I thought this could use it's own thread....
Tower Records To Be Liquidated
By Ed Christman, N.Y.
Tower Records, the music industry's most famous retail brand, will be liquidated beginning tomorrow (Oct. 7).
After a 30-hour auction, the process was won by the lead-bidder, Great American, who put together a consortium of other suitors who were bidding on different components of the retailer. The winning bid was $134.3 million.
??It's a sad day for the music business and I feel badly for all Tower employees," says Jim Urie, president of Universal Music Group Distribution. "Tower was probably the greatest brand that will ever exist in music retail.?
In court Michael Bloom, a partner with Philadelphia law firm Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, the law firm that represents the secured trace creditors committee, questioned if the winning bid was the best one. Bloom pointed out that one of Trans World's partners, Hilco Merchant Resources, LLC., upped its bid by $500,000??after the auction closed??thus matching Great American's bid. Bloom claimed the Trans World bid was more beneficial for the 2700 Tower employees and all the trade creditors.
But U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Brendan L. Shannon ruled in favor of the Great American bid, noting it was important to vindicate the Chapter 11 auction process.
There is a chance Tower Records could live on via Tower.com. Norton LLC, part of the Great American consortium, put up $3.8 million to acquire Tower.com and Pulse Magazine.
Out-of-business sales at Tower's stores will begin tomorrow.

No word yet. They just made the annoucement about an hour ago.

I happen to work down the street from a Tower Records. So I walked in and asked them about the big liquidation sale tomorrow.
Turns out the manager hadn't told the staff yet. So, suffice it to say, that was a little awkward.
-
Well until it about 40% off it's not worth looking unless they have stacks of choice boxsets. When the Annapolis store closed I held off a week or so and still ended up with a stack o' bargins. Those tasty import compliations on the cheap made it worth the trip...

ahahahaha!
"So, how are the employees taking this whole liquidation th...em...oh."
-
The liquidation discounts will begin at:
Magazines = 30% off
Books = 20% off
Everything else = 10% off
I haven't shopped at a Tower in ages. However, I've purchased vinyl through their online presence a few times. Their prices weren't that great.

Looks like next weekend might be a good time to go shopping, eh? It's weird my dad and I were talking about going record shopping. Maybe next weekend, I'll go to the store in rockville and buy a crap load of stuff.
ps- is there any good places in DC to go album shopping? i've been meaning to ask this. I'm dying to buy some music.

What!!!! If it was any good it wouldn't have gone belly-up.
It was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay behind both Virgin and HMV.
-
So does this liquidation sale mean that Tower will start reasonably pricing its CDs for the first time in its existence?
Also... that's horrible that the employees didn't know yet. What an asshole way to manage people.
-
Where's that person who argued with me that this was never gonna happen??.....the doctor is ALWAYS right! Let the liquidation sale begin!
-
Tower Records was a huge icon and destination for me growing up, but lost its usefulness over time.
Despite high prices, Tower was supposedly the place to go for deep catalog. Yet in the past few years when I bothered to go, they rarely had any catalog I was looking for. I was on a 60s/70s songwriter kick, and when I went looking for Ochs, Nico, Hardin, Wainwright, et al the Tower downtown rarely had more than 1 disc for any of these guys despite each having lots (in many cases 10+) of in-print albums. They also used to have lots of imports. When I went looking for the Japanese Matthew Sweet impoert a few years ago, no dice...eventually you just stop bothering. Why NOT order online or have the fine folks at Melody or Olssons get it for you in 3 days?
I also had no more need for expensive $12 import singles with one bonus track, the sort of thing I used to spend plenty of money on there. While I still always buy albums, I could no longer justify $12 for one bonus track and dl'ed that sort of thing.
Couple that with very high prices and no used CDs, and what good was Tower? They DID have an excellent zine/magazine selection, where else can you regularly find Found magazine around town? But other than that, they seemed to be stubbornly sticking to their outdated model without any effort to update or be a competitive, appealing place to shop...
-
Has anyone swung by the DC Tower, on another forum they were reported as doing business as usual on Sat.... Maybe it was one of the few places that was sold separately. It could be that it actually made money given it's location and the little competition in the DC area.
It seemed to me that Tower could have been more intelligent in what they stocked. As Bellenseb points they carried a lot of tres expensive imports, it always amazed me to see that entire aisle of imported dance, trance, club, etc music in stock at the Rockville store. How many people buy that stuff on a whim.
They could also have easily created a Classical/Jazz speciality store in DC vs having the inventory carried in triplicate. I would guess buyers of that type of music would be more likely to buy at a retail outlet.
-
I passed through the DC Tower on Sat and didn't see any sales. In fact, that rack with the current top 20 albums looked different to me... I thought it usually said "top 20 always on sale" and it didn't this time... so I picked up one of the CDs and the sticker on the back said $16.99. Maybe they're nixing the regular discounts in prep for the storewide discounts
Maybe it was one of the few places that was sold separately.
Sold? I think it's space leased from the company that owns 200 Penn
-
When will it affect the online tower records?
http://www.towerrecords.com (http://www.towerrecords.com)
-
On some other site it was mentioned that some of the tower assets where sold in a seperate transaction...

Maybe, but I never trust the sticker price on their cds. Especially stuff on the endcaps. They're often on sale without being physically marked-down. If I think something's too expensive, I take it to the counter and ask them to price-check it.
But you may be right. I wouldn't be surprised if they marked everything at full list-price, then started their 20-30-40% off sale.
-

It's illegal to mark stuff up for a liquidation sale so that, say, 20% off is actually just 10% off the previous price. The company that bought Tower specializes in liquidation. Plus, the amount of labor required to change all of the price tags would be enormous and very time consuming. Besides, most of the CDs are already at full list.
-
Lot of things look different already. The top 20 as noted, no ticket sales, and jacked up prices. Took my daughter so that she could use her gift cards that she had been accumulating. I was pointibng out that she could get much better deals elsewhere but use 'em or lose 'em. Will definitely wait until prices come down (if they do).
-
What is my coworker who had given me a Tower gift certicate at Xmas for the last 9 years going to do?

Look for a Virgin megastore when they open

A perfect example of a business pricing themselves out of existance, especially in the computer age with real competition.
Personally, I couldn't give a fly's ass about Tower. With that said, I do not at all like the concept of buying MP3s and am concerned about the future of a walk-in music store of any company. Sure, it's great to get them online but there is also a special delight in spending a lazy afternoon in a store where you can wander the aisles stumbling across so many different selections that you eventually have to pick and choose.
-
i can tell you that the alexandria store is definately sold to the liquidation company

Yeah, don't go looking yet for Annapolis discounts. They had to sell that inventory fast because their lease was expiring.

