Happiness..... All of it, but specifically where the dad wakes up from a dream where he goes through a park on an M-16 rampage...... His shrink asks him about it and to paraphrase:
Shrink, "How did you feel after the dream?"
Dad, Really good, revitalised, this time I didnt kill myself."
The Shinning,, the kid on the trike going from carpet to wooden floor and back again on his trike.

All GREAT - you're very brave though for admitting to liking Say Anything. I take a lot of heat for loving that one.
A few of mine just wingin' it -
At the dinner table also from Say Anything when her Dad asks Cusack what he wants to do after graduating.
In 28 Days Later where Jim walks around a deserted London with the music building
The bar scene in Near Dark
The beginning to the original Night of the Living Dead ~ "They are coming to get you Barbara"
Any of the scenes with Paul Newman & Melanie Griffith in Nobody's Fool. Ok - when she flashes him. ;)
75% of Clerks.
The Baseball Furies bit in the Warriors
The baptism in O Brother Where Art Thou ~ "Gopher Everrett?"
Lisa Bonet shedding the Cosby Kid persona in Angel Heart - Bedroom - voodoo - sex scene.
And the entire begining to Dawn of the Dead 2004 - up to when she crashes the car. Intense & near perfect for the horror genre.

Oooh - I forgot about that one - I'd add the infamous 'ear' scene - SO tough to even watch, but he perfectly captures evil insanity.

alec baldwin's 5 minutes in glengarry glen ross
-
james earl jones' speech in field of dreams
just about all of the good, the bad and the ugly, but my favourite scene is when eli wallach finds the cemetery and start running through it
destroying the fax machine in office space
reggie jackson in the naked gun
in alexander nevsky, alexander is told of the german invasion into russia, and says in order to defeat the invasion "we must mobilize the peasants."
phoebe cates coming out of the pool in fast times at ridgemont high (smackie, disappointed in you)
the hansen brothers' first game in slap shot
principal rooney on the school bus at the end of ferris bueller's day off
when renton od's in trainspotting
the french taunting king arthur in the holy grail.

I know I've had my 10 (11 actually), but:
The conf room scene in Office Space when the consultants asked him about the work he's been missing - "I wouldn't actually say I've been *missing* it"
My new mantra.
& the first 15 min or so of Ferris Bueller are just brilliant.

-
American Grafitti - Looking out the airplane window and seeing the T-bird driving down the highway
Ferris Bueller - Ed Rooney getting on the schoolbus

Last Temptation of Christ - The crucifixion
Waiting for Guffman - At the end of the show when the town councilman screams "EEE!! CORKY!!!"

What a classic character. Yes, the opening is great as is the rest of the movie.

Dude, that's so not fair!! I was sitting at lunch with my buddy and I went "Hoy shit! How did I forget the Phoebe Cates scene in Fast Times?!?!?!?" I totally blew that. Well done Venerable. Also with james earl jones' speech in field of dreams, destroying the fax machine in office space, and the hansen brothers' first game in slap shot, all of which came up at lunch.
I'll add:
The "Down by the Creek, walking on water" scene from Tombstone, although any scene with Doc Holliday should be included.
The Bill Murray/Chevy Chase scene in the green house in Caddyshack
The Black Knight character throughout The Holy Grail
and....
The scene in Go when they're driving back from Vegas and the guys are running down all of the events that transpired the night before and at the end Breckin Meyer's character goes "You had sex with two women" - classic.

I have taken heat on this board before for stating that Say Anything is my favorite movie. Cameron Crow is at his best in that movie. His subtle writing brilliance from Say Anyhting has yet to be matched.
That is also a fantastic scene, delivered in classic Cusack-ease.
-
The Dog scene in Vacation.
Motorcycle Cop: Do you know what the penalty for animal cruelty is in this state?
Clark: No, sir, I don't.
Motorcycle Cop: Well... it's probably pretty stiff.

Office Space: When he is sleeping and his boss keeps calling. When they beat up the printer.
Fight Club: When Ed Norton beats himself up. And many, many moments.
High Fidelity: When John Cusack is setting up his vinyls for inventory. And when a customer comes into the cd store looking for...(who was it, Michael Bolton?) "Is your daughter in a coma?"
Almost Famous: When the plane is about to go down. "I'm gay."
Clerks: 100%
Ferris: 75%
Caddyshack: 100% "Be the ball." "You wore green so you could hide." Baby Ruth in the pool, gopher scenes, all classic.
Shawshank Redemption: When locks himself in the library and blasts music over the system.
The last 15 min. of the first Matrix.

"I Just Called to Say I love You" - a top 5 crime perpetrated by Stevie Wonder in the 80's.

Hah. Classic. thank you.
-
ha ha that's a great scene, from a wonderful movie.
-
Any of the music freaks on this board that haven't *read* High Fidelity should consider it required reading.
While the movie was good - the book is great.
It's perfect for the summertime. It isn't classic lit, but you should dig it.
I will refund your time if after reading it you do not agree.
-
I agree - High Fidelity = great book
Ok, good scenes in movie:
Marathon Man - where the nazi dentist is pulling out Dustin Hoffman's teeth...makes me cringe just thinking about it
Requiem For a Dream - Pretty much every scene...freaked the crap out of me...i will never watch it again, but i'll recommend it
Mike Meyers as his father talking about "the well known fact" that is the Pentaverate [sp?] in So I Married an Axe Murderer
The second iteration of Run Lola Run
The car chases in Ronin
I'll probably get made of here..but i love the opening sequence of the first Austin Powers
The dinner scene in Better Off Dead "franch fries, franch bread, franch dressing, and Peru!"
"Wheel of Fish" in UHF
ok, i can't think of any more

You should read Fever Pitch too, despite the fact that it's about an Arsenal fan. I read both Fever Pitch and High Fidelity once a year.
-
What about reading The Family Arsenal by Paul Theroux ?

"Bring out the gimp"
-
There's a bundle of favorite scenes in The Graduate. A few that come to mind are...
Ben is walking through the hotel with Elaine and everyone calls him Mr. Gladstone.
The entire wedding scene.
Ben's encounter with the hotel desk attendant.
-
How about:
12 angry men, when he brings out the knife and stabs it into the table....
The return of the King, where the woman chops the head off of the dragon and then kills the witch king....
-
i thought of a few more last night, all from one movie. . .
in the blues brothers. . .
1)they are at the fancy restaurant to get mr. fabulous to join them, and belushi turns to the table behind him and says "how much for the women? i want to buy your women" in a really sleazy accent.
2) ray charles shoots at a kid trying to steal a guitar. . .
3) steven spielberg as the cook county clerk on lunch break
