Someone had to do it :D  I'm incredibly psyched for this show, judging from what has been said by people on the Darkness message board, Justin's voice is working perfectly and the shows have been real tight. There's even been a new song or two thrown in the setlist at each concert. So who else is goin'? (And who all isn't going that's gonna heckle us that are?)

I'll be there.

Man, skeet, you must be TIRED! Did you at least take last night off??
-
Nope - last night was Dylan at the Warner. Darkness tomorrow, then I'm done with shows until Saturday.
-
I'll be there ... but unlike The Darkness I will not be wearing spandex. ;)

seems to me the only good reason for attending a Darkness show would be the chance to wear spandex...

So, y'all who went, do tell! Any fake blood? Did band members keep their carefully selected clothing on their waifish bodies?
Inquiring minds want to know!
-
No. It was a straight-forward rock show. No props or special effects.
And it was phenomenal. The most fun I've ever had at a live show.

Agreed.
It was utterly over-the-top, indulgent and wankerific. There were lighters flickering even before they took the stage. Women's undergarments were cast onto the stage. Justin did more wardrobe changes than Cher.
It was great theatre.

I thought it pretty much rocked like crazy. I went into it pretty much blind. I don't know any of their songs, other than seeing half of their video and spending about 2 minutes at a Tower listening station.
The place was packed early. I got there at about 9:15 (they came on around 10:00) and there was barely enough space to get into the main room. The crowd was loving it. Lots of fist-pumping, hand-clapping, even a few lighters. Everyone singing along, which was pretty funny to hear - 1000 people singing in this ridiculous falsetto.
The stage was very simple, but they had a giant wall of lights behind them that blinded everyone periodically. Lots of banter with the crowd. Lots of call-response stuff. Several body-suit changes. Points to the guitarist for sporting a Thin Lizzy t-shirt. During the encore the singer got on someone's shoulders and paraded through the crowd.
As for the music...well...they sort of sounded like Iron Maiden mixed with the pop sensibility of Cheap Trick, with a little bit swagger a la the New York Dolls thrown in.
I really don't care for their music, but they put on a helluva show. It reminded me a lot of the big arena shows in the early 80's. The ones at the Capital Centre when half of my high school would show up, get trashed off of 3 beers and turn it into a huge party.
It's good to see some folks having a good ol' rock 'n' roll time again. That seems to be lost at a lot of shows today. I think that in itself makes this band fairly endearing, even if you don't like their sound.
I'm glad I went. I'm glad it was cheap. I doubt I'd go again.

I drove by as they were loading out and saw the tour bus pull away. It was fantastic. But no, I didn't see the show :)

The show was OUTSTANDING. I agree with whoever made the point about 1000 fans trying to sing falsetto - that was pretty hilarious. They put on a great show though, I'm so glad I went. The Wildhearts were awesome as well. Overall, a rocktastic evening.
-
i was wondering about the wildhearts, their record is Swagger(tm) approved

I went to the show out of curiosity. And I have to say that I was thoroughly entertained. It was a hell of a fun night. Justin was a hilarious frontman and his tip-toeing, high step dance made me laugh every time. I agree with all of Skeeter's sentiments (falsetto singing crowd, people just having a good time, not normally my style of music -indeed!). I do have to add (no offense, Emmie) that I didn't really like The Wildhearts. They, unfortunately, felt dated.
-
it was sheer rawk perfection.
i have never, in my many years of going to shows at the 9:30, seen a crowd as happy and participatory as the darkness crowd. i loved the darkness before and i love them more after the show. i would go on, but really all that needs to be said is the darkness = brilliance.
as for the wildhearts...ditto what kurosawa said. they were...cliched.
-
and before anyone says how cliched the darkness are...there's a difference. the wildhearts are cliched in a bad way. the darkness are campily cliched in a good way. in my humble opinion, anyway.