I stopped in the Fairfax location today to find the new Lemonheads CD priced at 18.99. At 10% off thats still like... Way to much for a 34 minute CD. The main reason i went in was to get tickets to see the Twilight Singers @ the Black Cat, but the ticketmaster is shut down... So it was a pretty big waste of time. Fuck 'em.

Check this out from Amazon:
The Lemonheads by The Lemonheads (Audio CD - 2006)
Buy new: $17.98 $13.99 In Stock
Used & new from $7.78
Looks to me like Tower's off is a misprint and more like an up considering that the $17.98 figure is list price. By the time you figure Tower's with tax vs Amazon's with shipping, you'll probably weigh in at about the same with maybe Amazon beating Tower by about 10%. (No, I did not run the figures.) Hell, go for the new and used and you are sure to get the better deal!
Crap, paying $18.99 (with or without the 10%) for an import is one thing but for a new domestic release, that's just ridiculous! So much for that law suit a few years ago concerning the over pricing of CDs! The labels still just don't get it while they continue to blame the downloaders or anyone else they decide to pick on. I know they have overhead but drop their prices a little and they are sure to move more product, especially at a time when so many people are cutting discretionary spending due to necessities going up so much.
-
are these discounts final? or are we going to see 40% off cds at some point? WTF is 10% off a $14.99 cd...
-
I'm sure the 40% will come. Just be patient!

When I went at lunch 2 days ago, there was PLENTY of stock left. So I think everyone is waiting for the 40%.
-

I had an interesting conversation with the music buyer at Politics and Prose who are slowly but surely beefing up their CD selection....still tiny compared to a 'proper' CD store but not bad for what is primarily a bookstore.
Problem is most CDs are full list price....$17.98 and I was telling him that while I liked their selection there was no way I would ever pay $17.98 for a CD....he said they need to sell them at that to make any money which I doubt because Ollsons and Revolution routinely sold stuff for $13/14....although Revolution is out of business now so maybe that speaks for itself
95% of their clientele are rich boomers so they probably couldn't care less if a CD is $18....
-
Yes, I fully understand that the retailer must make a little money (and a lot in DC!) but my problem is on the label's end.
We've been through all this before and it always seems that $12 ends up being about the fair price that the consumer is willing to spend. The DIYers often do it for about $10-$12 but they don't have quite the overhead; however, they also don't have the advantage of bulk prices on their end for their needs.
Same old arguement and the same people end up losing out when these prices are too damned high. Even though the better off professionals couldn't care less about how much they pay, it's the rest of us whom they need to factor into their equation if they all want to stay afloat; otherwise, we all lose out in the end for a few extra dollars that lasts for only so long.
I still firmly believe that any retail music store in the DC area now needs to supplement their income by combining as both a music store and something else. It's sort of innovative but definitely doable with the right combination of creative and business minded owners.
-
yeah, such low discount. Borders regugarly issues 20% off coupons off any single item. troll around on dealnews.com to find them. This tower thing is hardly a steal.
-
15% off at Foggy Bottom yesterday...zzzz...somebody please let us know when it's up to 40-50%!
-
anyone know what the discount is this week? if any?
-
just popped into the one in fairlakes..its still 15%
-
I think I read somewhere that the liquidation would be taking place "throughout the holiday season." So it may be awhile until the true bargains.

I would pop in around 25%. That's when the good box sets really start to go, as well as many special editions, e.g. paper sleeve imports. 40% will get the rest going. And don't wait too long or dealers will suck up all the good stuff (CDepot spent over $20K at Annapolis because at 50% off the prices were lower than their wholesalers).
-
So that's where they got their huge, but shitty inventory?

Isn't it time for CDepot to mark down some of the gazillion Collective Soul, Third Eye Blind and Better Than Ezra used copies in inventory? Hello, $1.99 bin? They should take some cues from CD Cellar.
-
Just thought I'd post the latest from the Penn. Ave. Tower (as of lunchtime today):
CDs and DVDs are 20% off the lowest price, but it doesn't seem like much has been marked down so it's basically off the list price.
Also, for what it's worth, magazine's are now 40% off.
-
FairOaks Tower also has 20% off cds, 40% off mags...
-
Any discount updates? I'm waiting for at least 30%.
-
Alexandria Tower as of Thrus:
- No change in discounts.
- The 7.99 bargin bins are gone, everything that was normally in them (Belle & Sebastian, Ramones, Echo, Clash, Cash) is now up to full list price
- The end caps are now stocked with standards (Stones, Floyd, Beatles) that are priced at 14-17. So about 12 with the discount.
- The last New Release inventory was bought 3 weeks ago
- Conclusion: No "real" bargins yet
I picked up a Hawkwind import and a BJM I didn't have, they came to 12 each with the discount.

A friend of mine picked up a Rilo Kiley album she did not have at the Tower in Rockville and sure enough, it was scratched up and did not play. When she tried to bring it back she was told "All sales are final." Yeah, guess I won't be buying anything from Tower until the CD get a lot cheaper just in case this happens agan.

Tell her to take it back again and inform them that they have to issue refunds for defective merchandise if a replacement is unavailable. That's not policy, it's basic law.

-
rockville 30% off dance, latin and rap/hip-hop CDs, 25% off the rest.. looks like there will be plenty to choose from as the discounts rise..
-
30% off now.
-
i really dont understand why anyone would go to tower to shop even with these discounts as theyre going out of business. their selection isnt even all that great, pre-liquidation. awesome, 30-40% off cds/dvds/books...etc. so now i guess theyre now approaching regular prices of best buy, amazon, and other large chains. especially their dvds. i went to tower for the first time ever a couple of days ago and was really surprised to see how ridiculous their prices were and how many people were going nuts buying baskets full of shit. i have no idea how theyve been getting by all these years. i knew people in around this dc/metro area are rich, but i didnt know they were such idiots.

