Gas drops below $3, but not in D.C.
Jeff Clabaugh
Staff Reporter
The average price for a gallon of gasoline dropped below $3 per gallon in the Washington area for the first time since Hurricane Katrina sent prices soaring.
Prices in The District, however, remain above $3 a gallon -- still the highest in the nation.
The mid-Atlantic AAA's daily gasoline price survey says the average price for regular in the Washington area fell to $2.91 per gallon Tuesday. That's down 32 cents per gallon from the record high, $3.23, set here Sept. 6.
Washington-area gasoline prices are still about 12 cents higher than the national average. And in the District, at $3.08 cents per gallon, the price is still the highest in the continental United States.
Prices could head higher again as Hurricane Rita heads toward the Gulf of Mexico again threatening to disrupt supplies.

I found it rather odd the other week that all of the pricey gas stations in downtown Bethesda were actually lower in price than all of the stations that I saw anywhere in Baltimore. Maybe I should rephrase that as in that the Baltimore stations were even higher than those in downtown Bethesda. During that time, I made sure that I boycotted my local gas gougers and bought my gas in Bethesda.
Since then, it's adjusted itself from the last I've seen with it being a few cents lower in Baltimore but still well over $3/gallon. At least, in all of the areas that I drove through.

I noticed the same thing. Usually gas in Bethesda is about 20 cents more expensive than gas in Silver Spring. A couple weeks ago it was actually about 30 cents cheaper in Bethesda. Of course I realized this too late. :(

gas is usually 20 cents cheaper just across the fairfax county line. our metro area municipalities tax the shit out of it i think.
[omg did i just admit i lived in fairfax co??? --- oh the shame!]

here's a question... who in this area is STUPID enough to buy gas in DC...
HELLO???... drive 10-20 minutes in one direction and go to either MD or VA. It's cheaper.. ALWAYS.
-
Residents of DC are far to important and superior to lower themselves to venture out to the suburbs.

Who is stupid enough to drive 10-20 minutes to save $1.50?
