I want to see the Polyphonic Spree here again, and I've been liking and listening to quite the bunch of Ben Kweller stuff. Where is Modest Mouse?
-
Anna Waronker
Scout
Tegan & Sara
Big Star w/ Ken & Jon
Jason Falkner
Queens of the Stone Age
Tommy Keene
Spoon
Urge Overkill
The Wrens
I'm sticking with bands I haven't seen @ the new 9:30, and bands that are around, together and could tour. You know, to be realistic about it (and not get in to a whole "if this band could reunite" thread again!)
Seth, maybe Big Star's gonna tour soon??!!?? :D
-
oh yeah, spoon for sure.
sleater-kinney :o
-
I'm rather desperate to see Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds at the 9:30 Club again.
TV on the Radio would be great. Better than the Black Cat's Backstage surely.
Garbage is always welcome in my book.
Zwan would be divine.
I guess Radiohead would be unrealistic, but that would be awesome.
Ditto for the White Stripes. The White Stripes at the 9:30 Club would be a much better concert than last autumn's George Washington University concert.
-
Pixies
Snow Patrol again. :)
QOTSA/FF
TV on the Radio would be cool
The Talk
The Never
Spoon - good reminder
-
oh and Endochine

would love for him to come back as well
other choices, not including bands who don't have enough draw for 9:30:
GBV
Modest Mouse
Golden Smog
Postal Service
Von Bondies
-
Immodest Rodent
The Lightness
Guided By Choices
Life Taxi For Ugly
Kings Of The Bronze Age
Slush Squad
4 Non Blonde Von Bondies
Justin Timberlake
-
Andrew WK is long overdue.

Encochine is at the Birchmere 4/26 and Rams Head 4/25 opening for Bob Schneider.

Yup on Birchmere, nope on Rams Head (they had to cancel, but Bob is still performing.)
A surprise visit from Prince would be cool.
-
Pixies
Iggy / Stooges
Leonard Cohen
Willie Nelson
Brian Wilson
Van Morrison
-
Ditto on Pixies and Spoon.
Wilco, June 9th, '04.

I've always been a fan of Van the man, but never seen him live. More than a few who have tell me not to bother it will spoil it for me. evidently he's a miserable twat who just walks out on stage, sings a few songs without even looking at the audience let alone interracting with them, then fucks off again.
That's why I've never made the effort to see him in concert.
-
I'd rather see my favorite bands at the Black Cat or Iota, or outdoors in a non-smoking venue, but I reckon both Wilco and Old 97's will be playing 9:30 club in the next few months, so I'd like to see them (at $25 or less).

OOOH!!

or better yet - together for that $25.
Wilco can even be the opener

You trendy uber cool hipster scenester you!
I guess you're taste is up your arse though seeing how the 930 wins the best small concert venue year after year.
-
1) Pixies
2) Pixies
3) Pixies
4) Pixies
oh yeah, and
5) Pixies
I think I need to keep dreaming. They'll probably get booked by IMP at Bender Arena. I'm really praying that they don't do the Patriot Center though. That would be a MAJOR disappointment. I'd even settle for the Smith Center at that point. But the 9:30 is where they really should get booked.

robbie williams with support from puressence

Myself :(
-
- Oasis
- Elbow
- My Bloody Valentine (once re-united)
- The Cure
- Cartel

I actually did see Wilco and the Old 97's play the 9:30 Club together a few years ago. I think it was maybe $15. Old 97's opened. Anybody else there?

Not me - I did see Slobberbone open for the Old 97's many years ago. One of the few unknown opening acts to really blow me away.
-
I had the same experience seeing the Bottle Rockets open for Matthew Sweet at the old 9:30 club. That may actually have been the first alt-country show I ever saw...by accident, as I was totally there to see M. Sweet.

I saw him last year on a beautiful night in Boston -after witnessing an afternoon red sox win I must note!
I agree with you to an extent: I certainly would put him in the category of somebody I would rather have seen many years ago.
But while e aint what he used to be, he was way too into some of his jazz type stuff, it was still great to see him. Didnt ruin/spoil what I was hoping for at all. And the great Solomon Burke opened for him.
-
It might sound repetitive, but
Talking Heads
Pixies
The Pogues
Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers
Pavement
Sonic Youth (the whole Dirty album would be great)
-
Already got my top wish - HIM is playing next month. Others on the wishlist -
Muse
Kill Hannah
Bowie
The Real MacKenzies
The 69 Eyes (though I have no hope they'll ever tour America)
-
Broken Social Scene
Franz Ferdinand (yay!)
The Wrens
Libertines
Ikara Colt
The Streets
Spoon
Dizzee Rascal
Ted Leo & the Pharmacists
-
diana degarmo
-
Manic Street Preachers
-
Catherine Wheel (if reunited)
Lush ( ditto...minus the drummer who killed himself)
Prince ( late show after his 2 MCI gigs...he did it once after a Cap Center gig)
Iggy Pop ( he was GREAT a couple of years ago)
many others....

Hopefully they'll come sometime in '05 with the next album. I think the last time they were here was 1999

Have they ever been to DC for a proper gig? Only time I know of was when they opened for Oasis at the Nissan Pavilion.

They played the 9.30 club in September of 1999. I'm pretty sure that was the last time. They are *well* overdue. Luckily, I think not enough people care about them in the US, so if they *do* come I'm guessing they would play the 9.30 club. They fill stadiums pretty much anywhere else.

By pretty much everywhere else you mean England? I think not too many people care about them in other European countries.

True, although they have a curiously strong following in Scandinavia and are of course 'big in Japan'. And then they also toured Cuba which is pretty cool.

flawd,
I sat next to this guy from GWAR (well, the guy who plays the character at least) at an Iron Maiden concert last summer. It was muy bizarro.
beefcake the mighty (http://www.gwar.net/mythos/bios/beef/index.php?gwarsid=5e5f6def83100781e8b988952790920f)
Beef is an arrogant bastard with absolutly no regard for feelings of others. No one likes him and he wouldn't have it any other way. His ill temper and egotistical vanity make him the perfect rock star. He feels everyone is intitled to his opinion and if you don't like it you can fuck off. As the late great George C. Scott one said, "Get that fat asshole out of my dressing room, he's puking on my wife."
Strangely - he was nothing like his character. He was way too nice. He invited us to come back stage at their next local show - only I'm too scared. :D

Someday you might get your wish...kind of:
In a recent interview, Greg Dulli had this to say about the Gutter Twins tour:
The next time "we tour, we will perform songs from the Gutter Twins, the Twilight Singers, Mark's solo stuff, the Screaming Trees, the Afghan Whigs -- and any other covers that we've done along the way," says Dulli. "We'll be able to pick from a couple hundred songs."