1. Many people like to get things now, not several days later.
2. Tower carried tons of stuff not carried at Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart, Borders, etc.
3. They were cheaper than FYE, Sam Goody and other mall stores.
Sure, the selection of good stuff is dwindling, but what do you expect?
-
30%-off generally puts them below most of Amazon's prices. You're not exactly getting the bargain-of-the-century, but it's definitely a good deal.
Today I bought 2 dvds and 2 cds. It came out to about $10 cheaper than Amazon.

i have only been in west coast towers. it seems like their base prices are very expensive. by the time you factor in the discount you can get the same item for the same price if not cheaper at amoeba, etc.

30% off cds, but for some reason on Tue/Wed you get an extra 10% off of cds.

I wish everyone would just wait for 60%. If there was an implicit agreement that everyone would wait until 60%, then we'd all get what we want, at a better savings.

Yeah, good luck with that.... Last Saturday in Rockville, all that was left of The Who was "Face Dances" and "It's Hard."

I waas at that one last week. The only Talking Heads they had left was about eight copies of '77. At least they had the best left.

yup just back from the rockville tower, took the plunge for some the expensive imports i've been eyeballing... Appears to be lots to choose, whether of not any of it's worth getting. Went to the Tower Records location in Foggy Bottom 2 days ago (ah, recalling the days of my youth!) and bought a lot of music DVDs (40%), and a few CD singles (now 70% off). Definitely good buys.
Sad to see the demise of this place, where (as mentioned above) I spent a WHOLE lot of time (and money) many years ago.
Cheers

Just got back from Tower in Fairfax. They have CDs at 40% off and buy 4 get 1 free. Maybe buy 1 get 1 free is only in Rockville? Fairfax stock is starting to dwindle, but they still have a lot more than Rockville. I picked up:
Editors - The Back Room $7.79
Longwave - There's A Fire $7.79
Mates of State - Bring it Back $8.99
Lemonheads - S/T (New one) $11.39
Sonic Youth - A Thousand Leaves 5.99/Free
I guess now is the time. I really wanted to get some Johnny Cash stuff but it is pretty much gone. Weezer & U2 are completly out.
I also purchased the Big Fish DVD at Best Buy today for $2.99. Quite a day!
-
It's buy four get one free at Rockville too. I was there around noonish. . alot of stuff was gone, all the Sonic Youth, Pavement, etc. Lots of imports and singles left, and a lot of crap. I managed to pick up some of the stuff I missed over the course of the year, maybe my best of list will me modified. .
-
Pretty much everything I wanted was not there but i picked up the the Jimmy Buffet Live at Fenway for my mom, the latest Cat Power for my wife, and she got the latest Camera Obscura and a few David Bowie disks.
I believe the people working there have just given up trying to keep disks in order.
-
How much percentage off are the action figures at Rockville?
-
I think the Seth action figure is 5% off.
-

Yeah, I decided not to ask for anything I may be looking for :p ...Plus, the employees I saw were slightly grumpy. (Can't blame them, I guess.) One guy mumbled something about Ticketmaster being a pain in the ass b/c people would come in for tickets and never shop.
I only looked at books thus far. Shakespeare, Health/Personal Growth, and Travel sections still have a lot of inventory. :p
Anyone know if the Rt. 7 store is picked over?

I might head back this week. Is the buy 4 get 1 free over? I bet since the day of your post things have moved a bit more.
Curious:
-Did you see a few Lemonheads' cds?
-I'm also looking for Damien Rice...

They had the Lemonheads album at the Alexandria Little River Turnpike location, as well as some porn. I didn't purchase either.

I just returned from a particularly useful trip to the Foggy Bottom Tower. I was surprised and happy to see so many good discs there. Seemed like most of the boring mainstream discs were gone, and most of what was left were the more interesting obscurities. Was also amazed at how many imports they have there. I'll go back when the prices drop more to pick up some of those. For the moment though, I bought:
new Califone
new Calexico
new Bronx
new Dears
Riverboat Gamblers
Be Your Own Pet
Phonix
Heartless Bastards
new Sleepy Jackson
Margot & Nuclear So-Sos
Live 2cd Gomez
CSS
newish Futureheads
new Hold Steady
Radio Dept.
-
I am under the impression that I am the only person to actually purchase the Lemonheads cd at the Fairfax store. I went there when it came out to buy the cd, but an $18.99 price tag quickly chased me away. It doesnt look like they have any less on the shelf than they did that day (except for the one that I finally bought). I garuntee they will have it there.

At 40% off $19, you're still not getting any kind of bargain. You could match the prices by just sitting at your computer and ordering off of Amazon used. And you wouldn't have to put up with the horrible "music" they play over their sound system.

Not all discs are $19. All of the discs I bought ultimately cost less than $8, except for the double-disc one, which was maybe 9 bucks. At least at the Foggy Bottom store, it's 40% off, and then an additional %20 off, which made everything fall into the range of $6-$8 each.
-
How did you get the additional 20% off? Are you factoring in the buy four get one free deal? Is that deal every day now? The store I was in last week said it was just Thurs and Fri only.

This is at the FG store, and they had hand-written signs around saying all rock CDs were an additional 20% off, and the cashier confirmed it.
And the buy four/get one deal is no more; it was just this weekend. I wish it would've still been going.

Did the extra 20% off appear to be a one day thing, or do you think it will continue? That might make it worth my time...

My guess is that it will be ongoing, at least beyond today. I don't have much to base that on though, just my suspicion since they're trying to move this stuff out.

And I'm guessing that the extra 20% off is after the 40% is applied, making the overall discount 52%? Check yr receipt.

That was the case when I got an extra 15% on top of 30% (meaning the total savings was less than 45%...I'm too lazy to do the exact math.)

I bought some cds this morning at the Foggy Bottom store. The total discount came out to 58% off. Average price I ended up paying per cd was $7. Pickins are starting to get slim though so I'd head on over there and see what you can salvage.

Rockville is also doing the extra 20% off rock/pop cds. Rap/hip-hop is 70% off. dvds are 40% off - no extra 20% on those.
They seem to be restocking occasionally. The shelves below the regular racks have been replenished a bit. There are still a few surprises to be found if you dig around.
-
What about country, world and jazz? Are they still just 40% total?
-
I didn't look at those sections.
-
Originally posted by Steny Hoyer, Pubic Destroyer:

-
The jazz section at FG was same as the rock section. If you're a hiphop fan, you're in luck because those are 70% off. I keep hearing about T.I. (all the hipster sites are raving about it, of course) so picked up his new one for about four bucks.
Also picked up
Hot Chip
Silversun Pickups
Rye Coalition
Longwave
-
cool, thanks.

