Title: Good Friday
Post by: Charlie Nakatestes, Japanese Golfer on March 25, 2005, 09:56:00 am
Why do they call it GOOD Friday? Jesus gets nailed to a cross and they call it GOOD Friday. Geez.

It is good, because it gave Mel Gibson a fantastic story to make such an awesome film. I cannot wait to see the recut version. I hope they add an extra 20 minute of unnecessary violence and change it so that the whole film is in slo-mo.

Someone needs to explain to me how we've come up with these dates. If Jesus was killed on Friday, was dead 3 days, then how did he rise again on Sunday? There seems a math problem there.

Also, since the Jewish calendar runs along with the cycles of the moon, shouldn't Easter and the date of Jesus' death (Passover) fall on different dates every year, and therefore different days of the week? Guess that just didn't work for our dear Catholics. Oh well.

That's what my wife told me yesterday. There was no sacraligious intent in my initial post.

It is ??good? because this was the day that Jesus paid the penalty for our sins so that we could be redeemed.

Also, today is day 1, tomorrow is day 2, Sunday (Easter) is, therefore, day 3.

Why can't Christians make a deal with God, and God can take then 5 or 10 years sooner than non-Christians? Seems like people should pay the penalty for their sins, not Jesus.

It would seem to me that a certain justice or balance is involved. Jesus' ransom paid for Adam's sin. Adam was perfect, and therefore, the redeemed of mankind too must be perfect. Jesus even said as much saying, "for who can so much as save even his brother?" If God allowed non-perfect humans to buy back themselves, it'd be woefully insufficient.

Also, Jesus' sacrifice proves Satan's claim that mankind would not serve God if it was against their personal interest to be false.

Jaron do you also post as Walkonby?

Of course we are not perfect.

Think about line like, let he without sin cast the first stone.....

Besides if Adam was perfect he never would have been tempted in the first place.

No, I have no clue what that is. If it's some sort of psuedo-christian southern-baptist hand holding community, then I'm not interested.
