Title: Wireless Media Player
Post by: vansmack on July 18, 2005, 07:44:00 pm
This would have made Live 8 a totally different experience.  And it supports Napster!

  Dlink Wireless Media Player (http://www.dlink.com/products/?model=DSM-320RD&sCT=ConsumerPromoJuly05)

D-Link introduces the latest addition to its multimedia family of products: the D-Link MediaLoungeâ?˘ DSM-320RD Wireless Media Player with DVD and Card Reader. The DSM-320RD connects your home entertainment center to an existing network, allowing you to wirelessly stream music, photos and videos from the PC to your television and stereo system, all without running cables throughout the house.

Using 802.11g wireless technology, the DSM-320RD streams media content at a maximum wireless signal rate of up to 54Mbps*, thus delivering jitter-free audio and video. You can also stream media content via Ethernet at speeds of up to 100Mbps. The DSM-320RD integrates seamlessly with your existing wired or wireless network.

Using progressive scan technology, you can watch your favorite DVDs in high resolution (for high-definition and HD-ready TVs) with theatrer-like sound. In addition to DVDs, this DVD Player will also play SVCD, VCD, CD-R, DVD±RW, CD-RW, CD, and MP3 discs. Enjoy all the benefits a DVD player has to offer using the DSM-320RD. The DSM-320RD also features a built-in 5-in-1 card reader, which provides a fast and convenient way to view and share digital photos, music, and videos stored on a memory card. Insert the memory card into the card reader and your media content becomes just a click away. Popular memory cards, including SD, Memory Stick, MMC, and Compact Flash (Type I and II) are supported.

Get access to thousands of songs right from your living room. D-Link has partnered with premium online service providers such as AOL®, Live365, Napsterâ?˘, and Rhapsodyâ?˘ to bring you a large collection of CD-quality, commercial-free radio stations and PC music downloads. And now, with support for Windows® Media Connect (WMC), music files protected by Windows® Media Digital Rights Management (WMDRM) can be streamed from your PC to your living room. D-Link and AOL are also extending AOL's popular You've Got Picturesâ?˘ services beyond the computer and into the living room, allowing AOL for Broadband members to view personal photos, slideshows, and exclusive photos from AOL's various photo galleries on the TV via the DSM-320RD.

Setting up the DSM-320RD is simple, and with support for Windows® Connect Now, configuring the wireless settings is easier than ever before! Simply run the Wireless Network Setup Wizard from Windows XP Service Pack 2 and transfer the wireless settings to the DSM-320RD using a USB thumbdrive.

Experience digital media like never before with the MediaLounge DSM-320RD Wireless Media Player with DVD and Card Reader. The DSM-320RD provides instant access to digital music, videos, and photos â?? all from the comfort of your living room.

Not yet, and with the speeds of TiVo's wireless networking, you won't be soon. USB 2.0 will need to be activated (without a hack).

Nor does TiVo support audio files with DRM attached.  Of course, Apple won't license it out, but look for Microsoft to do so soon.

But they are working on it...

That's a simple software upgrade.  Look for a firmware update to support it soon.

Shocking, isn't it?  Optical digital audio output, component video, yet no SACD option!  And somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but that requires a different laser doesn't it?  So it can't be done with a software upgrade like DivX?

It would be much cheaper to get a video card for your system and run the cables off it into your tv.

I run a S-Video cable along with stereo out into my TV and then I can access anything off my laptop. Movies, Videos, Music, Web Browser it does it all.

 For a $12 S-Video cable it's much easier  ;)

What's the longest S-Video Cable you've seen?  My server is in the back of my closet, easily 50 feet away, not including door jams that I would have to go over.  And smackette loves it when I run wires all over the place....

Have you noticed that they appreciate the use of the technology, but never stop hounding you about the wires?

No, I mean what I envision is walking around in my house with my laptop that is playing my mp3s. I want to have a wireless a/v connection from the laptop going to my main stereo receiver.

What I am doing right now with my TIVO is essentially what this thing does does minus the video capabiliies.  It just serves up the files on my laptop so I can access them through the TV.

this is also audio only (not video), but i've had one for over a year (i've got a squeezebox1 not the newer one) and its a great company.  and its OPEN SOURCE, for those to whom that is important.

www.slimdevices.com. (http://www.slimdevices.com.)  i havent played a cd at home in over a year.
just lower the price recently as well.

Show me an affordable laptop that I can store 200 GB of mirrored data on I'll glady do it.  Otherwise, I'm content with my clunky old box (hiddem of course because it's ugly) with 200 GB mirrored storage for under $400.

One question.  Has the sound suffered due to it being wireless?  Any problems?  It says you get a remote.  Does that work in conjunction with the playlist or album that you are currently on?
