Title: Venues
Post by: Tom Servo on January 24, 2007, 11:13:00 pm
Whoever is doing the booking for R&R Hotel is not fucking around.

On the other hand, I haven't been to Velvet Lounge, DC9, or Iota in a long time.

I'd think the Black Cat is hurting the most from RNR Hotel, actually.

And you should go see Mark Eitzel tomorrow @ Iota.

Good, maybe the Black Cat will start running their joint a little better.

Iota's calendar is definitely not what it used to be [for at least a couple of years]. Even Jammin' Java books some better acts than they do.
Anyhow, I'll make it to RnR at some point - I'd love to see Midlake.

Damn this thread is painful. Miss Iota, funny/sad that R&R and Velvet are gone, Black Cat seems even more so like a shadow of itself compared to the early 2000s. This and getting 4 hours of sleep last night is making my bones feel they're crumbling, wadded paper mâché.

amazing how much they have grown, can't believe it's been over 2 decades

It’s been over two decades but the growth seems to have really taken off the past 7 or so years. I wonder where they are getting the capital investment.

There was speculation they would pick up Ransheadlive in Baltimore….

Richmond’s new waterfront amphitheater has a named sponsor — Allianz.

Supposedly first show listings will start being announced in next 2-3 weeks. Opening June 2025. They hope to steal most of Charlottesville Pavilion and Browns Islands bookings. We’ll see.

will you become a Season Ticket holder?

Why don't DC venues do this??

I have heard nothing about season tickets being an option here. Honestly the thing The National/Norva does is pretty unique to be honest, don’t think it’s just a “not in DC” thing.

curious, what does this set one back

speaking of...this looks live and only $250 for a year of shows seems like a good deal if you live near baltimore

The national VIP thing was $5k for two tickets the last year I did it which was like 18 months ago. Was extremely easy to transfer to others when I didn’t use it.

Easily raised nearly that much back for charities a year just by making “a package” with my unused tickets plus a restaurant gift card and letting them auction it off. People would pay such an insane premium to sit in the balcony and have a private bar. The market is there.

When Union stage was opening or being built I guess the Brindley bros needed cash and as I recall they did sell some passes for all the shows..some perks were included..

I can’t recall the specifics.

Being a mere plebeian pauper I am against the VIPfication of concerts but I know the demand is there.

Don’t they have something like that at Filmore? I know Warner used to have “boxes” corporations would buy circa 2006-2009 when I dabbled working there…but I believe things have changed.

Every time I’ve been to FSS the vip areas were available for purchase for an individual concert. The Nationals thing is it’s all annual subscription.

True but are they all available for all shows? Or are some of them set aside for companies or repeat patrons. I really don’t know. Anyways there are very few shows there I am interested in. Like one a year.

I think if I could do this anywhere-buy a one year subscription- it would be Atlantis. I like what they are doing booking wise.

But who am I kidding? I don’t go to many shows and am a perpetual plebeian pauper.

If it was priced near or close to what otto bar was...then I'd go for it

but likely it would be $1000 ticket, as they probably do 100 plus shows a year (maybe even closer to 175)
and all the good shows would likely be ineligible

a boy can dream

$1000? I think it would be way more than that…they pretty much have shows every night so I think 5k would be fair. All shows would be eligible otherwise what’s the point

I think the Union Stage was for an investment of 10k