What percent off are toys?
-
50% today but no additional discounts
picked up
Midlake
The Forecast
The Mendoza Line
South
Mia Doi Todd
Sondre Lerche
Dirty Pretty Things
Secret Machines
There a few copies of Luke Haines is dead but won't be worth picking up until the discount hits 60-70% - its almost $40
-
What percent off are the action figures?
Won't someone please answer this for me? Maybe I will have to go to Rockville to get the straight dope..?
-
Toys were 40% off the other day I think. Maybe 50% now?
I picked up:
Joseph Arthur-Our Shadows Will Remain
Pernice Brothers-Live a Little
Strays Don't Sleep-Self-Titled
One more copy of Joseph Arthur's Nuclear Daydream left at Foggy Bottom for one lucky person.

Fairoak was only 40% off the toys
70% hip hop
50% on most everything else.

I just got back from Rockville. I picked up a Killer Klowns figure, a Hip Hop Cartman, A Darkman...& Wonder Showzen the 1st season, a DVD "The Trial Of Lt.Calley" starring Harrison Ford. Philip K.Dick's book UBIK. A coupla Sports Illustrated swimsuit DVD's to give to the disabled fellas I work for 4Xmas. A Tabitha Stevens porno DVD. I like Tabitha because she looks like a clone, like she was created from some petri dish. The straight porno section was about ¾'s gone.
<img src="http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/team_dupek/56a3585b.jpg" alt=" - " />
Though I should note that the gay porn section was still well stocked, so if you are into that Tower Rockville's yer place. As for CD's, there was no Zappa. No James Brown. No HawkwinD.

As of now, yes. They were sold separately in the Bankruptcy and are not part of the liquidation scheme.

Is any Tower going over 50% off for pop/rock CDs?
-
foggy bottom seems stuck there - just called today to check
-

Eventually they will, but the pickings will be slim at that point.
Timing is important on those discounts. Great American Group is handling the liquidation of Tower Records and they have a 6-8 week plan from the middle of October to close all of the stores. That means they may not be open through Xmas, or they may have a ridiculous "take it all" sale the day after Xmas. You never know.
-
Did anyone even know that Tower Rockville had gay porn?
-
I've heard they're planning on closing down by "mid-December". My guess is they'll just keep dropping the price 10% per week until Xmas, then write the rest off.
-
Just went to Landmark Tower today.. dvds 50%, cds 60%, etc.
$300 later we walked out with:
My roommate got one APC dvd, some random Japanese horror flick, and a Jet cd.
I picked up a Hanson DVD, Earl Scruggs Documentary, Dream Theatre DVD, and Semisonic Import for gifts..
I got (as my christmas gift):
cds..
Kathleen Edwards - Back To You and Failer
Matt Nathanson - At The Point
Rachael Yamagata - Happenstance
Anna Nalick - Wreck Of The Day (le)
Gomez - How We Operate
Josh Rouse - Subtitulo
DVDs:
Bulletproof Monk (sp ed)
Little Britain: Complete First Series
The Boat Is Full (WWII movie)
Gray Matter (Also WWII Documentary)
Dolls (looked good)
DJ Shadow - In Tune.. live (lost my copy when I moved)
Shopgirl
Rush Chronicles (replacing VHS copy, lol.)
Keane - Strangers
Gin Blossoms - Just South of Nowhere
Something Corporate - Live at the Ventura Theatre
Into The West series
Multiplicity
Drop Dead Fred
Tristan and Isolde
yeah... so there's still a lot of stuff there. I didn't make it through all the CDs.
-
Was there still bareback Gay Porn available, and boat -loads of it?

Pet Grief. I like it a lot. It's kind of got that hushed menace sound of J&MC's Darklands.

Tower Foggy Bottom had a $2 managers special on a number of overstock items. I bolstered my World/pseudo-World collection with cd's by:
Bebel Gilberto (2)
Zuca 103
Dengue Fever
a Brazilian comp
Cibelle
Karsh Kale
Im probably forgetting one or two...
and I got the Thom Yorke album for $5.

Ah, yes. That is a good one.
If you like Radio Dept., you should check out my friends' band, Hearts Of Black Science. They sound a lot alike but I think they are a bit more versatile than Radio Dept. without getting lost.
-
Alexandria Tower is pretty well picked over. I got the last Hawkwind. No more Wilco, XTC, DBT, Brian Jonestown or The Jam. There is still plenty of standards such as Bowie, The Beatles, Stones and some Sonic Youth and Elliot Smith.
I was told that Tysons' Tower is getting 50K more albums to liqudate before closing.

Absolutely. It is PKD's best.

Drove past the rockville store and noticed that they had a 60-80 percent off sign up. Two dollar manager special on CDs.
-
Went to the Rockville Tower after work... If you are looking for a Six Degree's comp you in luck as they have hundreds of them for a couple bucks.
I find some interesting things in the preview section for three bucks including the DVD audio version of Refused "The Shape of Things to Come" which I'll be a few of you would like to crank up...
As usually those expensive imports ended up in my stack including a $40 Bluetones singles collection marked down to $16, the excellent new Roddy Frame solo album and the Mystery Jets.
Still about a dozen or so things worth getting in the Pop/Rock sections that I may go back to pickup when the percentage goes up again, which maybe pretty soon as the employee said he thinks the store will be closed around the 15th.

Anybody know what the % off is as of today, Saturday, on rock cd's?
Can someone please post when it hits 70% and 80%?
-
I stopped in Fairfax yesterday... I'm really building my Sonic Youth collection at a good price, got Rather Ripped for like 6 bucks. I heard someone in the store say the last day will be 12/22... That could just be Fairfax, dunno bout the others.
-
i got 'the holy bible' by the manic street preachers for fifteen dollars. and 'bitter tea' by the fiery furnaces for six dollars.
-
At the Tower in Rockville Rap/Hip Hop Cds are $1.50. The cds are very picked thru, but i got a copy of the new Mr. Lif album Mo Mega (which is one of my favorite albums from this year).
-
Just got back from the Tower near Tyson's Corner. It is done. I spent 35 minutes browsing in there and all I could find that was worth getting was "The World of Arthur Russell." It was $10--marked down from $26. Nice. Signs say last 10 days.
If you are looking for DVDs you'd better want "Get Rich or Die Tryin'," or the 2nd and 3rd seasons of "Newlyweds."
-
I went to the tower in Annandale off of little river turnpike today and got a few CD's.
I got a Bowie double disk import, The Streets, Abdel Wright, Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise live double disk, and the newest citizen cope album.
Everything at 70 percent off so my total price was 25 bucks. They said the store will be closing their doors for good next Sunday.

