OMG.... rock and roll might loose it's choir boy image after this!

Hmmmm.....
Maybe a double bill later in the year with The Who and The Vienna Choir Boys. (http://www.930.com/ubb/eek.gif)

I just watched Quadrophenia and was inspired to wear one of my Who shirts, I guess I still will, whatever. My dad says that Pete thinks he might have been molested when he was 5 or 6, he says part of 'Tommy' is about that. I wouldn't disown the Who just yet.

To write anybody's name in the world = child molester is a awful thing unless you're sure the man is guilty. And all indications are the man is not guilty. Imagine what any of us would feel like if we were accused of that and yet we knew we were Not guilty. The poor guy if he is innocent is being done the worst injustice you can imagine!!

Sure...
He didnt molest any children, but he did admit to looking at kiddie porn. There is no excuse for that. I mean if you suck cock then you are gay, if you kill someone you are a murdurer. You cant really use an excuse of just wanting to see what its like. Duh!
-
im sure if we all dig a little deeper we can link phil collins to this kiddie porn.

markie meant if you suck his cock you are gay because he pays young men to suck his meat stick.

I agree with your line of reasoning, to a degree, about creating demand for child porn...would it have been less incriminating if he got the images for free?
[This message has been edited by Celeste (edited 01-14-2003).]
-
This could open an interesting debate about images vs. reality. Would it be wrong to create or posess paintings depicting "child pornography", in which no children were actually involved?

[This message has been edited by Celeste (edited 01-14-2003).]

Psychoanalyzing total strangers based on their songs is about as valid as doing it on the basis of what they type on a goofy message board. Peter Gabriel wrote the intensely creepy "Intruder," but I doubt he gets a chubby from contemplating home invasion, and Mick Jagger isn't the Midnight Rambler. As for Townshend, I adhere strictly to "innocent until proven guilty" for nobodies and somebodies alike, regardless of what they're accused of.
Have you noticed that some TV/radio reports are (unintentionally) making it sound almost as if he's suspected of being involved in a child porn or pedophilia ring or distribution network rather than Net viewing? At least they do initially; then eventually they get to the website information, but it creates a misleading impression for drive-by listeners.
While it's fine to bust the alleged consumers of the product, I'm not sure it's the best use of limited law enforcement resources--just as jailing illegal drug users doesn't have much effect on the supply side. It probably just encourages serious pedophiles to get even more crafty. The vast majority of these folks ain't using their own credit cards openly on public sites, that's for sure. Using Web activity as a starting point for tracking the big gun distributors and active pedophiles makes sense, but arresting (even in the more flexible Brit manner) someone on the basis of one credit card hit seems a bit like spitting on a forest fire.
It is always after they get caught that they say it is for research.
Another thing that pisses me off is those reporters that try to smuggle fake bombs into airports to show how bad security is or how easy it is to buy designer drugs. Once it is shown on tv that they did it, should they be arrested? - I certainly would like to see that happen!

Whether it was actually for research or not is for the courts to resolve.
Should he just announce to the world beforehand that he is doing kiddie porn research? Its ironic that the guy who writes "hope I die before I get old," gets old and has this kind of fall from grace. I really do feel bad for the guy, whatever his motivation. Once upon a time he focused his creative energy in a way that exorcised his demons (assumably) and made him a hero. It seems his energies (whatever's left) are now sadly misguided. I don't understand the thought process of abhoring the subject matter, but paying money to support it. I imagine he could have completed his "research" using free content. Its sad to see someone win on so many levels, but ultimately look like a loser. Is he a child molester? I don't think so. Is he a sorry old loser? Well, it kind of looks that way.
-
Well now we know what he meant when he wrote "The Kids are Alright".

Blue collar=classic rock where I grew up. I don't even think I heard the word "yuppie" growing up in Upstate NY. Then again, I was probably done growing up before the word ever existed, I'm so old.

Actually, Rhett Miller grew up in Dallas, Texas. His dad is a lawyer, and he went to a private school, so I doubt he had much in common with the blue collar set.
You bring up an interesting point in your second paragraph. What about bands where someone other than the lead singer is the principal songwriter. Take Los Lobos for example. The percussionist is the guy who writes most of the lyrics, not the two guys who sing the songs. If the two singers went dolo and did Los Lobos songs, would they have more credibility than Los Lobos with different singers?

quote:
Originally posted by G.Love:
Hey what a coincident, Rhett grew up in Upstate NY, maybe you know him!
What if the a couple of band members go off and continue to do songs from the original band but no new stuff, are they a cover band? for example Rossington-Collins band doing all the Lynryd Skynyrd tunes, or Roger Waters after Floyd, or David Weave Roth? R. Kelly Arrested on Fla. Porn Charges
January 22, 2003

MIAMI - R. Kelly, already facing child pornography charges in Illinois, was arrested Wednesday in Florida on additional child pornography charges after investigators said they found 12 photographs of a nude girl at the singer's home.

Kelly, whose first name is Robert, was arrested without incident at a Miami-Dade County hotel. He was being held at the county jail. Bond was set at $12,000.

The Grammy award-winning artist has been out on bond and awaiting trial on 21 counts of child pornography in Chicago. Those charges stem from a videotape authorities say shows him having sex with a 13-year-old girl. Kelly, 36, has denied that charge.

Col. Grady Judd of the Polk County Sheriff's Office told WSVN-TV that three photos show Kelly having sex with a female under 18. In the other nine photos, the female is nude. He said the photos were found last June during a search of a home Kelly rented in Davenport after he was arrested there on the Illinois warrant. Davenport, in Polk County, is about 35 miles southwest of Orlando.

The R&B singer is known for hits ranging from the Grammy-winning, gospel-like "I Believe I Can Fly" to sexually charged material such as "Bump 'n' Grind," "Feelin' On Yo Booty" and "Your Body's Callin'."

The Illinois investigation began after the Chicago Sun-Times reported last February that it had received the tape anonymously and passed it along to Chicago police.

Kelly also has been the focus of at least four lawsuits, three of which accuse him of having sex with underage girls. He has acknowledged settling two of the lawsuits regarding underage sex, but his lawyers have said they will fight the third.

Kelly's new album, "Chocolate Factory," is scheduled to be released in February. He was nominated for a Grammy earlier this month for the song "The World's Greatest," from the "Ali" soundtrack.

Slightly late response, but I also saw Purple Reign in Vegas last year and fully agree that they do Prince better than Prince. In fact, we saw them play three nights in a row and then partied with them after the 3rd show. I had a little smoochy-smoochy with the sassy dancer too, which was way beyond any of my expectations because she was so very very fine. It definitely made the list of the top 5 nights of my life.
And the best part? I leave tomorrow for a weekend in Vegas. (rubs hands feverishly) No expectations with the lovely lady, but I can't wait to see "Prince" rock out.
Did you happen to notice that his chest hair was made up of implants? I was fascinated by that guy.
