I'm going to justify this one with an computer that got left mute on WSC for an excessively long time. Although I do love the social club, it hasn't quite reached that level.

well, we all know that whatever is on last.fm isn't really indicative of what we all listen to
for example, i spend the majority of my days moping around, feeling this uncontrollable guilt about the wrongs my white brethren have committed against black people, native americans, and the like ... it helps to listen to garish "hip-hop" and "rap" music and try to identify with black culture
fortunately, i listen to all that music exclusively on CD, so it doesn't show up on last.fm! haHA!

Nice catch on the DCFC reference in the name though.

here's a question. what if you want to use that audioscrobber thingamabob on two different computers? my work and home? and one uses itunes and one uses windows media (my work wont let us have itunes)

I think you can activate it on two computers by just downloading the plugin on both and signing in. I don't think the format matters.

No problem. Download the Audioscrobber for iTunes at home and the Adioscrobber for WMP at the office. It's which account you associate the audioscrobber with that counts, not the player.
-
I don't even use it. I should, I guess. If I can remember my user name.....

it shouldn't be a problem ... you can get a scrobbler thing for your mp3 player as well ... the only thing you have to watch out for is a situation like this:
you listen to 20 songs on your iPod, then you go home and listen to 10 songs on your computer ... if you submitted the listening data on those 10 songs before you submit the 20 songs from your ipod, last.fm won't accept the iPod-listened-to songs
i dont know if that made sense, but if you are scrobbling from two different computers, just make sure the data is being submitted in real-time on each
-

Gaace is right.
The only time it's been a problem is when smackette is using iTunes at home and I'm using iTunes at the office. Last.fm will put a message on your member page that says Some tracks you submitted have not been added to your profile for the following reason: Spam protection triggered: You submitted a track dated earlier than your last submission.
It's designed to keep you from flooding and skewing the statistics. About half of the songs will register, but since it's not an exact science, it's not a big deal.

So that's why my ipod songs aren't showing up? If I sync my ipod with my computer before playing any music, they'll transfer?
My ipod reflects my music listening habits much more accurately because it goes everywhere with me, so I'll be interested in seeing what it changes on my charts.

i have such an absurdly enormous apartment (it's very very expensive, and in a very very cool part of the city) that my computer is set up way too far away from my kick-ass high end stereo ... i just hook my incredibly extravagant iPod into the stereo instead
-
Originally posted by Graace:

well, first you need the Jscrob2 (http://www.last.fm/forum/827/_/47398) plug-in, instead of the usual iTunes plug-in (assuming you have a PC) ... make sure you pay attention to the instructions with jscrob, you need to have a Recently Played list specifically titled "Recently Played", so it can recognize the songs you've played from your iPod when you sync up
the key is to turn "Enable Submissions" off when you sync your iPod and take it out to listen, then AFTER you sync your iPod and it updates your recently played, just turn "Enable Submissions" on again ... that way you don't trigger the "spam protection" that smackie was talking about ... sounds like a pain in the ass, but it becomes second-nature after a while

The rest of the world is going wireless. You should think about it. It's really cool - it renders wires and, in your case, really long distances, nearly obsolete.
Or are you waiting for the new Telecommunications act to tell you it's ok to go wireless?

i actually thought it would be a bit too blatantly ostentatious to go wireless, i don't like to show my wealth off like that ... the wires running around my house say: "hey, he's a normal guy, just like you or me"

Ding ding ding.
I never realized how skewed my top artists list was. That's what happens when you obsessively d/l out-of-print GBV b-sides and begin rebuilding your library complete with ratings and the like.
My weekly list usually shows a more reliable cross-section of what I'm listening too (at work, at least):
Sonic Youth 59
The Who 55

So your excited the departed members got back together. Not so sure Scotti Ian or my brother are that happy. Me, I wouldnt mind seeing Joey at lead one more time if they come back around. My favorite album has always been "Persistence Of Time".
-
Odd; I thought I had heard that a year or two ago, but I never saw confirmation and figured it was just a rumor. Are they touring with that line-up? I would go ape for that, especially if they threw in I'm The Man.
I pretty much lost interest after the Public Enemy track they did. I think the only classic line-up album I don't have at this point is Spreading the Disease, and I just got word that it's on it's way through lala.com.

It's not just a rumor, they've been touring with the old lineup for at least six months now. (It's also on their web site). They even played in this area either in Baltimore or JAXX awhile ago with the lineup, I didn't make that one though, I think I was out of town. They were much heavier with Bush at lead but both versions of Anthrax are great in my opinion. As for the PE song, it was great when it first came out, but now when everyone that doesn't know the music thinks of Anthrax, they think of that song.

i signed up for this last week and my charts dont really change, nor do they reflect on the 930 group's.
what gives?

i think individual charts update weekly ... and your charts wouldn't be affected by the 930 group charts

your INDIVIDUAL charts wouldn't be affected by what other people in the group play ... your individual charts are just that, what you listen to ... they update weekly, so your overall artists and weekly artists and stuff like that can be off for a while
the songs you listen to contribute to the collective group charts in all the groups you belong to

Give it a solid week to get it going. Then your listening habits will be exposed to the world to mock and ridicule. It's the best.