well having visited both the tysons corner and rockville location it's not hard to see why they are going under...
both stores still have a huge stock of import singles, many of the here today gone tomorrow type acts. if i had the patience i'd go through them...
they had three copies at both stores of a recent limited edition and expensive ($40) singles collection by the Bluetones, as welk as the regular version of it. a UK band which released one CD here in 1996 and aren't exacting burning up the charts in UK. tis not one of the records many people would casually wander into a store and buy. same goes for the Roddy Frame, Do Me Bad Things, and the numerous expensive trance/house/etc/etc comps on offer.
seems to me inventory control was a bit of a problem...
needless to say Tysons Corner had a lot of what Rockville has left and still lots of titles i'll wait until the big discount to buy... they did have a nice selection of RPM records comps at TC. i'll be the first to admit much of the stuff i've gotten will still be there at the higher discounts and should have taken the risk and hold off on getting them.
-
The Fairfax store has 13 copies of Robbie Fulks' most recent Yep Roc album Georgia Hard. While it is a great album, I don't see how some buyer could have thunk they would have sold that many.
-
any ideas on when cds are going to be 70+% off?

The stock you are now seeing in the above stores is not representative of what was ordered originally. In the case of the Tysons store (and Rockville), we received HUGE shipments from Tower and Bayside's warehouse in CA. After all that, we began getting shipments of ENTIRE STORES that were closing earlier than we are.
So, add all the crap from those stores to the crap in ours....and you get a lot of crap.
All this has nothing do do with why Tower is going out of business, it's a result of going out of business.
-
But you are aware that the stores were filled with overpriced crap even when they were in business, right?
And who picks the shitty music that has been playing over the PA systems during the going out of business sales?

Yes, I'm aware of that.
Tower didn't set the wholesale prices, and couldn't afford to sell product below or close to those prices. Talk to the distribution and labels about pricing.
One man's trash is another man's treasure. I bet everything you've scavenged over the past few months would be deemed crap by plenty of others.
As for the music playing in the stores, it depends on who's working and their mood at the time.
-
I was in both the Fairfax & Tysons Towers today. I was very disappointed to find the toy sections lacking. The book sections were picked thru, as well. So as not to waste the entire trip I stocked up on more porn.

They will probably be the lumps of coal in a lot of peoples Christmas stockings.
From my experience, more often than not, any given music store plays nothing but crap. Pure crap. (IMHO) Maybe it's just the times I've walked in to various stores but it always sounds like one of two basic choices.
1. Something the manager makes them play to push a small selection of product.
2. Really crappy Alternative ( as if it really suits the word) HFS kind of fair I'm in the store trying to find something better to play in the first place.

One time I went into a Borders trying to find a book. The music that was playing was so nauseating that I had to leave. So I went to the nearby Barnes. They were playing the same shit! I asked someone working there about it and she said it was the (then) new Josh Groban. She didn't like it either (and she was within his demo) but the music was out of her control. Must be hell to work there.

I was in Wegman's last week. They were playing Steely Dan. It was groovy, man.

Dick: Go for it.

What percentage off are they today?
Anybody have a guess as to the final percentages next week when they all close?
-
pop/rock was 70% off today in Alexandria. There is literally almost nothing left. I picked up:
Volebeats
Stina Nordenstam ($2!)
Steve Wynn
Long Winters
Solex
They have like 80 copies of the last Futureheads album...
-
Also, all locations have plenty of copies of the recent TV-musician crossovers (John Corbett, Peter Gallagher, Peter Gammons (!)) Great gag stocking stuffers!
-
ok the only thing i missed about the forum taking a spa day was if there were any updates on discounts...
so spill
-
Yesterday at Penn. Ave. cds were 60% off; dvds 50%. Plus a bunch of stuff in the dollar bins.
I managed to get two dvds:
Hawkwind: Love in Space
Cut Shorts: Short Films of David Markey
I also got a Quasi cd for $3 and a Joe "King" Carrasco for a buck.
Very few toys left (50% off). But I did end up buying "The Land of Misfit Toys" set.
-
Just returned from Foggy Bottom/Penn Tower and rock cds are at 70% off now. The place was packed, but I was pretty surprised at how much was still there. I saw several of the Cure double-disc reissues, which I would've picked up but I have the original albums and am happy with them.
So picked up
Radio 4 - Enemies Like This
The Horror The Horror
Pet Shop Boys - Fundamental
New York Dolls - One Day It Will Please Us...
Grandaddy - Fambly Cat
Turbonegro - Scandinavian Leather
Super Furries - Love Kraft
The Rakes
The 22-20s
I could've got about five more, but I've bought so many discs in the last month that I'm getting some heat at home, no matter how cheap they are.
The staff are getting real punchy. Dudes are flying through crowded aisles pushing empty CD racks, knocking people around. My check-out guy couldn't have been a bigger cock. "Who are all these bands supposed to be?" he dicked.
-
They all seem to be up to 70%.
I wonder if it will go to 80% or more before the end?
-
so i have to say, i feel like there is more left at Tower than people are finding.
my haul today - grand total of $120 spent. the list:
Margot & The Nuclear So and So's - The Dust of Retreat
The Kooks - Inside In Inside Out
Ulrich Schnauss - Far Away Trains Passing By
The Sounds - Dying to Say This To You
Field Music - s/t (Import)
Field Music - Write Your Own History (Import)
Electric Eel Shock - Go USA!
The Doors - Live in Philadelphia '70
Matmos - The Rose Has Teeth In The Mouth of a Beast
Mojave Three - Puzzles Like You
The Delgados - The Complete BBC Peel Sessions
Mates of State - Our Constant Concern
Smoosh - Free to Stay
Nethers - In Fields We Will Lie
Antony and the Johnsons - I Am A Bird Now
Aloha - Some Echoes
Sophie & Ives - Untie Me
Longwave - The Strangest Things
No Doubt - Rock Steady
Lamb of God - Killadelphia
Beck - Guerolito
Two Gallants - What the Toll Tells
Clearlake - Cedars
V/A - Exit Music: Songs With Radio Heads
I still plan on going back to buy the new Phoenix, I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness, The Knife, some DFA remix comps, and some miscellaneous other stuff. If you're willing to look, there is plenty to be found.
-
I spent nearly $75 @ Rockville today:
Masonna - Frequency L.S.D.
John Zorn - Moonchild
Tim Hecker - Mirages
The Red Krayola - Introduction
Oingo Boingo - Skeletons In The Closet: Best Of
Romeo Void - Benefactor/Never Say Never
OMD - Organisation
Ministry - Psalm 69
Boris - Pink
Noxagt- s/t
Can - s/t
Henry Cow - Western Culture
Cardinal -s/t (reissue w/ bonus tracks)
Four Tet - Everything Ecstatic (DVD/CD)
Magazine - Real Life/Secondhand Daylight (two-fer)
One thing I found funny was that I had read just a couple of days ago that the Cardinal disc had been reissued. Digging through the racks I came across Cardinal but was disappointed that it was the old one. Finding the reissue version a few cds later was a real surprise.
-
I agree there is plenty to choose from, it's just with a couple early expensive import buying sprees, i'm trying to hold off for a bigger discount before spend lots of time going through the racks. if i don't get whatever, my typical zen approach to such things.
also, watch out for those 5 discs for $4 dollars bins... there were a couple "misfiled" discs in there that didn't come up with the special pricing which was annoying.
-
Haha tell me about it. My wife will be so glad when Tower is finally closed. At least the stuff I've bought so far has been stuff she likes.

