last time wilco was at 930 club they brought along Detholz, one of the worst openers of all time
 
 you'd think that a band as huge as wilco could scare up some great young band to bring on tour ... maybe tweedy doesn't want the spotlight stolen from him

I've seen Melomane, several years ago at the Velvet Lounge, and while I can't remember them all that well after all this time, they were good enough that I signed up for their mailing list.  The one thing I remember is they did a cover of Men at Work's "Overkill" that I liked better than the original song.
 
 It's not a bad idea to avoid being narrow-minded about the opening band.  Once in a while something comes along that may take you by surprise, unless you're a small-minded lout who will only make time for the bands you're already programmed to worship, and from time to time there's even an opening band that is actually better than the headliner.
