Sorry, I'm holding out for the Anaheim show to be with my boys like the good ol' days.  I wonder how many of them are going to cancel because of wives/kids?

Come on, some of you have to be going to this?  Don't be shy....

I would have really thoguht about it, if the whole controversy over Van Hagar's Greatest Hits Volume 2 didn't come up. Now they'll never get a cent more of my money. Bastards.

I give you, Van Hagar-Lee Roths's GH#1
 1.   Eruption
 2.   Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love
 3.   Runnin' With the Devil
 4.   Dance the Night Away
 5.   And the Cradle Will Rock...
 6.   Unchained
 7.   Jump
 8.   Panama
 9.   Why Can't This Be Love?
 10.  Dreams
 11.  When It's Love
 12.  Poundcake
 13.  Right Now
 14.  Can't Stop Lovin' You
 15.  Humans Being
 16.  Can't Get This Stuff No More
 17.   Me Wise Magic

And now #2, though they changed the concept to just another GH CD.

 Eruption
 Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love
 When It's Love
 Finish What Ya Started
 You Really Got Me
 Feels So Good
 Jamie's Cryin'
 Black and Blue
 Runnin' With the Devil
 Poundcake
 Beautiful Girls
 Runaround
 Dance the Night Away
 Right Now
 And the Cradle Will Rock...
 Top of the World
 Everybody Wants Some!!
 Can't Stop Lovin' You
 Unchained
 Not Enough
 Dancing in the Street
 It's About Time (NEW!)
 Learning To See (NEW!)
 Up For Breakfast (NEW!)
 (Oh) Pretty Woman
 Hot For Teacher
 Jump
 Panama
 I'll Wait
 Why Can't This Be Love
 Dreams
 Best of Both Worlds
 Love Walks In
 Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love (Live)
 Jump (Live)
 Panama (Live)

notice, with the exception of the last three songs off of GH#1, a soundtrack filler, and two new ones with DLR, all of the previous ones appear on GH#2. Granted, a bunch of other stuff does too, but still, it just really pisses me off. It makes a mokcery of the first GH, and all the suckers who bought it -- myself included. So, no more money from me will they get. I'm sure I paid $16 for that CD. Bastards...

That's why you won't go see them live?  That's ridiculous!

You can find just about every VH album in the $1 bins these days anyway, so why buy a Greatest Hits package in the first place?  Just buy the originals and put together a redsock greatest hits collection so crap like "an't Stop Lovin' You" doesn't sneak into your mix.

For .99 cents you can download the new tracks and you have the whole collection for less than the cost of the Greatest Hits package.

Well, Exit Clov's playing that night too... but still, i'm sticking to my guns. Besides, would you trust anyone who thought Gary from Extreme was a good singer?

It's good to have principles.

Nonetheless, It will be interesting to see who gets in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame first: Van Halen or Exit Clov.

No more than I would trust anyone who thought Sammy Hagar was a good singer.

Theres alot of people that arent good singers but are still good. Liz Phair for example, she's good but she's definetely not one of the best singers in the world or even close to it. She's just got a unique voice and writes good songs. But if she were in a contest, aint no way she's even coming close to winning.

I read that quickly & thought at first you were dismissing Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love...which is one of the best badass rock songs of ALL time.

But - upon further review, I see that you were talking about some other crap & my faith in vansmack has been restored.

I would never dismiss "Ain't talkin' 'bout love!" - I will now whistle that opening lick all day!

I remember spending days trying to learn that lick on the guitar way back when.  Sweet lick.

Hey Redsock, bear in mind that many times the records labels are the ones pushing these new release compilations and not the band. The band sometimes will go along with it because they are pressured into it. So it's OK to protest by not buying the CD, but I wouldn't necessarily punish the band. You never know if the label is at fault.

i saw Van Halen back in 1991 with Alice In Chains (when they were nobodys) and they were pretty good.  I was in the LAST row of Maple Leaf Gardens but still, they rocked, and they always will!

If anyone is looking for tickets for this show...although I can't imagine why, but each to their own.......call World Gym in Sterling 703 444 9802 and someone has a couple of floor tickets (8th row I think) for sale for face value. Just tell them there's a notice on the board over the water fountain in the weights area.

So any comments? I'm glad I went, It definetely had its moments. I coulda done without Sammy's solo and two of their new songs but overall I'd say it was worth it. Eddie still kicks ass with the guitar.

The sound wasn't great, and the instruments could have been clearer, but overall a kickass show. You're right guiny, the sammy hagar solo wasn't necessary. I had to use the bathroom so I went then. In the end, I enjoyed the show and the band performed really well, with a lot of energy. great show. By the way, was that eddie's son wolfgang who came on stage during his solo?

That was Eddie's son that came out.  I am lucky enough to have gone up to the 400 level to buy a beer and ran into one of the MCI Center people and she gave us 'golden ring' bracelets so we were literally 5 feet from the band all night.  I got a pick from Eddie and had a great time.  I'm not a HUGE Van Halen fan, but being 5 feet from Eddie Van Halen will make any guitar player cream him/herself.

That was always the least favorite part of the new VH shows.  Let me guess - Sammy by himself with an acoustic guitar acting all sentimental but looking and sounding like Jimmy Buffet?

That was part of the reason they broke up the first time.

Actually, it was an electric, but he used some pedal to make it sound acoustic!  :D

was there a bass solo and a drum solo?  or did that got the way of dlr

There was a drum solo, but the bassist didn't do a "solo" he just ran around hitting his bass shaped like a jack daniels bottle.  :)

Damn.  The two things I hoped they would change they left in the show:  Sammy Hagar getting intimate with the crowd singing his solo crap and Micheal Anthony pretending he has talent.

On the positive side, two beer breaks.

When I saw them do the Sammy solo set it wasn't *so* bad. This was way back before Sammy had all the crap to pimp though (pre Cabo-Wabo schtick). His solo stuff consisted of Standing Hampton & Three Lock Box mostly. With the lamest thing thrown in being "I Can't Drive 55". It was actually kind of cool then to hear Eddie playing guitar on "There's Only One Way To Rock" & "Heavy Metal".
 Aaah...the good old days.
