Nope, you can only personally ignore threads, but if you like a thread, the forum will allow you to ignore people in the thread.

I wish there was a rookie only playoff series...
 http://boards.washingtoncaps.com/index.php?autocom=blog&blogid=59& (http://boards.washingtoncaps.com/index.php?autocom=blog&blogid=59&)
 Washington 7 Philly 0

I don't wish the NHL was so lame they had to book the 'world's greatest arena rock band', Def Leppard for a opening day 'spectacular'.

They could have at least booked AC/DC who are still actually played at games.

The season starts with games in Stockhold (Ottawa vs Pittsburgh) and Prague (NYR vs Tampa).

Here's a fantastic bit of serendipity. We booked our vacation to Munich and Prague months ago. So imagine my surprise when we realized we'd be in Prague for both the NYR/Tampa games. Our friend (who's going with us) works for the NCAA and has good connections. Good enough to get us tickets for one of the games there. Should be fun.

People needing a pre-season fix can watch MSG on cable tonite to catch the Sens and Rangers (they played on Sat. Sloppy game but fun to watch). Check StubHub for cheap preseason Caps tix. We grabbed a pair for $11 each (plus s/c) for front row club seats.

Having said that, a few comments about the upcoming season:

 - as much as I'd love to see my Habs pull it off this season, I still think last year was an anomaly. They'll finish 5th overall.

 - no one in the east can match the west. Look for the winner to come from there. I think the Wings will repeat.

 - watch for Chicago and Tampa. They're going to be seriously fun to watch. Some very talented kids on those teams.

 - enjoy the hockey while you can. I'm betting on another lockout in four years when the current CBA expires.

I was just reading they are looking to expand by 2012, they even mentioned Portland (no chance in hell here though I think).  Hopefully expansion plans would lead to a short lockout.

I think a lot depends on how well the KHL does in the next couple years.
People kinda sleep on it as just a renamed Russian Super League, but it now also includes teams from Latvia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus. They are also planning on expanding into other countries like Sweden, Finland, Czech Rep., Ukraine, and Germany.
Quality teams like Frölunda and Kärpät have been asked to join.
I don't think the owners will be so likely to let it go to another lockout.

Goalies are always the great equalizer in hockey. If Giguere stood on his head in front of a Niedermayer/Pronger-lead defense, they could win a series against the Wings.

i can qualify it with 'in lieu of other-worldly goalies displays and massive injuries', but i figure thats implied before the first puck is dropped

OK then yes. Barring an avalanche wiping out half the team, no team on talent alone can touch Detroit's skaters.

and i also cant believe i ended up with Ovechkin, Malkin and Zetterberg on one of my fantasy teams.  in a 10 team league no less.

If the other person needed help across the board, that's a fair trade for both sides. Savard isn't a game changer in real-life but his fantasy numbers are always top-shelf.

i'm contemplating getting home ice on directv, price seems reasonable, and it's gonna have a fair amount of hd games every week. . .while it wouldn't necessarily help me with sharks games, since they are local, i would like to get more pens games. . .

let's hope the wings/hawks game at wrigley looks just as good as the pens/sabres game last year.  that game even got the sports guy to start watching hockey again.

as i noticed with Dish last  year, the RSNs they had in HD, which werent too many last year, were the HD games they were showing.  They have added a lot since spring (including NESN) so i am hoping there are at least 3 a night.  Last year it would only be one a night or maybe 2.
Dish had tons of HD Pens games last year.

Palin dropping the puck sickens me. Apparently she is good spokesperson for hockey and there's no political agenda. I don't buy it. At least the Phightins took Game 1.

yeah i dont buy it either - but on another note - there are 4 Obama rallies going on tomorrow in Philly! Those Flyers fans might be really riled up way before the puck is even dropped.

I have NHL Center Ice, most Caps games are blacked out, but their not worth watching unless they're playing the Penguins, so it really doesnt matter to me.

Fleury is gonna be good once he realizes the '84 Lumber' on the boards behind him is for a hardware store and not another over-hyped rookie center he hasn't seen in the locker room.

I would be happier about it if it meant that both teams sucked, but because of the Red Wings not the Bruins.  Just another season gone bad for me with all the injuries the Blues are suffering.

i'm a fan of RFD's, 810 7th St NW.  huge beer selection (over 200?), and their buffalo burger is solid, be sure to ask for it rare or med-rare at most.  can get kinda loud pre-game, and the ambiance doesn't have much going for it... it's still my stand-by, tho.

Good call.
The problem will be most places will be so packed that by waiting on a table the hour and half will easily be killed before you finish a meal.
Fado's next door to RFD is good too, if you're down for an Irish Bar with decent food.
If you get there at the right time (early) Matchbox has a good beer selection and wood fired pizzas. The wait time for a table could be 45 minutes in a very crowded bar area.
If you're looking for 'cuisine' over just food, Rosa Mexicano across from the arena is pricey for what it is, but good. Proof on G street has a huge wine list and foods to complement. Zatinya has some tasty mezze.

I'd probably go a few blocks over near the old 9:30 club spot and hit Gordon Biersch or Ella's. They won't be as crazy crowded as Chinatown and Penn Quarter.