Tower Alexandria is closing on Sunday. Pretty well cleaned out, but here's some of what's left at 70% off:
Black Heart Procession
Liz Phair's Exile in Guyville
Mew
Long Winters
Jim Noir
Jamie Callum
The Streets
Lots of obscure Drag City stuff
Tindersticks
Slowdive (30 copies of Slouvlaki!)
Pony Up
Rachel Goswell
Huskey Rescue
Sadies double live album
Bob Mould's latest
Danielson
-
Slowdive (30 copies of Slouvlaki!)
Did you notice if it's the recent remastered version or the reissue of the original?
Not worth the gas for me to travel all that way for it but I'd scoop up at least one copy if it's the remastered. Damn. Either way, a must have for anyone who has the slightest interest in anything remotely Shoegaze. Pure beauty.
The Rachel Goswell is good too if you like the female British modern Folk sound. Personally, I love the album but realize it's not for all. Already have my copy though.
-
Thanks for the update. I see a couple of things there I'm interested in.
I'm going to be a dork and use my vacation day tomorrow and hit all of the suburban locations.

I forgot, they also have a copy of Chad VanGaalen's first album, which is exellent.

If anyone happens to see a white guy wearing jeans, Campers, and a solid earth-tone shirt, in a local Tower Records tomorrow, be sure to say "hi" to Rhett.

fairfax tower has a good selection of imports left...that is if you like girls aloud or sugababes.

a dc store clerk told me 12/20 was the last day. it also looks like they took away some of their stock. when the reggae went from upstairs to downstairs there was nothing left. i find it hard to believe they sold that much in a couple of days. they are probably saving it for the internet.

was today the last day for the alexandria store?
-
yup, the originally told me on the phone that they's be closing at 9, but I was there at 6 and they said only 30 minutes more.
-
Hey Rhett, if you don't like that Statistics CD, I'll give you a $1 for it.
-

Fairfax store also fairly well picked over (imo).
Lots of Robbie Fulks, Taylor Hawkins (how is this album?), Hotel Lights, Twilight Singers, Tim Easton, Josh Rouse (I get all the "Josh" singers mixed up - how is this album?)
I was hoping for Calexico, Damien Rice...I did find an import mix/benefit cd that looks cool.
When is Tyson's last day? Worth looking into?
I suppose I haven't shopped at Tower over the years. I was surprised at the original prices as I thought most cds were priced at $16.99.
Regarding the music playing in the store - I don't care what you play - but gah, so loud??
I guess it fits the out of biz mode...
-
I was at Rockville on Friday. They had a "Last 8 Days" sign up. I guess that means their last day is 12/22.
-
As far as I've heard, Tysons, Fairfax, and Rockville are all closing Friday.
Based on my visit to each of those this past Friday, only one has anything worth driving back for.
I wonder if they will follow the same markdowns that the Alexandria store did on the last day? They went from 90% off to $1 for anything to 50 cents to 25 cents. I felt like a kid in a candy store.

Rhett: please answer Joe's question, above :)
El Tee: haven't listened to the taylor hawkins album yet, i've read that it's a respectable attempt at 70's-influenced guitar rawk.

Dunno. Steny's post backs-up the 12/22 date though. Use at your own risk.

Rockville had $1 bins, full of things they have multiple copies of. Check the $1 bins first. The staff doesn't always know what's $1 and what isn't, so you may need to point out that you got something from the $1 bin.
At this point, you could probably tell them anything and they'll believe it, or they just don't care. Friday someone entered $0.00 for one of my cds and said "Merry Christmas".
hmmmm - I hope I didn't just get them fired. Oh, wait...
-
I was at Rockville and saw the same 8 days sign Chutney saw. That's what I'm going by.
Fairfax had 12/22 posted.
I called Vienna and they told me Friday. I called Foggy Bottom, and they told me Wed.
Beware, it's possible that any of them may close early on their last day, as the Alexandria store did yesterday.

The sign at Tysons says the last day is Thursday and that we will be closing around 5pm (maybe earlier).

Fairfax closes Friday. Again, at 5pm or earlier.

I went to Foggy Bottom last night. If you can spend the time digging there are still some deals to be had. My purchases, which came to about 15 bucks:
DVDs:
Low in Europe
The Mae Shi
CDs:
The Mae Shi
Kitestringing (a benefit/comp cd--tracks from Jenny Toomey, Big in Japan, Noam Chomsky, the Aislers Set...)
Osaka Popstar--several copies of this left, if anyone is interested.

Which store you are returning to that has the best remaining stock. Although, I now think it's a different location.
-
Just got back from the Rockville store and it's very well picked over at this point.... Especially, by the person pushing around the red cart full of CDs, who I just managed to grab a couple Margot & Nuclear before they grabbed the remaining stock. Wonder which store he was buying for :)
There is some old ball stuff i'd go back for on friday to see if they still there.
My haul mainly Psapp, Danko Jones, Brendan Butler, Brookville, The 88, Ane Brun and La Rocca.
Clearily some with good taste or buying to sell on eBay picked up the Bluetones, Roddy Frame and Ian Dury. Most of the Northern Soul comps appeared to be gone oh well.
-
I went to Rockville tonight too. The were selling everything for $0.50. 9 cds for under $5 - Not bad.

