anyone going??? i will be there with a trio of my Canadian crazies!!! and my sexy american girlfriend...
-
I will be there, although I am not Canadian. I did listen to a Canadian radio station back in the mid-90's, though, in Detroit.
I do not know what you look like, however, so I doubt I will be buying you a Molson.
-
Here's Sonick and his bud, having a molson...eh, although he might still be hard to find if the club is full of those loveable canucks!

-
Molson... is.... SHITE...

I must admit, I always preferred Calgary myself.

If American bars would bother stocking good beer in general, nobody would drink that rats piss known as Budweiser.

OUCH!! its not really that American beer is ALL crap. the problem is their capitalistic society lets the crap beer get all the sales. there is good american beer like Samuel Adams, Sierra Nevada, even Pabst (for cheap beer)

I'll be there and would buy you a Molson...except the damn bar doesn't stock ANY Canadian beer.
Like US beers, most mass produced Canadian beers are kinda lame (though I'll still take a Molson Canadian or Labatt Blue over Bud/Miller anyday). But I think our midlevel breweries (ie Sleeman, Upper Canada, Keiths, etc) are better than the comparable brewers in the States.
Anyhow, I'll be there and wearing my Dears t-shirt. And I'm easy. Feel free to buy me a beer of (just about) any sort. :)

i would think you are a little young to be using "your mother" jokes. didnt we stop doing them in the mid-80s???

I would think you probably don't have the first clue how old I am, so it's pretty much irrelative.

looked inside an Irish bars lately mankie? I think you'll find them full of rats piss like Bud, Millers, Coors etc - their move into the European market has been quite the illustration of the power of marketing/advertising

when i was living in ireland ('02), it seemed like budweiser was the beer of choice among many of the locals ... pubs would have the following taps:
2 guinness
2 guinness extra cold
2 heineken
2 budweiser
(maybe some smithwicks or harps)

There's no better N.American beer than that produced from the oldest brewery on the continent, Molson. Microbrews are for wussies.
-
my favorite beers are the ones with alcohol

You need to get around (or 'out and about' as we might say). There are some excellent beers that come out of medium sized breweries that are outstanding. Creemore, Sleeman, and Keiths are my favorites. All three brands are widely available and it ain't that fruity, wishy washy, namby pamby, little girl micro-mouthwash stuff either.
I think we could probably get a federal education grant to take a roadtrip of the Breweries of Ontario. A fact finding mission, as it were...
-
thats about right, plus a ton of other shite beers by the bottle
me, I love Guinness extra cold! Some bars have actually stopped selling regular guinness and just sell extra cold

It's true we don't stock any Canadian beers, don't ask me why.
I will admit though that of all the Canadian beers I've tried that Molson Canadian (not Golden) is the best. The rest I've tried have been pretty bad.

I have mentioned the Bud phenomenom over here, but it's mostly with the younger crowd. They drink the nasty shit room temperature too!
Down here in the south they also have Beamish and Murphy's taps. There seems to be a promotion of Beamish in Dublin because I noticed in quite a number of bars had staff wearing Beamish shirts last weekend.

ahh, finally woken up enough to type.
the show was brilliant as usual. i think the setlist they played could've been better and a touch longer, but thats just nitpicky.
the new songs are amazing. much livlier than some of the other crunchy rock stuff they did on Gravity and they played oh so well live. It seemed they really really loved playing them too.
they played In Repair, my favourite song of theirs and so the night was a gleaming success :)
Danko Jones sucks. there is just no other way to describe it.
and i just DONT see how you can go to a concert and stand there, completely motionless. i mean, no head bob, no foot tap, nothing!!! are these people robots??? totally weird. the crowd on the floor was cool, for DC but the balcony...come on people its just freaky to see you up there like a painting!!!!
i'll be seein them next weekend in Cleveland too....
-
I didn't think Danko Jones was THAT bad. I mean, I didn't like the music much but there was something to be said for his stage persona. I found it kinda endearing. F**k yeah.
OLP put a hell of a show. I liked the pacing of the show and it was great to hear Naveed. Definitely takes me back.
If you're a really big OLP fan, you might be interested in a project that Raine Maida is working on. It's a benefit CD for War Child. He's enlisted Sam Roberts, The Dears, The Weakerthans, and other Canucks to appear on it. Should be an interesting CD. Here's a link to the Canoe article.

I'm off to the Homeland - Sam Roberts tomorrow night and The High Dials on Sunday!

i swear, every single time i hear them play that song, they do it bigger and better...every time....its just a fucking amazing song...definitely took the show to another level.
-
just to clear this up, everyone else here but the canucks think Our Lady Peace sucks, right?
-
i always thought they were on the same level as Sponge, just another scrunge band
-

just to clear this up, the Canucks on the board do not need everyone elses approval before liking a band. ;)

I was wondering what about this band merited two pages of discussion, but then I saw it was two Canadians doing all the posting, plus Mankie talking about beer and titties.

Good show. Didn't play One Man Army or Love and Trust which I would have liked to hear. Didn't see anyone in a Molson shirt.
-
Great show. I just really dislike "Boy." I never though I'd hear OLP try to sound like U2. They are better than that.
-

ha, it was dirty when i went to put it on, i had my Curling shirt on instead....
we were a little disappointed in the setlist, like you said, no One Man Army, i wanted to hear ANYTHING from Happiness/Fish and got nothing. and do we really need to play 4AM and Somewhere out There anymore????

we were totally cracking up about that last night. totally U2.
and yes, they're better.

At least you guys were honest.

vague much?

Meaning most people who were disappointed in a concert that other people made fun of would just lie and say it was great, you guys didnt. It was an honest opinion and I thank you for that.

:) awww...
some bands need to play every song they wrote for me to be happy!
-
I thought it was a great show. I can agree with the others above about not playing anything from "Happiness..." and the show could have been a little longer, because this set was the shortest I had ever seen them have as a headliner. New CD is okay thus far. I prefer the stuff they were doing on Spiritual Machines much better.
