Title: HFStival 2004 lineup
Post by: andyrichter on April 14, 2004, 11:21:00 pm
its ONLY $40.  besides, who wouldn't want to see underage girls take their tops off and misunderstood teenagers mosh to nu metal bands?  good times.

Or mid 30's adults showing them how we mosh in the old days as i throw them three rows into the crowd.   ;)

Cypress Hill is announced.....Not a bad lineup so far. Even the whiney indie has to be happy with some of there groups who will be on an outside stage with about ten people watching them.

Has Modest Mouse announced yet?  Gotta say, that's about the only thing that will get me to go to this darn thing.

They're counting on people like you who are willing to pay $40 to see one band. Don't let them down!

Lineup is in this  thread (http://www.930.com/cgi-bin/ubb-cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=006679) -- yes to Modest Mouse, no to Postal Service.  Sure there are a couple bands I'd like to see, but I'm not fighting the crowds of kids or paying $40...

I'm not fighting the "kids" either, a friend is getting them online.

even a few good indie bands couldn't please me enough to go to another HFStival. i went in '99 and '00 and i absolutely hated it. too many fat rednecks without shirts, little kids trying to score beer, and a nearly impossible shot to see the stage from less than 300 feet away. just the whole atmosphere really isn't my thing. it's a shame though, cause i would love to see the yyy's and modest mouse, but i'll just hope/pray/wish that they come back and do a club tour.

If I do plan, I'm ordering my tickets during the pre-sale that's happening tomorrow. It'll save me from having to wait in a long line on saturday. I learned my lesson last year, when I went to Wolftrap.

I know you guys are alternatingly really negative and really positive about HFStival, but can someone give me a straight answer about the posibility of it selling out before the day of?
Title: Re: HFStival 2004 lineup
Post by: Bags on April 17, 2004, 01:40:00 am
es9450a, the HFStival won't sell out quickly.  For the past few years, you've been able to get tickets the day of the show, but I'm not sure you can count on that.  I'd say this year will be like the last few, and you can wait.  But like anything, if it's important to you to go, I'd buy tickets before hand.  But, even if the show's sold out, you can probably scalp outside RFK, and probably for face price or less.

 Just my supposition.

RFK seats 56,000   :(
plenty of seats for the old farts.  no doubt the rednecks and punk-ass-bitches dying for a glimpse of paparoach & jay-z will compromise a swinefest on the field...
i wonder if they'll allow chicks to bring in pepper-spray/mace?

no point in doing our routine boob-flash for robert smith, he'll need binoculars to see any nips

...and if they do allow us to bring in pepper-spray/mace, i wonder if i can get close enough to the stage to mace jay-z?

I would've said you could probably walk up the day of and not even have to wait in line....but now the Cure have been added I'm not so sure, they'll draw a different crowd than the teenage tit-flashing crew so you have two sets of hfsters now.

Thank you kind sirs and ma'ams.  I'll be there probably.  Down near the front for Taking Back Sunday, up in the seats for a while, back down for Modest Mouse, back up, then down for Jay Z and the Cure.  Wait, that's the way it works right?  Go from the seats to the field at your lesiure?

one year, the guards like blocked all the stairways so NO ONE MOVED. It was absurd, but since everyone was stationary, the only thing to do was pass the dutchie. I'd want to see the Cure and the Violent Femmes, but not in that crowd for that price, plus its the same day as GRUNDLE FEST at Univ. of Maryland. gggrrrrindcore!

I love you guys for sticking up for my musical tastes against the mean evil goth guy.  Personally I like being a punk-ass bitch.  As well as an emo fag, a pop-punk homo, a techno geek, pretentious indie loser, and pop fag.  Wait, did I use fag twice?  SWubstitue your favorite synonym for homosexual for the second one.  It does appear though that do a chacne in my summer plans I will not be atentingd the HFStival afterall.  This saddens me, however I expect to see Modest Mouse, Taking Back Sunday, And possibly the Cure and Jay Z over the summer if they tour.  not together, though, im sure.  As exciting as that would be.

the down-low: based on robert smith's (or as siouxsie calls him "fat bob") current inflated state, he's only coming for the chicken tenders as well.

Flawd, one of my very favorite bands, Swervedriver, has a song called Flawed and I now think of you every time that I hear it. It's pretty good but knowing that you think our music sucks, you would probably think this song too sucks. The song has some good guitar work in it, like all of Swervedriver's music. Okay, I'm biased.

I wouldn't even think of buying it as I can't stand most of Modest Mouse's earlier works and don't expect much to change. Have heard a few tracks and it just seems a little smoother and more commercial sounding but still has those irritating vocals. In fact, I actually prefer some of the earlier works as I would hear some decent guitar playing once in awhile. This just seemed sort of stripped down and engineered up...but I haven't heard the entire disc.

I can't remember how big RFK is on the inside. Is it possible to enjoy the show without being squashed amongst people who think that kicking other's in the head is fun?
Title: Re: HFStival 2004 lineup

You can hang about halfway back from the stage on the field and definitely have some room, or you can sit in the stands and also have space.  Like most big concerts, the closer you want to get, the tighter and more 'kicky' the crowd....
