Title: I'm also asking for trouble....
Post by: mankie on June 24, 2004, 03:14:00 pm
but......I've been asked if I'd like to teach a spinning class, and I'm considering it because it might be fun. If I did I'd like to mix a couple of very unique cd's for the class.

Your assignment, should you decide to accept, is to suggest songs form your vast collection that would be great for spinning to.

Remember, there's spinning, spin and sprint, hill climbs, runs and standing climbs to consider.

And for the benefit of the board comedians, they don't have to be about bikes or cycling...it's the beat, tempo and rythm that makes a good spinning song.

Kraftwerk's Tour de France is relevant and has a good beat to it.

ACDC [Highway to Hell or Back in Black albums] always makes me drive fast, maybe it would make me spin fast too.

I've noticed when DJing that bluegrass tends to get people really wound up.

And so does old-school punk rock.

For a spinning class?  Most Air songs make me want to sit on the couch, and most Sigur Ros songs make me want to fall asleep.

Any high BPM europop disco. I know you have plenty in you collection.

 My favourite cycling song was:

 Everybody hurts sometimes REM...

They always had that on the tannoy for near the end of races.

If 'ANY' REM song played while I was cycling I would cycle under the first double decker bus I could find.

I would offer to follow you with a tannoy, but the chances of finding said double decker seem slim.

personally, i like spinning classes that i can sing along with, particularly 80's music.  i was really excited to hear the Smiths in one earlier this month.

i repeat the question-- where will you be leading this class? that also matters.  folks on capitol hill prolly have far different tastes than Duponters.

Soz.....Wheaton, but for fear of being called a racial profilist, the gym where I take spinning classes is very mixed but only whitey's seem to spin, once in a while a black lady will show up, and there's a black bloke who shows up once in a blue moon, but for the most part it's white folk who spin.

How about off the wall stuff like flight of the bumble bee?

Did you know that "gym " is a Greek work that means 'naked' and that in ancient Greece men used to go to the gymnasium to hang around in the nude and work out together?  Did you know that the first olympic games in Athens were held in the nude???

 Hello sailor.

 Hello sailor.
NEWSFLASH!!!!!!!

 We're not in Greece!

Although I wouldn't mind seeing ladies nude gymnastics during the Olympics.

Interesting, that.  On Capitol Hill, the classes are totally mixed-- girl/guy, black/white, gay/straight.  The Brother to Brother/Sister to Sister AIDS ride team members seem to do lots of
training in spinning classes-- I've seen 'em at both results gyms.

and i've been to classes with the flight of the bumblebee-- prollem is, no bass.  when you're spinning, the bass line sets cadence.  remember that-- slower bass beats for climbs, fast ones for sprints.
