Title: New Wilco album / Son Volt question
Post by: Vas Deferens on April 13, 2007, 02:18:00 pm
I'm having a hard time getting into it. What do you think?

P.S. Has anyone seen Son Volt in concert? I'm a big fan of Trace back in the dayz, but I'm not familiar with anything after that. I'm curious how they are in concert...

They're boring but if you've never seen them I wouldn't discourage you from going.  They just knock out the songs exactly as they are on record and they don't interact/move very much.  Their last show was heavy with Trace tunes.

I saw Son Volt years ago. I thought they were pretty good, but I also listened to really boring music back then.

the new wilco album is awesome, i'm so glad they went in this direction and not into radiohead territory

this board has really dictated my listening for today. "sky blue sky" sounds pretty good, but kind of tedious. nothing objectionable, and i guess this is just kinda where they are at this point. so damn professional. but at least there are, y'know, songs.

Release date is still a month away.  Is what's out there the finished product or is it still being tweaked?

Either way I'm still geeked for the Merriweather show.  If it's anything like the last one.....
Presale password?  I'm thinking 'germany'.   ;)

This Merriweather show will inherently be of lesser quality simply because the Roots will not be opening.

However, Wilco's set was absolutely killer, much better than when I had seen them at the 9:30 a few months earlier.

The leaks I've seen are the masters. What you have is what it'll be.

I don't know if this was posted elseware...

There is a presale tomorrow at 10am through Wilcoworld.  Pavillion $40/Lawn $25.

I really enjoy the new Wilco as well.  Not quite album of the year for me, but it's a damn fine album.

I was expecting it to go into more avant-garde territory especially given the most recent offerings from Glenn and Nels. I was disappointed that it didn't. Still pretty good, though.

As far as album of the year, Panda Bear will be tough to beat.

Anyone here think the pavilion seat selection on the presale is meh?  I might hold out for the Ticketmaster sale and try to get myself some good center section seats

So, I got GA Floor for the first time, period.  How many people do they pack in there?

I had GA tickets to the last White Stripes show, and they had barely packed anyone in.  There was tons of room to move around comfortably.  In fact, I was surprised how much personal space we actually had.

Keep trying for the reserved seats.  It took me about twenty minutes, but I eventually got center section, row J (fourth row, I think).  The seats coming up at 10 AM were pretty lousy.

row J is third row - congrats.  best i came up with was center row T.  ended up throwing them back, only to never get that good again...

I must have thrown back tix 50 times before I got those.  After about fifteen minutes, the seats kept getting better and better.  They must have released better seats as the presale went along.

I eventually wound up with Row T in the Right Side, but the seats are closest to the aisle in the center... don't know if I can do any better than that.  I wonder if Ticketmaster will have more center seats since I barely saw any on the presale.

I got left center, row O, on the aisle after 45 minutes. 8th row. I'm happy with the cheaper fees, too!

I nabbed GA tickets too.  I'm surprised to hear so many people had trouble.  I even had to register (guess I forgot to do so first) and still managed GA tickets no problem.

I would have had no trouble getting GA tix at 10 AM, but pregnant wife = reserved seats, and those were pretty bad at the start of the presale.

I kept throwing mine back but they kept getting worse.  So I guess I panicked and settled on RC Row R.  I was hoping to do better.

Row R really isn't that bad, especially if your seats are close to the center aisle.  I guess for once I was the only who lucked out by getting better tix after throwing lots of them back.

I have center section row Q.

Same exact seats I had for a show there about a year ago. About ten rows back, right in the center.

 Awesome sound, killer view.

 Stoked.

I thought the roots set was 'meh in 05

Additional Information:
Also appearing: Low and more. Children 5 & under get free lawn admission with a paying adult.

Selecting best available results in general admission floor until that area is sold out. The floor is an open area in front of the stage and has no chairs for this show. Select Main Pavilion or Loge Pavilion for reserved seats.
i wonder what other openers they will announce...

I've completely flipped sides since I first got the album.  It is stellar and just another new direction.

I had GA floor but will wait for reserved seats.  If this crowd is half as annoying as the one in October, I will be much better off having my own seat.

I am holding out to see what the weather will be like and then get a lawn seat.
