I bought a ticket last night just in case (really to make me go), but it didn't seem like it would be a sellout. You should be fine...

thinking of going but also going to Alejandro Fri night and Decemberists Sun night so might be tough to swing

I just heard that Brendan,Jack White and 2 members of the Greenhornes have something coming out under the name The Raconteurs.Anybody heard any of it?

there was mention of such a album being made, although it was quickly denied with people saying it was only a single. the more it's existance is denied the more it's probably going to come out. brendon's bio indicated awhile back he was producing jack's solo record, which would appear to be on the back burner as well...
wonder if the inclusion of the greenhornes on the broken flower soundtrack will raise their profile... anyone know if the greenhornes have their keyboard player back in tow? the last show i saw them without the keyboard was a bit lacking. then again it was a monday night in baltimore and the band looked tired and the turnout pretty sparse.

According to an interview done by Mojo, both Jack and Brendan admit the album is complete also including Greenhornes drummer and bass player. It's due early next year and should be followed with some live dates. It has been desribed as "Nirvana meets Cat Stevens." Jack goes on to say that he'll be taking a break from the WS to pursue this and are already working on material for the next one.

Yes and your point is?
-
I wish I could go, but I already have 4 concerts plus a job interview this week, and I desperately need Thursday night off.
-
It's like my wife says, "Do you actually have to listen to every damn alt-country band that comes along?"

Don't be such a middle aged pussy. Get out there and rawk. You're sounding more and more like me. How pathetic.

Only the good ones...

Well give me a list of the bad garage rock bands that should be avoided, and a list of good ones, and tell me the differences between the two lists.

Me too. Wife been away for a week, and last thing she's going to want to do upon coming home is go to a rock and roll show. At least she's letting me go to shows on Sunday and Tuesday.

Zap Mama is a very big name in the world music arena. All of the rich Africans cavorting around DC, as well as the rich yuppie liberal types that listen to world music, should be able to afford $22.

I agree -- didn't know you were there, hoya, I would have looked for you and said hi (had I known, for instance, what you look like!).
It was a great show, and perfectly swept my Posies memories away (which is a shame -- but there's no harm in the audience *recognizing* your songs at the show).
I love the albums, but wasn't sure I'd be so happy at the show. "Spit it Out" is a great song, but hearing it last night it suddenly became one of the best songs I've ever heard. It's just perfectly crafted.
Good show.
Hey, anyone catch the Greenhornes -- I tried to get there but didn't make it...

Dont make me mad I didn't go!
Just look for the guy in the Penn State sweatshirt. That's Hoya.

was wearing my spiffy columbia heights t-shirt last night, stage right ... screaming wildly for each song and singing along way too loudly

i really liked how he pulled the acoustic out for some of his set, it really let his songs take the limelight ... it got a bit too guitar-y at points with the double electric attack
anyway, i feel like when brendan benson hits the sweet spot, he's one of the best songwriters in the world ... the way i feel about "sittin' pretty" and "tiny spark" is similar to the replacements' "alex chilton" and "left of the dial", just perfect pop songs that tug at your music gut and make you want to pump your fist
"spit it out" was great too, i just haven't had hundreds of listens of it like his older stuff ... i also didn't even mind the short-ish set, the songs were just great

they get a big "ehhh" from me ... seemed like some pretty standard bluesy garage stuff ... that said, the bassist had the best rock nerd get-up i've seen in a while, his specs were so thick that they looked like prop glasses ... absolutely no charisma from the lead singer though, which i feel like you need for a generally non-descript garage outfit
came in towards the end of the first group ... don't know their name, but they were ok, just a guitar/harmonica/vox guy and a girl drummer ... again pretty standard stuff, but he had a fantastic moustache ... i'm betting on a hip moustache craze in the next two years or so (mark my words, and ggw, remember this thread so you can refer back to it when my prophecy comes true)

By the guy doing all the arm waving? We could see him from the other side of the room....I love enthusiasm, it was awesome.
