Title: The Polyphonic Spree
Post by: RainBoots on April 19, 2004, 07:34:00 pm
I'm not sure if it's the band or some mind trick I'm playing on myself, but whenever I listen to these people, I get into this great mood. Do any of you know them and have anything to say? 'Cause I sure don't have anything more to say about them besides the great mood they get me thrown into.

Jason Lytle from Grandaddy loves them.  And thats good enough for me.

I love Polyphonic Spree.  Lyrics are basic or nonexistent but the music itself is at once catchy, clever, complex, and various other c's.

I just heard theyre playing Leno tomorrow.

I saw them last June when they played the 930 club.  It was a highly entertaining show.  Needless to say, I left club smiling.

They had two shows last June and they were great. 10x better live then listening to them on a CD. You couldn't help but have a huge shit-eating grin on your face the whole time. No DC dates right now, but If/when they come back I will be the first in line for tickets.

Was that them on Scrubs last night?

A bit too "Hall-Bob comet cultish" if you ask me. I can imagine someone finding them all dead on their tour bus with big smiley face masks on their heads.

That singer needs a good arse-kicking to wipe that fake smile off his face too.

I agree...they actually give me the willies with the 26 band members and the robes and the choral harmonies.  I saw them interviewed on "Subterranean," and it's just not my cup o' tea.

You should go to any given church every Sunday morning in SE DC then, and see the real thing.

Yes, that was them.

My reaction to them is the same as the Flaming Lips:  Too some extent they make feel really happy inside, and to the other extent they freak the hell out of me.

Maybe it's because I'm not a drug user, but I sort of enjoy being taken to both extremes in 90 minutes.  It gives me a lot to think about after I leave a show.  But that's just me.

On that note, the Spree looked a little out of place on Leno earlier in the week.  But enjoyed it nonetheless.

Have you heard the media advance on the new album?

They say such insightful things as:
It will be earthshattering and epic.
This is our first real album, the last one was not really meant to hit the market like that.
 You ain't seen nothin' yet.

Gawd, they're a little into themselves.  Eap.
