White Stripes
Wilco
-
have we ruled out Bjork yet?
i'll go with Sonic Youth and Arcade Fire as well.
-
in addition to the aforementioned, i'll throw out NIN, Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Neko Case, The Good the Bad and the Queen.
-
I think from Lolla, they'll pilfer Interpol and Muse. Maybe Sparklehorse.
I also think JAMC and White Stripes are good possibilities.
LCD Soundsystem for the tent.
-
Bjork (PLEASE), Lily Allen, Modest Mouse, Sonic Youth
If Jesus and Mary Chain play, that would be rad.
-
Kids still say rad? Wow. Groovy.
-
Alabama
-
I hope that Lily Allen is NOT there. She has played at the club twice in the past 2-3 months and she's playing at Sonar next month.
NIN is a good guess since they have a new cd coming out soon.
-
I am hoping and praying that we can get Daft Punk on Saturday night (they're playing Lolla on Friday and have a date in Canada on Sunday), but it's not looking too likely. I'd like to see Wilco get added on, also would love if we could steal a few of the Lollapalooza bands, The Stooges, The Hold Steady, My Morning Jacket, TV on the Radio. White Stripes, Ween, Bjork are also high on my wishlist. I know we're not likely to get many of these, but if we got one or two, I'd be ecstatic.
-
I also would LOVE for Daft Punk to play this thing, but sadly think it's a very lost cause.
-
jimmie's chicken shack, gonzo's nose
-
Oh, forgot about Arcade Fire, would love to see them as well.
-
They have Smashing Pumpkins, Beastie Boys, and The Police as "headliners", but I was curious as to who will close each of the two nights. Any thoughts?
I think that The Police would headline one night, but I remember seeing The Who last year and they played before the RHCP, so it makes me wonder...
-
I'm thinking Daft Punk . . . . just a gut feeling.
-
I don't think it's possible. Here are their tour dates:
JUL 21 LOS ANGELES Sports Arena - SOLD OUT
JUL 27 BERKELEY, CA - Greek Theatre
JUL 29 SEATTLE, WA - WAMU Theater
JUL 31 DENVER, CO - Red Rocks
AUG 03 CHICAGO, IL - LOLLAPALOOZA
AUG 05 TORONTO, Ontario - Arrow Hall
AUG 07 MONTREAL, Quebec - Bell Centre
AUG 09 NEW YORK, NY - Keyspan Park

It's obviously a squeeze, but don't underestimate the lure of cold, hard currency baby. For something as high profile as VFest, I could see 'em pulling a back-to-back date thing . . .
-
Los Lonely Boys
-
Bobby Vinton
-
the problem with Daft Punk doing a gig 3 nights in a row is their rather large stage setup. those pyramid things and all of the screens. seems much easier for a band with just some amps, guitars and drums...but maybe not.
if daft punk and JAMC play Vfest...i'm cancelling my wedding! (not really)
-
Ralph Macchio doing spoken word hiphop
-
Breaking Benjamin. Wait, no... Breaking Bonaduce.
-
Can someone please explain to me why Daft Punk is so great? I can't stand to listen to it. I tried.
-
Charo and Cher
-
If Wilco is indeed playing Merriweather on June 21 (as was stated in the Hey Seth thread), then I doubt they'll be back again in early August, so we can probably cross them off of the list.
-
It looks like they need a day off between each of the dates in order to transport their gear. If they end up playing V-Fest, I'll buy you a drink :)

Did you listen to the Homework album?

well, of course i can only speak for myself, but Daft Punk, has carved its own sound, almost as well as the greatest techno/electronic acts (Kraftwerk, Chemical Brothers).
theres NO mistaking a DP song. plus, they're totally crazy weird french dudes.
My love came from the album Homework..back when i was at a club 3 nights a week watching Daft Punk just totally unleash the dancefloor with songs like "Rollin & Scratchin'" and "Da Funk". Homework is one of the greatest electronic albums to come out in probably the 3 years that electronic music may have been putting out the best music in the world.
Add to the fact that they NEVER tour anymore, and when they did tour back in the day, they only played large raves or underground events.
so the rareness of a live show makes them more desireable.
if you dont like to get on the dancefloor and never did...then i am not sure what is so special about them...but if you like to groove, look no further.... :)
i'm gonna go put on Homework right now!
Rollin & scratchin = best breakdancing song ever!

maybe Guns N' Roses?
speaking of GNR, who the hell is filling in for Slash since he plays with Velvet Revolver?
-
Rocco Delucca and the Burdens

You're kidding, right?

To enjoy it, I'm pretty sure you have to drop some MDMA first.
-
I think the most likely bands playing the festival will be ones with new albums out, giving them something to promote, along with not coming to DC in the months leading up to the show. Velvet Revolver breaks this, as they're playing 930 soon, but all the other announced acts fit into this category. That being said, likely acts:
White Stripes (maybe too big)
Bjork (maybe too big)
Amy Winehouse
Neko Case
Underworld
Chemical Brothers

i'm listening to "homework" right now for the first time this millennium, i think (my first mdma-free millennium). it sounds really good but i still don't understand what makes their live sets so awe-inspiring and legendary. is it all about the visuals? i mean, who really gives a fuck about visuals? that's when the flaming lips started to suck ass, when they started concentrating a lot more on the visuals than the songs.
anyway, to try to stay on topic a bit i would say that kings of leon are a solid bet to play.
-
Jimmy Eat World is coming out with a new CD this year arent they?
-
Arctic Monkeys, even though they're playing the club in a few weeks
-
Ash, Maximo Park, The Rakes, Hard-Fi (I believe) all have new stuff coming out. Then again, I'm hoping they all play Lolla. Besides Maximo is touring in July and the guys in Ash now live in NYC thusly making it easier to see them around.
-
Lolla got Silverchair, can we get Candlebox please?

