Title: Win 700 CDs
Post by: ggw on April 13, 2004, 10:51:00 am
Win A Crapload of Modern Rock
It's quite possibly the biggest giveaway we've ever done! We've been collecting copies of nearly every new CD we've played since the turn of the century, and it's taking up too much freakin' room. Everything's gotta go.

Get registered before April 30th to win a "Crapload of Modern Rock" -- an audio snapshot of the best alternative music of the millennium thus far. At over 700 discs, it's the CD blowout of the century... literally.

Crap is probably the operative word here.

Looking at their playlist, maybe 8 in 10 of what they play is crap.

And the stuff they're giving away is probably the crap stuff, not the good stuff.

One person's crap is another person's gold.  Hence my $1 Hoodoo Gurus purchase yesterday.

I'm probably closer to 5/10 on Woxy.

I'm probably closer to 5/10 on kexp. 50% crap, 35% tolerable, 15% good or better.

Wow, people still whine when music is free, if you don't want it, give it away.

700 X 15% = 105 good or better cds.

 Quit bitching.

Hence my forum swap idea!  Hell, I've got a couple hundred of my own CDs I should swap, now that most of it's on my computer....

For Rhett, Popmatters reviewed your current darling, Slaid Cleaves,  today. (http://www.popmatters.com/music/reviews/c/cleavesslaid-wishbones.shtml) Reading that review I'm wondering why I didn't see you at the John Prine show at Warner a coupla weeks ago...  :p

Right on Bags! - I've got a box of stuff that I think of as my "to trade" stash. When I finally do make it over to one of the used dealers, they always make me show I.D. since it looks like I'm selling my roommate's entire collection.

For instance...a random grab into the box reveals this little 'gem':
System of A Down - Toxicity.
AMG says "Hands down one of 2001's top metal releases, Toxicity may well prove to be a lasting heavy metal classic to boot."

 Any takers?    :D

Maybe because Prine was $40 or so and 25 years past his prime, and Cleaves was a free instore at Borders? Not a big fan of either of them, but I find Cleaves more listenable.
