Title: THE EVENS
Post by: jmascis on June 17, 2004, 07:05:00 pm
Has anyone seen them yet? I am a big Ian Mackaye fan (named my first born after him). But haven't heard their music yet. They are playing June 29 at someplace called mission space??. Any one know where this is in Baltimore, Daniel Higgs (another Fav) is also appearing as well.

Mission Space (http://www.missiontix.com/index.cfm?venue=-ms)

it's a small, intimate space in downtown baltimore. should be a cool show.

I saw AmAnSet at Mission Space -- it was cool.  It's really small, so it'll probably be packed.

As for the Evens -- I think they are a little uneven. The fast songs sound great, kinda like acoustic Fugazi.  The slow songs don't sound so great in my opinion.

I saw them at Coachella. I left after two songs. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Quoting from my write-up for the webzine Randomville (http://www.randomville.com/article/3/52.html):

The Evens ?? This band of two includes Ian MacKaye (guitar), known from Fugazi and Dischord Records, and Amy Farina (drums) from the Warmers. Craig and I were looking forward to checking out one of the bands representing the DC music scene. Sadly, all we could say was ??Meh.? The best part of the set was when Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers came on stage for 15 seconds to play a trumpet part during ??On the Face of It.? We left after a couple of songs.

I liked them at the Warehouse next door. I guess GGW wasn't completely thrilled, but I thought their set was well done from start to finish. It's not Fugazi, so just get over it and open your mind.
