So my roommate presented me with an interesting challenge last night...
Create a mixtape with the best rock/pop/R&B vocal performances of all time. Curious to see what folks here would put on it...
To clarify, we deliberately excluded jazz, opera, and classical music from this list.

Leaping to mind with no filter:
A House "Call Me Blue:
Replacements "Unsatisfied"
REM "Find the River"
Iron Maiden "Aces High"
The Who "Won't Get Fooled Again"
Slayer "Raining Blood"
Sugarcubes "Birthday"
Black Flag "My War"
-
I came up with four that I was fairly sure I'd include:
The Beatles - Twist and Shout
Imogen Heap - Hide and Seek
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
Marvin Gaye - Let's Get It On
-
for rock/pop i'm thinking you'll need something from Jellyfish, The Posies, Teenage Fanclub ELO, Queen but can't think of a specific songs at the moment.
for soul Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Four Tops
Temptations - Papa Was A Rollin Stone
Staple Singers - "I'll Take You There"
Otis Redding - "Sitting on the dock of the bay"
-
Quick list . ..
Van Morrison - Sweet Thing
Jay Farrar - Windfall
Axl Rose - Sweet Child O Mine
Kurt Cobain - All Apologies
Eddie Vedder - Long Road
David Bowie - Rock and Roll Suicide
Bon Scott - Highway to Hell
John Lennon - Strawberry Fields
