Title: Panic on the streets of London ...
Post by: HoyaSaxa03 on July 07, 2005, 12:32:00 pm
Panic on the streets of London
Panic on the streets of Birmingham
 I wonder to myself
Could life ever be sane again ?
The Leeds side-streets that you slip down
 I wonder to myself
Hopes may rise on the Grasmere
But Honey Pie, you're not safe here
 So you run down
To the safety of the town
But there's Panic on the streets of Carlisle
 Dublin, Dundee, Humberside
 I wonder to myself

It's really awful.  And the prob with the Smiths song is it starts a sunny melody in my head during an intense and worrisome day.  I double-checked my 'emergency bag' this morning.  I drank the water...

So, anyone think this was G8 motivated, or Olympic announcement, or just when the terrorists got their shit together?

Not that I want to impress the board myself, just out of curiosity, do you use econometrics at work?

I run a lot of regression models.  Factor-based risk models; expected returns, and the like.

Panic: Durban Riots, interracial conflict between Zulus and Indians in Durban, South Africa, in January 1949. In January 1949 a bitter racial conflict occurred in Durban. The consequent loss of life and property was officially given as follows: deaths; 142 (87 Africans, 50 Indians, 1 white and 4 others whose identity could not be determined); injured; 1 087 (541 Africans, 503 Indians, 11 Coloureds and 32 whites; of the injured 58 died); buildings destroyed: 1 factory, 58 stores and 247 dwellings; buildings damaged: 2 factories, 652 stores and 1 285 dwellings.

So Morrissey was singing about Durban? No matter that the other places he sings about are all in the UK or Ireland?

A simple google search with say, Dublin Dundee Humberside versus Durban Dundee Humberside, should be quite revealing.

I still believe you are profound.

Can you imagine spending every waking moment of your entire life conspiring/studying/planning how to murder massive numbers of innocent people in the name of Allah?

Hope the suicide bomber/bastard's "virgins in Heaven" turn out to be ugly crack whores who are sitting around in thongs, eating bacon sandwiches when he arrives.

Too bad these clever hateful morons can't take all this energy and time, go back to their third-world countries, and figure out how to run real economies, uplift, educate and care for their own people, instead of blaming the Christian/Jews for their "plight". What a miserable bunch of fucks.

No, it's a monarchy that's designed to glorify and benefit the wealthy royalty, and enslave the poor.  If you took away their oil, it's an impoverished, elitist hell-hole. Their version of Islam is particularly fucked up. Who do you think is protecting these terrorist cells?  By focusing the militant's misery and anger on outside enemies, the royal family keeps dissent from their own doorsteps.

It was a "figure of speech" and not a lesson in international economic scaling.  Don't even try to defend these bombings to me.  There's NO excuse.  It is a horrible strategy that furthers NO agenda.  I condemn abortion clinic bombers too.

Do you think that they are trying to say something?  It seems to impart something like this, "There is no God but ours, and if you don't agree...talk to the sword, girlfriend."

What if the U.S. wrote on it's flag "There is no allah, but The Lord, and Jesus is His prophet," then added a Bowie knife at the bottom?

 Not very PC, that.

Except that flag says "There is no god but  God ... allah and Allah.  allah is simply the word for god/God in arabic.  Koran holds that it's the exact same god as in the Judaeo-Christian tradition.

Ellis: sometimes you come across as quite the dim bulb.

 -----------

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored,
He has loosed the fateful lightening of His terrible swift sword
 His truth is marching on.

 Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
 Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
 Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
 His truth is marching on.

I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps
They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps
l can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps
 His day is marching on.

 Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
 Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
 Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
 His truth is marching on.

I have read a fiery gospel writ in burnish`d rows of steel,
 As ye deal with my contemners, So with you my grace shall deal;
Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with his heel
 Since God is marching on.

 Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
 Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
 Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
 His truth is marching on.

He has sounded form the trumpet that shall never call retreat
He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment-seat
Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet!
 Our God is marching on.

 Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
 Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
 Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
 His truth is marching on.

In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me:
As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free,
 While God is marching on.

 Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
 Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
 Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
 His truth is marching on.

Green is a traditional Islamic color which is linked to the prophet Mohammad who founded Islam and to the Fatimid dynasty. The white text, called the Shahada, is the Muslim Statement of Faith. It translates in English to "There is no God but Allah and Mohammad is the Prophet of Allah." The sword is a symbol of justice and represents Abdul Aziz ibn Saud who was the first Saudi King.

The BBC has this to say about Hirsi Ali (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/3322399.stm)(Note: pronounced like Kirstie Alley):

"I wish I could go back, and I would love to go back, even if it's just to see my parents and brother.

But I can't go back, because the situation is that I have said things about the Islamic religion, [...] I have said things about the Prophet Mohammed and his message about women.
 -----
 Whereas, the Islamic media sez:

 Kirstie Alley (http://www.islamonline.net/English/News/2003-01/27/article09.shtml) said, quote
The Prophet Mohammed was a 'despotic, narrow-minded and violent' man, who killed whoever stood in his way.  She further alleged that the Prophet (peace be upon him) was against the freedom of women, since, she claimed, he ordered them not to leave their houses, wear the veil and denied them the right to work and inheritance..."