I got the same fittycent deal Monday night on five discs. I said something about there being rumours about what the deals really were. The cashier asked me from where and I simply repied the internet. As it happened the first disc she tried to scan was missing its barcode. She used a dummy barcode and entered 50 cents, then she overrided the other discs at 50 cents each (including that Arthur Russell $26 import  ).
Going back tonight!

I managed to pull in a decent hall last night at the GW store. 80% off, got Vitalic (import), The Legends, Small Sins, Heavenly States, Lansing-Dreiden, Bikini Atoll and, the best of all, Stevie B's Greatest hits. Which, lucky for all of you, there were still a fair amount of copies left. I left stuff there though: Eliot Lipp, the new Sleepy Jackson, Codec and Flexor among others. I would love one of their large wall units for my CD collection, but $125 is too much. Anyone think they'll drop those?
-
I left Mudvayne, Hatebreed, and Creed for you at the Tyson's Corner store :p

Definitely. Talk to the manager.

Correction: Final day at Vienna store is Thursday.

What's their discount now? I called yesterday and it was 80%.

I was at the GW store last night too. I think this is the last trip I'll make. I picked up discs by Adam Green, the Ark, deadboy & elephantmen, Test Icicles, The Paddingtons, The Glitterati, and Nine Black Alps.
For those who have bought a crapload of discs in the last couple weeks, it'll be interesting to hear which ones ended up being good and which ones didn't. I bought more than a dozen discs from bands I hadn't heard of, but figured a couple bucks was worth hearing something new and great.
-
well the B's must have gotten one of the late night specials I've heard tales of because Rockville is still stuck at 80%..

I guess I got lucky. All the signs said 80%, but the cashier manually entered 50 cents for everything. I didn't know they were going to do that until I was at the register. But even at 50 cents, there wasn't much more I would have picked up.
-
gw was down to anything for 50 cents at 3pm on 12/20. 25 cents for the stuff up front. not much to choose from.

It's a good thing
A. Record Stores don't go out of business very often
B. My parents are helping me to be a new winter coat from Christmas
Buying closeout records is an addiction and Tower has been feeding it to the nth degree of late. I wont relay the gore details of my several bags of purchases the past couple weeks but here is what made me happy yesterday.
Le Beat Bespoke a collection of 60s mod bands
Do The Pop! A two disc collection of Australian Garage w/ The Saints, Radio Birdman, Hoodoo Gurus, etc. The booklet includes a picture of Guru's Guitarist wanted flyer which lists all the bands they were influenced by.
A complete set of Do Me Bad Things singles for a buck.
On a whim I got Oi Va Voi w/ KT Tunstall which sounds pretty cool.
Got one of the mystery 50 cent CDs, originally $29 it was something I was waffling over so was good it got bought.
And yes the purchase that made me the most giddy was Bros greatest hits. Wii! Overproduced pop tunes from the late 80s. When Well I Be Famous indeed!
-
Listening to my Do Me Bad Things singles today made me realize how bummed I was they broke up. Why Scissor Sisters got popular verses these guys is beyond me. DMBT makes them look like a bunch of big girls blouses...
-
Anybody been to Vienna for Fairfax in the last day or two and have a merchandise report? Wondering if there is going to be anything left to take a shot on when things are a dollar or less.
There certainly was at Alexandria. Different story I thought at Foggy Bottom. Aside from three or four good albums I already had, I couldn't find anything there to try out even for 50 cents.
I've gotten tons of good shit, but I'll wait until I've gone through it all to summarize.
-
I hit Tower Tysons last night and made out like a nostalgic bandit. It was still 80% except for singles which were 25 cents. They still had plenty of:
Serena-Maneesh
Sound Team
Walkmen
Sleepy Jackson
Twilight Singers
Rhett Miller
Big Star tribute
Luna DVD
Islands (1 copy)
Boris (1 copy)
and lots of single copies of assorted indie and other interesting stuff. Anyone in the area this afternoon will likely be able to buy these for 25 or 50 cents apiece as they will close at "5 or maybe earlier".

Great find.

Has anyone observed at what times the prices drop from 90% to $1 to 50 cents to 25 cents? Wondering if it's better to go for quality (earlier) or quantity (later). Yes, I am becoming even more of a dork.
-
following steny into deeper dorkdom... any word on if there will be a warehouse sale following the closing? surely they'll need to unload all those Do Me Bad Things records laying around. unless people want to scoop them up for me :)
-
Just as I was leaving Rockville last night they were unboxing leftovers from stores that had already closed. They close at 5pm on Friday.
I didn't get the same 50cent deal last night as I did Monday, probably because the manager was nearby  . But every CD was $2 or less. Best find: Massacre "Killing Time" (Fred Frith and Bill Laswell early 80s collab).
They don't have a local warehouse so whatever is left locally will probably be shipped west. I think they're closing the easternmost stores first.
-
So they have new inventory??

I'm going to be at the Fairfax store today and might pop up to the Tysons store also......report to follow....
-
i am almost certain everything is 50 cents on the last day or at some point into the last day. it might get cheaper if you stay until the end. but at that point there is nothing worth buying.

No chance.

Just back from Fairfax store.....still 80%.....highly picked over of course.....I'm going back early tommorrow to see about the 50 cent pricing.....if so,there are quite a few import compilations and such that would be nice to grab.....oh,and about 10 copies remain of Twilight Singers new one and a "best of" Winger that doesn't seem to be moving,either....

wait 'til the s... is 50 cents. then there will not selection. and when you factor in time and gas, is it really worth it? record convergence has a great selection for 25% of tower's inflated prices.

I haven't been keeping up with this at all, I didn't even know they were getting ready to close up for good. But my mother and I happened to make a trip down to Rockville yesterday to do some Christmas shopping, and we happened into the shopping center where Tower is. Of course, we had to pop in and see what was left. The last time I was in a Tower was over in Philly, back when CDs were 30% off, and like I said, I had no idea things were getting down to the wire. They've got "Last 2 Days" signs up, and everything is 90% off (supposedly).
You're all right about the employees not really caring anymore, and everything being completely disorganized and out of control at this point. Good lord was it ever worth it. I'm not sure what may be left today, but Rockville still had some decent stuff left yesterday, let me tell you.
I paid $19.74 for all of this.

