolitan
the caribbean
the positions
the aquarium
and a bunch more i can't remember right now
-
I don't like any.
-
The good ones are either defunct or dead.
-
if you inclued baltimore bands i've several local favorites.
one of my dc favs is The Cassettes.
just hear of The Caribbean and think that have a unique (http://www.thecaribbeanisaband.com/) way of promoting thier product.

I just picked up their CD at Joe's. Nice stuff. They don't play out a lot though - do they?

they are all in other bands, local bands, but still, I imagine it is hard to schedule shows
-
yeah cassettes members are both in decahedron and metropolitan as well
-
q and not u
and d-plan and black eyes, but I don't think they count.

jeeze, how's that for bifurcated tastes?
my local faves in no order:
hidden hand
canyon before brandan butler left the group
carrion would make the list if they played around here more often
-
i'm in agreement with ikarus here. the hidden hand are awesome, and canyon was really onto something (but now that brandon butler's out of the band, it ain't gonna be the same).
carrion kicked ass, but they broke up a couple of months ago.
dead meadow are probably my favorite local band, followed by:
thee snuff project
(sounds of) kaleidoscope
fugazi
wooly mammoth
the apes
mikroknytes
orthrelm
-
i got one......strawman
i'm just messing with you fuck a strawman
yeah for the apes!!!!
-
orthrelm is a definite yes
oh lordy
orthrelm + me = :)
they fucking rule but i wonder if the guitarist knows any chords at all?
ponder on that while i stick it in you
-
I once saw a band called Speedwell at the Blackcat. They seemed pretty solid.
-
If you're counting bands that are no longer, I'd have to say Dismemberment Plan. Otherwise it would be Tone, Phaser, Trans Am, and Washington Social Club.
-
i guess i would say wsc but have only seen them once so maybe they were really good that show, I think have seen Dead Meadow more than any other band, local or not, so I could go with them as well
and I really like the carlsonics' album, but have only seen them once as well and it was not as good as the album

Majority Rule, Q and Not U, Fugazi, Exosus, El Guapo, Pietasters, Shakedowns.
-
Beauty Pill is beauti-ful!
http://www.alex.to/doomlink (http://www.alex.to/doomlink)
-
I used to like The Urban Verbs.....many moons ago....
-
Fugazi goes without saying, except for the fact that I just said it...
Jimmie's Chicken Shack is still a rockin' bunch of righteous musicians so I'd have to say them - I'm surprised no one else has. I wish they'd play 9:30 this summer before I go back to school.
- Are Ted Leo & the Pharmacists still considered local? They're pretty sweet live. BOOK 'EM 9:30!
- And yeah, it's real trendy right now to rip Good Charlotte, man. They work hard and I'ma put a vote in for them if no one else think's it's 'cool' to do so. They certainly beat out shitty bands like 'Greenleo'
-
fugazi
-
Social Club
-
Washington Social Club, by far.
The Carlsonics
The Nighties (R.I.P.)
But I need to get out and listen to more local stuff...for one, looks like I need to give Beauty Pill a second chance. Saw the at Fort Reno and I was uninspired...
-
poem-cees
-
Actually my real favourite is Your Pal (Pete Wright)
Who may or may not be playing at Staccato on Friday.
-
Why aren't more of you saying CLUTCH?
-
CLUTCH !!!.........and Phaser

Oh, yeah! I loved them.
And how can we forget from back in the day, The Talking Heads!? But it's really only their earlier works that I really like, specifically, the 1st album.
Phaser (of course) except the new demo clips on their site kinda suck. They seem to have taken the worst parts of their worst new songs to upload. The new songs they've played the last couple times are much better than those.
The Slickee Boys
The Wanktones
Skywave
Can we claim Lilys? They would be on my list too. That guy moves so much that I'm not sure who gets them.
(I know I'm missing some as we are lucky enough to have so many.)
