Title: Squeeze presale
Post by: jbcapati on April 11, 2007, 04:25:00 pm
Presale tickets for Squeeze at Pier Six in Baltimore Aug. 8 and Wolf Trap Aug. 9 are now available  here (http://www.squeezeofficial.com/shows2.htm).  You can pick from great available seats, and there is a VIP option as well with a meet and greet and signed poster.  Still awaiting word on the actual band lineup for the tour.

I'm surprised the websites don't even list a line-up.  Interesting.

 The press release does say:

Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook's live return will see them perform a host of their classic pop gems..."

So it's at least those two.

It's funny. These guys can tour individually and play all the old Squeeze hits, and they're relegated to playing Jammin Java. Put the two together and call themselves "Squeeze", and voila they're a Wolftrap headliner.

Thanks for the post.  Got 'em for Pier 6.  Anybody been to that place lately?

DC Wizard, I cannot thank you enough ...

Just got two tix 10th row center for Wolf Trap for me and my daughter ... this is one of the few bands that we have on our short list of "OH MAN I WISH I COULD HAVE SEEN THEM LIVE!!!"

After they said no to "Reunited" we thought we'd never see the day ...

Bombay, I think Difford and Tilbrook pretty much are what matters about Squeeze, no?

Saw Difford at Rams Head - it was the smallest crowd I've ever seen there.  Some things are just meant to be together I guess.  Like peanut butter and jelly.  Or Lennon and McCartney.    :)

i dunno Squeeze also had Jools Holland and Paul Carrack at one point or another in the band, Carrack sang the lead on "Tempted".   I saw them in the late 90s and they had Jools's bro on keyboards which was a bit weird, and two other hired hands.

I saw Squeeze 3 times on the "Sweets From A Stranger" tour and I'm wondering if the lineup is gonna be anything close to that one....

wikipedia says:

In early 2007 it was announced that Difford and Tilbrook would reform Squeeze for a limited number of shows at the end of the year in support of Universal and Warner's re-issuing of the band's back catalogue and the release of a new 'best of' album, Essential Squeeze, on April 30th. Jools Holland and Gilson Lavis are scheduled to be touring under the "Jools Holland & His Rhythm & Blues Orchestra" name for most of the year and will therefore not likely be involved in the reunion. The participation of other onetime Squeeze members such as Keith Wilkinson and Paul Carrack remains up in the air.

Oh, I definitely agree, but I didn't want to say it.  :)

I once saw Squeeze perform at Hammerjack's with Aimee Mann.  Aimee Mann sort of "joined" Squeeze for their set.  She took some of the vocals on some of the songs.  I think Keith Wilkinson and Gilson Lavis were the respective bassist and drummer for that show (tour.)  Their performance of "Tempted" was particularly cool.

However, a little known fact about "Tempted" is that despite what it looks like in the video, Chris Difford doesn't sing the low-pitched "The people keep of crowding" and "It's no story I can tell" and bassist John Bentley doesn't sing the high-pitched "I'm wishing I was well."  That's "East Side Story" album producer Elvis Costello singing both.

Your useless rock trivia of the day.

 Brian

I can't remember how many times I saw Squeeze back in their heyday, but they were nothing less than brilliant every single time. Without a doubt one of my all time favorite bands. Jools Holland will be sorely missed imho because he has a great stage presence. As for Carrick, he doesn't even ping on my Squeeze radar to be honest. He sang one of the weaker Squeeze songs and that's about it really.

Do you think this will be a full blown tour or just a few dates?

If anyone is on the fence about seeing them, just go..take your kids, wife, husband, grannie...even the dog if you have to, because they put on a great show.

I read an article about them last year in a U.K. music magazine (maybe Uncut or Word?)  It basically said that Difford and Tillbrook were never really best mates (it mentioned Difford was more of a kindred soul with Jools Holland) and that it was really a working relationship.  I also got the impression that while both are certainly longtime friends with one another; it's Glenn Tillbrook who seems to be a bit more secure and stable.  He loves his Squeeze years but seems just as comfortable being an autonomous solo artist.  It's Chris Difford who really misses the partnership (especially financially.)

 Brian

P.S.  I absolutely love Squeeze as well and have seen them several times.  One of my all-time favorite bands.  I'm really looking forward to the reissues being released in America since Squeeze always were great live and had great B-sides.  They are one of those bands where most of my favorite songs of theirs weren't even singles.  Unfortunately, I think these upcoming shows will be a Greatest Hits deal.  Which is fine.  If I had written "Up the Junction" or "Another Nail in My Heart" I'd perform them every night, too.

P.P.S.  "Up the Junction" is supposedly Lily Allen's favorite song.

Christopher Holland! Very talented. I like his voice and his smooth pop style... reminds me of guys like Michael Franks. I used to like Squeeze but at this point I'd rather see Christopher Holland's group, "Cosmic Harmony"

I've never seen Squeeze live nor Difford or Tillbrook solo.  All your comments are making me psyched for this show.

Hijinksandsue, I also got 10th row center tix, see you at Wolf Trap!

DCWizard, have you gotten your tickets in the mail yet?

I know, it's only been two weeks and can't remember when they are going to send them out but want to make sure I didn't miss them ...

Senior moments combined with irrational paranoia suck.

On Tap Magazine is doing a bus trip to Squeeze at Wolf Trap and we'll be selling tickets soon so keep checking the website www.ontaponline.com. (http://www.ontaponline.com.) Sorry, I could not resist. But yeah, how exciting is this show going to be!?
