By the way, The Event FAQ (http://http://www.liveonpenn.com/eventfaq.html) shows you what can and can't bring. I'll have my disposable camera handy.
-
Guided by Voices are playing the same day as Violent Femmes
-
this shows me how little I know about some venues in this area...where is this place 'live on penn'?
-
I've read somewhere that July 26 is They Might Be Giants.

it on pennslyvania avenue in dc, near the national gallery of art... imagine lots of concrete, intense heat and a 1000 of your closest friends drunk.
-
why all these ethnic themes when none of the bands are those ethnicities? or is it the food and drink vendors they will have that particular night?
-
July 26 - They Might Be Giants and Moe
-
On the Live on Penn website it now delineates -- Festivals 1 - 4 p.m.; Concerts 4 - 10 p.m. I think that's the answer -- the festival and it's theme have *nothing* to do with the bands.
Plus, the website now lists Guided by Voices on July 12 officially.
Woo hoo!!!!

Unfortunately,they're the opener.Guess they'll only get to play about 2 hours then instead of 3 : )
-
Here's who else has been added:
July 26th: Big Head Todd & the Monsters, They Might Be Giants, Arrested Development, Niki Barr, Bicycle Thieves
-
So I see that admission costs $3 (proceeds for charity)... Do you just pay when you get there? I can't imagine them selling tickets in advance for $3...
-
For the most part, these are a lot of washed up bands. Other cities that have festivals like this have better and more ecelectic acts.
-
So does that mean Rhett Miller will be playing there next? :p

Another mediocre solo album, and I'd say Rhett could garner some attention for a live on penn spot.

Isnt Live on Penn a step up from free at the Kennedy Center?

no, the most popular band in DC played for free at the Kennedy Center, Nickel Creek, if only it were Nickelback, then Sonick would be happy
-
but the Kennedy center was ill set up for that many people making it terrible. I am sure people will have a much better time live on Penn.
Hey big bad Bob, are you going to take me there Saturday?
-
Yes, I'm sure that a bunch of post-collegiate fratboy types stuffed into a small space under the heat of 90 degree weather will be so much more pleasant that the Kennedy Center.
-
At least you will be able to see the band.
Kennedy center sucks. Its like a massive chintzy coffin. Give me a view of the Hoover building over that everyday.
-
Well i will be there Saturday since i have nothing else to do. I wanna see if this setup is better then last years free shows.

Did anyone go to this thing last week? It says we can bring blankets and lawn chairs, but is there really grass to crash on? It's hard to tell from the map of the place if the directions of the stage works with that idea. Would rather not stand in the middle of the street.

Nah, I would just prefer to relax on a nice lawn blanket and make out with my girlfriend in front of all the old people.

What? Along the River of De Nile? :D
-
This has probably been covered countless times, but does anyone know what time Guided by Voices plays on Saturday? I'd like to try to make it, but I can't get there until a little later.
-
Best estimate, based on last week's show and word from someone in GBV's camp, is between 7 and 8. I'd think closer to 7 just because I think they'll play about an hour, and the Femmes will play 60 - 90 minutes. Shows over at 10, so counting backwards, puts Femmes on about 8:30.
-
Thanks a lot. I think I just may be able to make that. Anyone else going?

I was volunteering at the festival last week and there's no green space to speak off from what I saw in the festival area. Just 3-4 blocks of hot blacktop with drink and food stands on the sides.
-
hey, did anyone notice that rhett was on stage. . who knew that he knew how to play the guitar?
<img src="http://liveonpenn.com/20030712/medium/DSC_6076-VF-3.jpg" alt=" - " />

I dunno, it looks like you but with my chins and bad taste in clothes.