The guy only rang up four items on my receit. I can't really make heads or tails of what exactly he did, but he certainly winged it somehow. My mother checked out before me, with 26 albums, and he told her that he was feeling lazy and how did $10 for the lot sound? She had some of the same ones as me (like Taylor Hawkins and Something for Rockets), along with a few others on my recommendation that I already own (Two Gallants, Michael Leviton, Willy Mason, Ashley Matte). She also just starting grabbing up albums that looked remotely interesting. And then there were the two Raising the Fawn albums she managed to find before I could get to them. :( 26 albums for ten bucks. Insane.

They did close years ago. The originial Falls Church store was my first music buying mecca back in the mid 80's. The owner, a great guy and fantastic guitar player, now owns a music school in Falls Church city if anyone want to learn an instrument!

What time does Fairfax close? I drove by Tyson's yesterday, hoping they would have one last "open until midnight" closing hour, but no such luck.
Reod Dai-very cool about your mom's bargain!

the fairfax store is now closed. i was about to check out around 4pm and the guy gets on the overhead and tells everyone that all cds and dvds were 50 cents...found a few good cds (murder by death, twilight singers, andrew wk)
-
Is the Record Convegence guy named Ted? I hadn't thought about that place or guy in years, and I thought about Ted this week when I heard a Bevis Frond song. He was a great guy, and I spent many hours in high school shopping at that place. Good memory of the time when a group of friends would actually leave the house to look for good music. Downloading is convenient for the obvious reasons, but I miss afternoons discovering new music at the record store. Wow. Official sounding old...
-
Well you should have hung around with the rest of us, when it went to 25 cents at 4:25. I got 36 cd's and 1 single for $9.48.

while at the rockville store the discount went from 95% per CD to 10 CDs for $5 to 15 CDs for $5. I walked out with 45 albums and 15 singles, total 20 bucks. Or rather I bought one The Features and got 14 free :) Granted I ended up with a couple copies of several CDs to trade on lala. Anyone want to buy a Departure CD for a buck?
I was impressed at how well picked over the store was. Several titles I thought might still be around at the bitter were gone like The Sails, Malcolm Middleton, even the Girls Aloud CDs were gone. You had to search through all the bins to find stuff, which is why I found The Heavy Blinkers and Peter Walker.

My 25 cent buys at Fairfax:

Keren Ann
Cordero (2)
Mark Mallman
Radar Bros.

Ladyfuzz
Archie Bronson Quartet

Twilight Singers
Chatham County Line
Real Tuesday Weld

Some funny little stories from the Fairfax closing:
1. It's 3 PM, the store closes for good at 5 pm, everything is 50 cents. I hear someone ask a worker, "Where would I find Whitney Houston?" The worker replies, "Everything is out of order, but I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have any Whitney Houston at this point."
2. I see two fiftysomething women pushng around baskets with their feet, because they are too full to be carried by hand. One says to the other, in a deep Southern drawl, "So if it's punk and emo, will it say it on the label?"
3. Earlier this year, we had the misfortune of seeing some guy called Gran Bel Fisher open a show at the Birchmere. I can't begin to describe how bad this guy was...it was painful. Allmusic lists James Blunt and Daniel Powter as simliar artists, and says this: :The songwriters have a knack for creating mini-suites that seem ready-made for post-teen females looking for a sensitive guy to hold their hands and guide the way. There's nothing wrong with that, and Fisher seems more than willing to comply with an impressive ?? if not terribly unique ?? set of material. With the correct marketing, his handsome face is ready to adorn sorority bedroom walls."
Anyway, a 40something woman approaches me and asks "What kind of music do you like?" So I'm thinking she sees my hipster doofus glasses and my full basket of cd's and has decided to ask someone who looks like a music geek for some recommendations..."Oh, I like a variety of music," I reply. She responds, handing me a cd (guess which one), Try this, it's dynamite." Oh, I've seen him play before, and it was horrible" I respond, thus quickly ending the conversation.
4. The prices have gone from 95% to 50 cents, I know if I wait long enough, they'll go to 25 cents. But which will win out? My thriftiness, or my weak bladder. Just as I'm about to pee my pants , I spot board member Dr. Anton Phibes, and he is kind enough to hold my basket while I go next door and pee. Thanks again Dr. Anton.

Look forward to seeing this.

Yeah,
Younger (and by that I mean anyone younger than 25) people that I talk talk to have no concept of what it was like to get lost for hours in a Tower Records... I miss attempting to get people to hear whatever band I was in at any given time by inundating the bulletin board area with CDs. I miss just having a "cool" bulletin board to leave CDs at... and I miss getting Arthur mags and listening to whatever was on the CD...
It's a crying shame that the Rockville store is, I think, some mattress outlet...
-
At least most people won't be losing sleep over it.

Re-read this thread before work this morning. Great stuff.
While I did get some good stuff at a great price I remember being a little disappointed with my acquisitions from the closeouts. I had hoped to come away with a lot more than I actually did. I was, however, able to flip some of the out-of-print recordings I bought so the ones I kept cost me next to nothing.
-
I'm glad your understanding was expanded, but the point of my post was to make a funny. People won't be losing sleep because the building is now a mattress store. Get it?

I'm 24 and I used to spend no less than 2 hours in Tower every time I went.

when i was a kid, we made coffee in a pot, because that is what people did, and we drank it out of cup made of pottery.

Tower never did much for me. But I did spend hours and hours at Vinyl Ink, Yesterday & Today, and the original Record Convergence in Falls Church...
And we used to boil water in my house for coffee when i was a kid, and pour it directly over the grinds. Hhmmmmm

I spent the last day the Fairfax store was open picking over their carcass with James Ford.......those 25 cent cd's were cool.....

Is there any single CD on Amazon that's 20$?

Would be cool to watch the film locally, or see it a part of a film festival. Perhaps at the club with an anniversary re-showing of the 930 doc. ;) (yeah, that would be cool to have 930 as a stop on a film festival or show music minded films; perhaps a matinee)http://

Also, five-vinyl albums hand picked by Tower Records Founder Russ Solomon that will include a personalized note explaining the record selections and their importance to him. Some of this vinyl is out of print or soon will be."
"If you?ve already donated, but would like to grab the records as well, please just select the record bundle and add your original pledge amount to it, send us a quick note and we?ll put you down for both."