Ummmm . . . . considering The Who & Chili Peppers headlined last year, & The Police/Beastie Boys are headliners this year, NO ONE you mentioned above is remotely close to too big to play VFest.
-
I meant too big to not have already been announced as a headliner. I mean, I doubt we'll get The Police, Beastie Boys, Smashing Pumpkins, The White Stripes AND Bjork. It seems somewhat unreasonable.

Don't underestimate the power of Seth's networking abilities. For 2 days worth of action, I could see it . . . . Matter of a fact, I think it's a wrap that we get the White Stripes. Far as Bjork, I could give a fuck . . . ;)
-
What makes you so sure that we'll get The White Stripes?
-
I think he's saying don't be surprised if The White Stripes ends up on the bill. I don't think they're too big...well maybe Meg's? But that's a good thing, right?

Damn skippy it is, she's one hell of a midget smuggler. :D
-
I think the Stripes at Merriweather is more likely. Vfest already has headliners.
-
This is all useless banter! Release the fucking lineup already! We're busy people! Well, maybe not. There is the useless banter after all.
-
let's get a few out of the way now...
White Stripes were going to do both V & Lolla, but Jack's wife is due that wknd
no Daft Punk
no Bjork
NIN in Russia
-
C! L! U! T! C! H!

You won't be the only one!!!
Believe me, sadly, that's not going to happen.
I don't think that even Seth the Mighty Tooth Fairy could make that happen.
Now, The Jesus & Mary Chain; that's another story. But my guess is that the band might want to see how a few of their West Coast shows go before they commit to anything else. Then again, maybe they are booked but just aren't ready to announce further dates yet.
-
speaking of gnr i heard that slash said he wouldnt mind doing a few shows with gnr with all the original memebers
-
MBV and Portishead.
please.
-
Kevin Shields said there will be another MBV record (I think he's been saying that for years though) and that he would like to do a reunion tour.....he was quoted this year saying that. So who knows..
-
My Bloody Valentine? Is Portishead even around these days? I'd be elated for either but I had no idea. Because the Smashing Pumpkins and the Police are on board, can we just throw out any band from the past and hope for a reunion in Baltimore? It seems like its going that way. If that is indeed the case, put in my vote for Dokken.
-
Oh yeah, its perfectly reasonable to anticipate an MBV reunion at Virgin Fest. But is will take some finesse. I'd suggest infiltrating Kevin Shield's dreams in the form of a Jazzmaster playing Tooth Fairy playing the tunes that Shield's was trying to get in his head when he worked on the Loveless follow-up. Now, the tricky part is going to be making it clear that as you use the Tremolo to weave the sounds in and out of tune, you are actually manipulating the universal vibrations and time and space. This will be essential to creating the pivotal epiphany in Shield's mind that all the universe's energies are leading to an inevitable MBV reunion in Maryland on the 4th or 5th of August. Once this is established there's still a lot of work to do, and execution will be key. When the transformed Shields wakes up, you'rre going to want to be outside his place - I think he lives in London - like Elwood Blues picking up Jake from prison . . . and get started on getting the band back together. Time, of course, is of the essence as August is approaching . . . but there's no reason to think this can't be done. And it'd be cooler to have the show at 9:30.
-
Mobius, you are now officially on a mission from God.
-
Yeah, what Mobius said. Every dreamy note of it!
I know Kevin said there will be a MBV reunion...one day. But I don't believe it for an instant!
Wouldn't put any stock on Portishead playing the V either. Would be quite nice though. Weren't they supposed to play Coachella or someplace? I can't keep up with those West Coast festivals.
Portishead make a very concerted effort to be very secretive. A friend of mine is fairly good friends with the bass player and even he can't get any info regarding the band out of them. He once was going to try to find out something for me amidst some rumours of them playing this way but never did because the band just get ansty and refuse to give out any info. He did tell me some some other secrets and gossip about them but nothing that give any real promise of them heading this way. Sorry about that. I tried.
-
portishead played a one off in the uk earlier in the year.
my bloody valentine is a longshot.
just saying, those two would sway me into shelling out the $100+ for a ticket.
-
I'm sad about Bjork not playing.
-
I think queens of the stone age could be a possibility with their new cd coming out later this year
-
Interpol and or Dream Theater. Please, please. ^.^ lol. hey both are releasing albums this year :3 i think.
-
It may not be economically feasible, but how about making tickets $5 and orchestrating a Fugazi reunion? Perhaps on the same days as the Beastie Boys and Bad Brains? Maybe with Sonic Youth playing Daydream Nation? I think that would go over well.
-
Whatcha been smoking, Mobius?
-
well, parliaments . . mainly.
so the chances are not good? like one in a hundred?
then I'll go with Chemical Bros., Rage, JAMC, M.I.A., Arcade Fire, Bloc Party (if they stick to Silent Alarm) . . . and Daughtry.
