You can get presale tix here (http://www.decemberists.tickets.musictoday.com/Decemberists/calendar.aspx). I got mine!
Check out the rest of the dates here (http://decemberists.com/dates.html). Quite the extensive tour schedule!
-
Saw that...I'm wondering if the show will sell out fast, though, so I can not spend the $4 per ticket.
-
I just returned from my local Starbucks, where they were spinning the Decemberists. Can an appearance on the O.C. be far behind?
-
wow, the decemberists are now a presale-worthy band? who knew.
-
If people are paying $55 for a Devo ticket, anything is possible.

Have you ever seen Devo in concert? How do you know they aren't worth $55?
I saw them on every tour up until 1984. Even when the newer material weren't quite up to snuff with their earlier material, the shows were still great and some of the best I ever went to.
And since your hung up on stats. 0f the sevens post 1981 releases with all 2.5 stars or less ratings on Allmusic. Three of those were releases only a fan would care for... a live record, a collection of material taken from a cd-rom game and mukaz versions of thier own material.
While "Shout" and "Oh No It's Devo" aren't up to snuff with early stuff, partly as the Allmusic review points out because the bands innovative synthpop sound had gone mainstream by then and the band was trying to fit in with a slicker sound, they are still good records which just lack the irony, innovation and edge of their earlier stuff.
-
In all truthfulness, I would never pay $55 to see any band, particularly any club show. And if forced to at gunpoint, Devo would be pretty low on the list of choices. To me, they were an 80's novelty act, nothing more.
But I guess people can overpay for anything they wish. I (over)pay more than $55 to see one NASCAR race per year.

hardly a novelty act...
-
how many bands called Devo are there?
<img src="http://www.bbc.co.uk/totp2/features/wallpaper/images/1024/devo.jpg" alt=" - " />
-
and what they wore was any different the the costumes The Sex Pistols wore? it set them apart from loads of other bands didn't it which was the point.
-
yeah the sex pistols were even more of a novelty act. They had one album and a svengali.
But at least they all didnt take the stage wearing the same outfit. And if they had that outfit probably would not have been a yellow rubber biohazard suit and sunglasses.
-
The Decemberists may be pre-sale worthy, but it didn't take long to change the thread topic.

see, while it's highly unlikely i'd pay $55 for any band myself, if i was going to shell out that kind of cash i'd be a lot more likely to do it for a club show than an arena/amphitheater show. like, i personally wouldn't pay $75 for al green, but for those that did, at least they got to be up close and personal instead of with 12,000 other folks.
-
I'd be more inclined to pay $55 for a show at a non-smoking venue where I could sit down in a seat near the front/center of the stage, not be crowded or stood in front of, at a venue with good acoustics. That probably would not be a 12,000 seater that you refer to.
And where is it that Al Green can pull in 12,000 people to a ticketed show in 2005?

Yeah, I heard "The Sporting Life" being played at The Gap, as well as The Go! Team's "Ladyflash". wtf??
Not too proud to admit that I was in The Gap, but I just got some new white undershirts, and was looking for some nice polos to wear over top... :D
-
al green obviously can't draw that, i'm just saying that i don't understand why people justify spending more money on a show at a bigger venue when that's likely to be a less enjoyable experience, overall.
-
I guess not everyone considers a clubgoing experience to be as enjoyable as you (and others) do.

Perhaps you just suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder from getting whacked in the head with a bottle?

Yeah, that doesn't make sense to me either. I'd pay more to see a band in a smaller venue. Saw the Pixies at Merriweather for $40. I would definitely pay $55, probably more, to see them at a place like the 9:30
-
A couple Decemberists songs are on rotation at Nordstrom...
Anyone know anyhting about Sonar in Baltimore?
-
what did u wanna know about the one in Sonar? They're playing at Sonar, did u want to know ticket prices or something?
-
No, wanted to know about the venue. I bought tix for this show, mostly because it's on a Saturday night, vs. 9:30 on Sunday. It seems like a meat-market club, so I'm a little wary.
-
Well its smaller and good luck finding a parking spot. I've only ever gone there on friday nights and I wouldnt say its a meat market.
I saw Interpol there a while back and it was pretty good, the venue is small and the PA system could be a bit better for hosting live bands.
-
Just a friendly reminder, the decemberists are on conan tonight
and i do like sonar. not a bad place. not as nice as 930, but still nice.
-
for those of you who have seen a few decemberists shows in the last couple years, are you going to this one?
they're one of my favorite bands, but i think i'm just going to take a show off ... the last 930 show was OK, but it really didn't hold a candle to previous ones in terms of setlist choices
methinks if i wait a few more months or so to see them again it will be better

I'm with you, I think. While I looked in to the presale, I think I may be best served by skipping this go 'round. I had the same reaction to the last 9:30 Club show, although the addition of Petra Haden is welcome (and really made an earlier show I saw in Portland special...).

It is great, and I've seen it twice. So I'm good for a while.
Where'd you find the MP3?

its definitely not a meat market club. not at all. the club was started by two of the more prominent (if not the most prominent) rave party promoters on the East Coast and though they've been shying away from the techno/e-pill scene, its FAR from anything like Power Plant Live or Bohagers(was). i mean, it IS a club so you will have your guys/girls meeting up thing but a meat market club is far far from an accurate description.
plus, the club is seperate from the concert venue, so you dont even have to go over there if you dont want and since it seperate admission, you'll just be with a bunch of Decemberist fans. (and me).
