This is a message from the U.S. Capitol Police
9/23/05 1030hours
For information and planning purposes: Today, Friday, September 23rd, a group of bicyclists known as "Critical Mass" will be in Washington DC. According to their unofficial website, "Critical Mass is not an organization, it is an unorganized coincidence. It is a movement...of bicycles, in the streets." In the past, during visits to Washington DC, members of the group rode bicycles through the city and created rolling roadblocks, blocking streets and intersections and disrupting traffic throughout the city. This year, the group has indicated that it will meet at Dupont Circle this afternoon for a "special anti-war Critical Mass bike ride". They will likely depart that location at approximately 5pm. If their activities are consistent with past practices, the group may seriously affect rush hour traffic this evening. Congressional staff should plan local travel accordingly...

You mean they were travelling just like cars do every rush hour?

People just can't wrap their heads around the fact that bicycles are vehicles as well.

I wish I could be all individual and ride a bike:

I thought normal D.C. critical mass rides were poorly attended affairs? I guess they are putting on a special show because of all the peace stuff at the weekend? Anyone know anything more about the C.M. ride tonight?

Note to muschi: Poasting a huge .jpg image can sometimes be a good topic-killer.

Difference is that they are traveling with a specific intent to create roadblocks....and that is a difference.

traveling and roadblocks.... What about those two words sounds mutually incompatible?

According to the Critical Mass DC (http://cm-dc.mahost.org/) site, it won't be till 6:00pm that they meet in Dupont.

According to the police. The intent of Critical Mass is not to create roadblocks...

Note to muschi: Annoying moderators is a surefire way to score some quick bboard-cred points.
Annoying thatguy is good for double points.
