I've only been there once and I can't remember exactly where everything was.
What is the best area to go to once you get in?
How early do you need to get there?
What time does the parking lot open? Last time I parked in some other little parking lot because I couldn't figure out where to park.

Depends on you and the show you're going to see. There really isn't a bad view in the club, unless you're in the bathroom.
How early do you need to get there?
Again, depends on you. If you want to secure a spot in front of the stage or on the rails upstairs on the balcony, get there when the doors open.

I'm going go to see Third Eye Blind....I'd like to get in the front row or the balcony rail towards the front....but I don't want to stand outside for along time either....I think it will be too hot.
Which way do you go when you get in the door to get up on the balcony?

well to be honest, you will have to get there earlier than most if you want to get a truly 'good' spot.. if you think that the band is worth it then you will stand outside a little bit longer, right? ;)
once you get in the door there are stairs to your left which take you up to the balcony

3 suggestions:
1)Fountains of Wayne is 20 bucks cheaper. Or just save the whole $35 and buy yourself something nice
2)Third Eye Blind will have a lot of fans, so if you want a good seat I'd say show up around 20-30 minutes before the show
3) If you can't stand the heat, move to Canada, or vote democrat and save the environment.

Extremely well said, on all three counts.

I personally think it sounds best by the mixing board out front. That is where the guy/gal who is mixing is standing so near them usually is pretty good. You don't want to be front and center if you actually want to hear the vocals and all that. Remember if you can not see the fronts of the speakers, you are not going to hear the treble.
Also, depends how tall you are, further back gives a bit better angle from the people in front, and the balcony is best.

It probably also gets plenty of Kilometers to the Litre. Wooo socialism!

i would say get there 45-1hr early. i got to the AFI show a little over an hour early and there was still a decent line. but AFI has better fans so i would still say 45 mins. make sure to use the restroom early or push once the show starts.

courtesy never hurts...

I second that bathroom suggestion. After driving an hour or so just to get there, I always have to make a pit stop once I arrive. Gets me through the show without any worries of my return to where I want to hang out. They are cleaner then too, but usually 9:30 restrooms are much cleaner than most out in clubland. And you know how badly some females can trash a restroom. Especially the 1st bitch who refuses to sit on the seat and splashes it up for everyone else who then have to add some more splashes until it's all over the seat and floor.
Just wish they would put the hooks back on the doors! (Big hint! :) ) It's a bitch trying to figure out where to put your purse without it touching the floor while you are doing your business. Same with jackets and such.

At first I would have preferred a Jetta, but I love my car now. How is Canada this time of year? Is the SARS out and blooming?

Seth, you rock.

Thanks for all the replies. I guess I will try to go up in the balcony or else by the mixing board.
And I am a registered Democrat...can that get me into the club early or anything?
::looks forward to hooks on the bathroom doors::

Awwwww, I don't like to push people and I don't like to be pushed. Hopefully I can get there at least an hour early...dreads the heat.
Well do I have to get there an hour early to get a good spot up in the balcony?????
:(

Are there any bars or restaurant near the 930 club?

LOL! You must be from out of town. ;)
There are plenty, not to mention what's available inside the club itself.

which isn't a bad thing, unless the house engineers are werking. touring engineers seem like they really like painful highs and muddying lows. maybe they've never heard of mid ranges?

All I can say is the better the choice of viewing location you want the earlier you should show up. We drive in from Richmond about once a month for a show and get to DC veru early. Park at the club and tool around DC on the metro for a while. The line all depends on the show. For the Deftones we were about 4th in line but by the time the doors opened it was two blocks down and around the corner for another couple of blocks or more. (What a show that was huh?) I tend to be there pretty early for all shows. I almost always am at 1) the rail, 2) balcony at the very front, or three the few bars stools at the back upstairs. All good places to see a show.
BTW the folks that run this place do one hell of a job. I have only been about a dozen or so times but not once have I seen any assholes of dickheads. I guess they know better! The staff treats everyone well and knows we are all there to have a good time. They seem to go out of their way to ensure a good time is had by all!
Im out...

I haven't been to many other clubs (not much of a need). But the one time I went to the E Factory, the help seemed really mean-spirited in general. There were a bunch of mean looking guys "monitoring" the stalls in the restroom. And then there was the guy at the bar at Irving Plaza who got incredibly offended when I asked about free water.
It does really seem like the folks at 930 (and the Black Cat) really care about the concertgoers.

By the way, Seth, I continue to bless you every time I'm at the club -- I always have a purse, and those hooks are crucial! Thanks again. ;)

Funny you bring this up. Saturday night after a show at the BC, I stopped by the 9:30 club. I claimed I would hug Seth when I got there.
The bathrooms at BC were horrific. Glass and water all over the floor. Only one stall working. It was a show.
And, I missed the hook(s). ;)

Stage in the front, bathrooms in the back, bar on either side. Glad to answer your questions one full year later.
