Anyone else heading up to Rams Head for the show? A buddy of mine is a huge fan, so I'm going along with him.
I'm not particularly psyched; the one time I saw them in Philly didn't wow me, and I can't say I listen to their albums all that often. Still, should be a decent time. I've never been to the Rams Head, so that's something.

i'll be there. this will also be my first time at rams head.
-
i'm going too. haven't seen em, wanna know what all the hype is about...going in with an open mind :)
i think you guys will like the venue. look for me upstairs!
-
i read an article the other day about their show at terminal 5. they played for 2 1/2 hours.
-
I was really looking forward to this show (they were fantastic at the 9:30 a few years ago), but I won't be able to make it. I have an e-ticket which I will happily give away free if anyone is interested.

I promised my friend I would get him a ticket because he's obsessed with them. I really like them too and I finally got the tickets, so I'll be there. I dunno how early I should get there though...

It'll be my first show at RamsHead. The one time I saw them they were incredible - and I'd never actually heard them before. Not my type of music at all but they put on a great show.
From the setlists I've seen it looks like half the show will be material from their yet-to-be-released disc. And only one track from FtM.

TheDirector and I are rolling in.

So that's what? Three songs?

This (IMHO) is one of those much better live than on tehir CDs type bands. Saw them in Hampton open for SOAD I believe. I had a blast.

is it still available? my brother said he was interested last week. if so, i'll call him to make sure he can still attend.

Hey, I was at this show. It was my first show at Rams Head Live, too, believe it or not. The venue isn't half bad. The acoustics could be better, but everything is shiny and new. The layout of the club is pretty good, I'd say. The bars are nice, and you can't go wrong with the Fordham beers for the most part. The attendant and the selection of colognes in the men's restroom is a classy touch. Access to/from the attached parking garage via elevator was sweet.
The smell of smoke (both tobacco and pot) in the audience was stifling though. I've been spoiled by DC's smoking ban, I guess. Does Rams Head Live go smoke-free in two weeks like most Maryland bars and restaurants? Can't wait for that. There was less smoking after Cedric (the lead singer) asked the audience to refrain from smoking, but, half an hour later, a lot of smokers were lighting up again. I'm surprised Rams Head Live didn't acquiesce to the band's desire and make the show smoke-free from the start, but I guess that's the difference between the 9:30 Club and other venues.
I loved the first hour of Mars Volta's performance, but then I started to tire of one 10-minute song after another. By the two-hour mark, I was checking my watch a lot and hoping for it to end already, but the show's picked up nicely toward the end and they finished strong. Some songs in the middle just went on too long. Overall, it was a really good show, but I think they would be better if they kept it under two hours by tightening up some songs.
I was a huge fan of Deloused and saw them at the 9:30 Club way back in 2003, but I haven't really listened to their newer albums as much. Nevertheless, I was looking forward to seeing them again, and I'm glad I did.

Insane.
That is all.
Thank you very much for the extra ticket!

Singer sounds atrocious. He needs a bigger voice.

show was incredible. i walked out a believer. apparently, they ended early (no encore) because of cedric's voice. saturday's show in columbus, oh was postponed due to "illness." it's too bad people couldn't comply with a simple request.

i thought the show was great, but i wasn't that big a fan of the rams head layout. does anyone know if the capacity there is larger than 930?
-
Randomly, I stood behind one of the managers for Rams Head who filled me in on all sorts of info. Apparently, capacity is 1,500. The space is weird though. Pretty decent sight lines (we got there just prior to starting and had a great view), but walking in felt like I was visiting a chain restaurant. The bar was so brightly lit and fancy, I had trouble realizing I was in a rock club. I'd rather not go back.
Overall, the show was enjoyable. I don't think they've really found their live footing yet: I think the noodling transitions work well enough on record, but live it just kills the momentum. All said and done, I doubt I'd see them again, though they are quite a power-house when they hit their stride.
I can't help but think that the band is a split between a punk band and a Haight-Ashbury hippie jamboree. A weird juxtaposition, but I'm guessing it's why they have such a live reputation.
